I was a Liberal Leftie when I first started watching you @drjordanbpeterson, I was watching one of your lectures and you said "Being conservative is something that happens to you when you get older", I thought no way will I ever be conservative, they're racist bigots. Then you helped me to wake up. Now I wouldn't say I'm Conservative or Liberal, but I value the old traditions and know they've been passed down for generations for a reason, to protect us from ourselves.

Your journey mirrors mine quite a bit. I was very liberal, even far far left at certain points in my life. Now that I understand what communism is really about, I see that I was not a morally superior person back then nor did I have any special knowledge. There is value in tradition, and who are we to question that? Especially if we don't have anything better to replace it with. Glad to see that you're awake: glad to be awake with you. 👍❤

Conservatives want to conserve tradition aka the past
You look back just a tiny century ago and we see inequality for women and people of colour. "Tradition" only becomes uglier the further back you go, I mean, more power to you for playing the language game but put into practice nobody with a decent heart or of good nature actually wants those things to come back and be more prominent, so (rhetorical question) what even do we want to conserve if we're good natured peopl- oh.. right.

Often when I wish to explain a concept to someone, I find it useful to refer them to how it was expertly expressed by a source that aided me in my development on the subject, but this is much harder to do when the message is diluted and spread throughout snippets and scattered phrases across multitudes of casual discussions on diverse related topics.

@@hippopond1 there is a study that saw conservatives tend to be more fearful than liberals. This could just mean that sticking or over relying on values and rules instead of questioning them is more conservative over being liberal. Like if you are truly god fearing, morality that religion instills aligns more with conservatives.

@@annetteabma Dr Peterson is very articulate and perhaps long winded but considering the attacks he had to endure his long and eloquent lectures require that he speak in a very specific thoughtful manner. Here are other things to consider. The best books can be read multiple times and can often bring a greater depth of understanding of the content by doing so regardless of your academic background. Whether it's parents rules for children or teachers lectures to students ( Isn't that how students achieve success on tests?) or employers policy's to employees many individuals benefit form hearing things more than once perhaps because they are more of a visual learner. I am a electrician/troubleshooter and my customers and I benefit by going over things more than once while trying to identify a problem. I am glad aircraft engineers, publishers, and detectives go over things more than once as well before drawing conclusions thinking a once over is good enough.

      leftism:
Otherwise known as “progressivism” and even more inaccurately as “liberalism”, leftism is a term originating from the French Revolution of 1789, in reference to the political faction that opposed the French (so-called) king. However, the term is currently used in common discourse to describe those criminals who actively support (or at least tacitly condone) a host of OBJECTIVELY-WICKED ideologies and practices that contravenes dharma, such as non-monarchical governances and corrupt economic systems (particularly socialism, communism, fascism, and liberal democracies), egalitarianism, feminism, perverse sexuality (especially homosexuality, bestiality, and transvestism), multiculturalism, and the illegitimate abortion of innocent, defenceless unborn children. Cf. “dharma”.
In the past decade or two, the mass media, especially the motion picture industry and television production companies, has been aggressively promoting all the above CRIMINAL ideologies and practices, helping to expedite the destruction of human society. Recently, large corporations have jumped on the leftist bandwagon (so to speak), in order to profit.
As explicated in Chapter 11 of “A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity”, the state of being of any particular human (or any other animal for that matter) is due entirely to his or her genetic sequencing and his or her conditioning. Therefore, the explosion of the leftist/liberal mentality in recent decades, particularly in Western countries, has been caused by poor breeding strategies overtaking the more conservative tradition of mate-selection of previous centuries (and indeed, millennia). In other words, due to the fact that criminal behaviour (especially the deviant sexual acts mentioned above) has become increasingly more tolerated, condoned, and even GLORIFIED in most countries, there has been a proliferation of corrupt genetic codes within the wider human population.
Unsurprisingly, the majority of leftists find it difficult to accept the fact that their criminal mentality is largely inherited (and of course, they are unwilling to acknowledge the blatantly-obvious fact that their ideologies and practices are intrinsically sinful, wicked, evil and immoral in the first place). It seems the consensus amongst leftist "intellectuals" is that every human mental trait is due entirely to one's environmental conditioning, rather than as a consequence of BOTH one's genetic sequence and one’s conditioning - a fundamentally-flawed assertion that cannot be scientifically-supported.
This term was very reluctantly used in the chapter on feminism. I say “reluctantly” because it is unlikely that the term will perdure for many decades longer. This is simple logic, since, as clearly demonstrated in certain chapters in “F.I.S.H”, human civilization cannot survive with such leftist practices and ideologies in place. If you happen to be reading this Holy Scripture a century or more after its conception, you will probably be residing in a nation (as opposed to a country) ruled by a monarch, following the implosion of post-modern, decadent societies. So, either the term “leftism” will eventually become redundant and obsolete, or else, human civilization will devolve into a decadent, diseased state of existence similar to that of the prehistoric era, when the peoples of the world resided in caves or shacks, subsisting on whatever food can be sourced from the surrounding bushland. I trust that you who are reading these wise words will endeavour to influence your social circles to adhere to right-leaning ideologies, such as monarchical governance, an entirely free-market economy, sexual chastity, and all other virtuous principles.
Fear not, for GOD is with you!
P.S. As a general rule, it seems (at least anecdotally) that the farther left-leaning is a person, the more physically (and of course, psychologically) UGLY is that person. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to prevent leftists from propagating their mutant genes. 🤡

