Hi David. Great to see you are still on the way down the NW rabbit hole! Picking-up on the comments with reference to Jukka, the drummer. He began struggling with severe insomnia and when the recordings began on the 2015 release 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' (EFMB), he recommended that his close friend Kai Haito, who is the drummer for Wintersun, record the percussive parts on the album instead. Jukka hasn't recovered to this day, and Kai has become a full-time member of the band, touring with NW since 2015. Jukka is still part of the band though, but behind the scenes. Tuomas (apart from all of the influences listed below) is also a massive Disney fan, and many of his melodies and references could easily have come from any number of Disney movies. (He has even recorded a solo album dedicated to the 'Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck' (available to listen to on all good Google music sites!) I have seen a few requests for 'Ghost River'. Certainly from the Wacken show (Vacken), there is no better song that highlights both Marco and Floor together, other than 'Romanticide', which you have already reacted to of course! Waiting further down the line, you have yet to meet the sixth member of the band, Englishman and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley. From this particular concert you can see him play the Uilleann pipes (pronounced Illian) on 'I Want My Tears Back'. He joined the band as a full-time meber at the same time as Floor after the world tour ended in 2013. That's it really - keep healthy and keep warm. Cheers
I don't think any Nightwish fan would dislike a Metallica comparison. Most of us probably grew up listening to Metallica. There's even a Metallica reference in their song/experience The Greatest Show on Earth. After seeing so many Nightwish reacts I forgot if you got to that one yet... If not, you should check it out! It's beyond epic!
Couple things: 1. It's impossible to know where to pause a first listen to a Nightwish song. They just change it up so quickly. So don't feel bad about it - or bad for those of us watching. You can always back it up a few seconds with the left arrow key. There was one point where it looked like you had a thought come to mind but refrained so as not to hit that "wrong" pause. Most of us have seen these songs dozens of times or more and we're here to enjoy your take on them. So, just some thoughts from a sub on that end. You're doing great. 2. Comparisons aren't bad either, in my view. Hell, they're playing guitars, bass, drums and keys and singing. Just like every other band. It's got to be incredibly difficult as a songwriter to not have either some influences in the music, or to just accidentally sound like something someone else has written. Most probably incorporate their influences on purpose. The symphonic background is unique, and again, the transitions in NW are something I've never heard in other bands, so even if parts sound similar you're not going to get a whole song that sounds like something someone else did. And I find their body of work to be so varied that they really stand out from other bands who are really great, but stay with the same formula that got them there. Anyway, enjoying your reactions. Sorry for the long-winded comment. Stay well.

You would never think after these first 4 Nightwish reactions, that none of the songs were written for Floor. She does them all SO much better than the original singers!
Came for Nightwish, stayed and subbed for the Iverson Jersey on the wall (and the reaction ofc). Keep em coming brother and keep having fun, much love from Greece
Haha! I think I was the 1000th like ^^ (Maybe, probably not :P) So happy I found your channel, enjoying your reactions while trying to find new awesome songs to listen to. Have a good Sunday! :)
First of all nice to see new people joining in on nightwish. Secound, the first lead singer Tarja Turunen does awesome stuff as well. ( Tarja - supremacy) the a Muse cover. Then Tarja went for duetts with Within Temptation (Paradise) and alissa white-gluz (former the agonist, now arch enemy) song demons in you. Going on in the chain, Alissa is know from arch enemy but in a very limited skill set. If you like her check Ideomotor by the Agonist the 8 minute version. Sadly there is no official video for it, therefore take panophobia. Last thing in this line 😅 the agonist needed a new front after alissa went to arch enemy. Blood as my Guide and In Vertigo are great songs to check out.
Hey David, you made my day, in these harsh times, by reacting to my fav NW song. Thank you so much. Keep on going spreading the word to this amazing band with Floor, born with music in her heart and a song in her soul. Stay safe, bro ending with love and greetings from the Netherlands!
@Swords Chant Probably yes, but Tuomas himself have said in an interview that Metallica had a huge impact on him right out of the gate (that first ever concert he went). So what's the problem here. And btw this is coming from Finland and while I'm proud of our metal scene I also understand that most bands for the last 25 (ish) years at least have been influenced by some other band(s). That's just human nature and doesn't mean someone is copying someone else.