His philosophy provides a unique viewpoint, however his political leanings are no more coherent than the boogeymen he’s created. Just the title has me so excited to listen carefully to Jordan. Shame I wasn’t able to see him in Manchester as my daughter was sick…Dr Peterson, you answered some fundamental questions on morality and meaning for me during my mid 20’s having been lost to drugs and alcohol since age 13 after growing up in an abusive home. I was drawn to anarchism, radical left dogma as it accurately reflected my life and I was under the delusion that supporting my peers would create a large enough problem that those in power would be forced to rectify it…anyway the painful and truly traumatic life I had lived up to that point changed upon my discovery of the good Dr all those years ago. He effectively plunged his hands into the filth and dragged me from my nihilistic mess onto a road. And told me which way value, meaning and personal responsibility was. I trusted him and began my journey and my god, where I may have beeen had I not found his words I shudder to think. And now this manifesto should be taken as dead serious. This is the first person to stick out their neck to be some kind of leader or organiser or the centre right. And what a man to have at the helm!

    Mr. Peterson
At age 18 I thought I had the world, a wife to soon be, new home, new car, great job at age 19 but I wasn't happy. We were too young and she left me for another man a week from when I was planning to ask her to marry me. She had been unfaithful and convinced me I was the reason she was leaving. We were highschool sweethearts and she was the first female I was faithful to and took seriously. I couldn't make sense of her leaving and long story short I just wanted to die and got into some really bad stuff. I did end up choosing recovery after a flawed life taking attempt I came across a few of your seminars. You were the first man I ever heard talk about how important it is for a man to love themself. You helped me find myself. I actually ended up finally getting properly diagnosed with ADHD at age 28. I remember how good it felt to finally be able to understand myself and my mind better. I had to restart my life and it was so hard to watch younger friends get married and have children. I understand I'm blessed to just be alive. I just wanted to tell you thank you for being a voice that helped guide me out of the hell I was living in. You're an honest man just trying to make the world a bit brighter and helping the younger generations think. I always listen to your interviews. I hope you never change. Its sick to see how some people try to ruin your name for being that voice for men.
    God Bless you Sir

Do you ever think that it's strange how many of the current "conservative" voices that we hear, are in fact, like yourself, previously born and bred Liberals or "left-wing" people, who have only upon reflection come to the realisation of tradition and conservatism?
Do you ever wonder why we seem to rarely hear from voice who were born and bred and all along from a young age chose conservativism, who never had a particularly "liberal phase" as a teenager or young adult, who never blindly accepted anything about our liberalised modern world, from enlightenment principles, to modern authoritarianism in teachers and trust in science and it's supposed experts?
I'm quite sure there are great merits in making our own mistakes and learning from them, I'm sure it's inevitable, but I'm also quite sure that there are those of us who have learnt from other people who came before them, and not made the same mistakes. Someone like Roger Scruton perhaps.

But if you need clarification, the conservatives are a scattered bunch, they haven't been unified in decades not in any real way. So a Manifesto seems like it would be needed and who better to do it than Dr Jordan peterson? Does that clear things up? *Edit: Excuse any voiceover text typos, grammatical errors or misspellings in case you were planning on calling me out on that next

Superb summary, Jordan. I might consider adding three conservative values to the list at the risk of making it a bit longer. The three: gratitude, duty and obligation. My rationale? In a world in which responsibility, stewardship, and justice are paramount, one must be grateful to those who came before us for passing them to us, and one has a duty to pass them on to future generations through not just word of mouth but through actions. In a properly moral world, one has no choice in this endeavor; one is obligated to do it if one believes in these values. One has a duty to uphold them and an obligation to inculcate them in future generations. In other words, the list is a package deal; any value that is forgotten diminishes the whole. One does this not through words as much as through actions. Actions are the difference between those who are moral and those who pretend to be moral (in today's lingo, virtue signaling). Oh, and one should not diminish the challenge this places on citizens. These values were developed over time, and time tested, because we are not only human, we are human animals and understand that you can take the humanity out of the animal but you can't take the animal out of humanity. These values were hard won and easily lost again, as we are experiencing today, in the 21st century.

    • @curtismrasmussen
      @curtismrasmussen 2 года назад +1

Values aren't developed, they are discovered and then elucidated, established, and fostered in a living, acting belief structure.
But, one wonders why gratitude, duty, and obligation aren't on the list. I surmise it is because when one is humbly picking up and carrying the heaviest duty comprised in his or her list of moral obligations on a daily basis that the natural outcome is deep gratitude.

If people like myself have some difficulty, imagine the masses that crave the sort of message you are giving, but are unable to understand it at this level. Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values. People display this bias when they select information that supports their views, ignoring contrary information, or when they interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing attitudes. The effect is strongest for desired outcomes, for emotionally charged issues, and for deeply entrenched beliefs. Jordan is encouraging you to be ever more hypocritical and carve out your own sphere of contradictory and vapid logic so that you can deny logic on the basis of "I disagree and I need someone to explain why I'm right" He's discouraging critical thinking and actual internal logic (and climate action?). @@jelleoving98 You're right in saying I didn't come here for intellectual discourse and that I do have a confirmation bias. Of course I do and I should know better than come to a RUclips comment section. But I do try and challenge my bias every chance I can and I try to wring out the hypocritical stagnations in my ideology at the most frequent intervals I can. Im not perfect and i never will be. Im here because this video is more than a dog whistle, it is a dog black and white T.V, I came here because I feel bad. I'm not mad at you jelle or anyone else here in the comment section. I have a lot of sympathy for these people that daily wire and jordan peterson take advantage of. He's telling you "the values that have driven society so far are just" and that it's now a systemic and relatively new moral sensibility of "culture war and basically challenging old ideas" that's rotting our system from the inside. (First off it's a pretty convenient narrative when daily wire is funded by fracking billionaires).
So to get back to these points, claiming that your beliefs are based on "the long lost eternal verities" is both incredibly vague because modern conservative beliefs are in no way disconnected from society's constant and everpresent tendency to hold onto what is comfortable, known and moderate, (this is something we have done for as far back as we see culture) then to call your beliefs 'basic eternal truths' says "we've already done it, we've solved society and anyone challenging it is disturbing the balance". So then society should have been perfect prior to this and challenging the abstract traditional values of an abstract type of conservative is bad for society and petty. Ideas should be challenged so that they can be improved. I hope you can come to see that this man's whole shtick is basically "the natural falacy" which ignores history and science all in favor of solidifying your already held beliefs and to declare them as "the natural and most correct state of things".
He calls his detractors people on a desolate ideology and whatever. And I know this comes from his stagnant fascination with soviet propaganda. His idea of what socialism and communism are fully stagnated in mcarthyisms. Coming from someone who has actually read Marx, I denounce the soviet union, it is something that we can study and understand in its full nuance, not just call it evil and wipe our hands. It, like all other societies had a reason to exist and reflects both good and bad parts of humanity. To generalize it still, I think it was an interesting experiment in centralization and a planned economy and quickly turned out to be a disgusting monopolization of power that did lift a number of feudalistic states into the status of global super power. It was hyper capitalistic (just like The PPC), hence its outpouring of billionaires and oligarchic dynasties. "Communism", the biggest of boogeymen in a lot of "westerner's" minds, very simply defined by Marx is a society of one class, people given according to their need and received upon according to their ability. The vast vast vast majority of people like to feel wanted, they like to feel important because of what they do and who they are, leaving them poor and blaming them for their morals is counterproductive. The homeless, the addict, has value they want to add to society, to their community, maybe just to a few people, but is stigmatized and sees nothing but obstacles in their way to fulfilling their perceived social value. If every person were given an approximate equal starting point, what excuse would we have to blame one another? What use is it to oppress someone, via ideas or systems, when the system benefits all equally and that victim of attempted oppression maintains their autonomy, agency and franchise in society. That is not the system we live in today, despite most governments and actual institutions holding power maintaining conservative or barely liberal dogma. (For instance jordan peterson argues on a platform maintained by billionaires to decry the illigitamacy of the problems of those who have no or very little agency in society, saying they are very strong forces degenerating society but also inhabit the dimmest, most wretched corners of society and their moral degredation is why they cant reach success or find franchise in society. How can they be both the disenfranchised, bitching about not having agency, and be the authoritarian cabal responsible for society as it is?). How is not global capitalism and its endless and exclusive goal of increasing profit the most mundane and barren view of the life and planet we are given? Governments for hundreds of years have been trying to regulate all the potential and real ways that people are exploited through the endless quest for personal enrichment. The "free market" did not stop child labour, it encouraged it because you pay them less and they can do work that people of larger frames cannot, hence further specializing your assembly line. Reducing human suffering and enriching the human experience are goals of the human but not of capital, it is something we are in an ever shifting battle to enforce on the systems that dictate our society and daily lives.
That's what the barren ideology of the left is to me: achieving and enabling compassion, trying to make it embodied in the system of our daily lives, so that system necessarily must scrub for its contradictions to adhere to the idea of creating a more perfect union of humans, and therefore must toss out these hills to die on. Why does the scientific method not apply to society? Because it's called 'the left' or 'the enemy' in whatever form so that we get stuck in these ANCIENT jordan peterson arguments that inevitably lead to logically and historically inconsistent fighting among people that could simply be 'your fellow human'
I guess lastly to exemplify: his fixation on transgenderism and identity politics is the problem with those things. These are simply people trying to live their lives the best they know how (just like everyone in this comment section) if identifying as part of "the west" or having "traditional values" makes you comfortable, then do so. What those things mean are different to everyone and unless I'm an all seeing God, able to determine what is natural and what is degenerate from that point, I have no right to define those terms for you, even though I know they're abstract, and if I'm not able to see why you identify that way, I would still care to see the content of your character, because I know I can, have and will, find much in common with every human being out there.

Incredibly valuable. Thank you Dr Peterson. You are a bright light in a sea of darkness and deterioration.