If you get a chance to go see them, don't miss out. I saw them in Silver Spring a few years back with Sabaton and then last year at the Model Lyric in Baltimore for the decades tour. Epic both times!
Ok... one thing I should point out, if someone hasn't, already. Wacken Open Air 2013 was in August. Floor had only been performing with Nightwish, for about 10 months. She hadn't even been announced as the "official" lead vocalist, at this point. Yet, she commanded that stage, and made those songs hers... as if they had been written with the intention of HER singing them. That's not to diminish the contribution of Tarja and Annette, who preceded her. They're both amazing. It's just a reality. Floor, in my opinion, fulfills the vision that Tuomas had, when he first formed this epic band. Another thing I'll mention... and this is just my personal view... are those there best mic'd drums, in live recorded concert history? 🤔😎🤘🤘 In fact, this is one of the best engineered live recordings, I think I've ever listened to. Just my opinion. Thanks for the Nightwish love. Keep it coming!
Storytime and also Everdream are very catchy songs. There is also the really heavy side (see my recommendations) Nightwish, they have celtic folk influenced songs, nice ballads and of course the epic masterpieces Te Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) and The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere). There is still so much new and different to discover :-)
nice reaction did you see The Hat Man at 4.58 he stands there the whole gig and doesnt move one inch, some say he is a time traveller, lol i think he is full of something illegal... have a nice day and stay safe !
Actually, at Wacken 2013 (August) Floor still did not know she would become a permanent member to the band (which would be in October). She was still in her 'trial period' replacing Anette Olzon. So the audience did not know her that well, or not at all. But how they embraced her from the start, and how Floor connects to the fans, and how the band performs as if they had been together for years, still amazes me.
Check their original singer Tarja. She is more operatic singer. They did cover of "The Phantom of the Opera" or you could check " Wishmaster" End of An Era it was epic perfomance
This song was written with their 2nd singer, Annette, who had more a mainstream pop style. I was at the show where she "called in sick" and was never heard from again (known as the Denver Debacle 2012), that's a story worth checking out. Floor was brought in as an emergency replacement for the tour - she only had 48 hours to learn the set before her first show. This Wacken show was part of that tour. ruclips.net/video/zH33rNy33iU/видео.html Edit: Heads up, there are some songs in this video that you haven't reacted to yet, maybe save this til you are further into your ride if you decide to check it out.
Great reaction! Just pick any of the suggestions - you can't go wrong. Personal favourites from other shows; 7 days to the wolves - Wembley. Weak Fantasy - Tampere. Devil & the deep dark ocean - Buenos Aires and of course The greatest show on earth - Tampere. Just make sure you keep watching the stuff and leave the greatest show on earth as an final boss battle. Its more than 20 minutes - just a heads up. Greetings from Finland
"I thought she had hit her peak..." You need to watch Floor's duet of Phantom of the Opera with the opera singer Henk Poort from the Dutch music show Beste Zangers. And Ever Dream from the Wacken 2013 concert is my go to feel good song. Especially when I am a little drunk. That song makes me happy. :)
So glad you have found Nightwish and enjoy them and Floor as much as we do. The next one has to be "The Greatest Show On Earth" from the Big Bang all the way through creation, The age of man to We were here. It will blow the doors off all other songs, imho. Prepare to have another Floorgasim .. Thanks for all your insightful reviews, I have watched them all on Nightwish, love your channel bro. Keep up the good work.
You should definitely check out Epica! They're also in the Symphonic Metal category and have a stunning lead singer named Simone Simons! I recommend Consign to Oblivion live at the Zenith, it's the final song of the show and really showcases the band as a whole. And we all know you like heavy riffs so this will be a treat
Since you mentioned Floor's range, I suggest you check out Beste Zangers - The Phantom of the Opera with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. She kills it. It was made last year during a show in the Netherlands Floor was invited to. Basically, the show puts a bunch of singers on an island and each week, one of them is put in the spotlight while the others sing their songs or songs that matter to them.
You talked about the chorus being a mainstream commercial rock sound. This song was a single. They tend to do that on a lot of their singles. Some other songs by them that tend to have a sound like that are Elan, Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful (both originally recorded with Anette Olzon the singer before Floor), or Nemo (originally recorded with Tarja Turunen, their first singer).
Another great reaction my friend! Ghost river is awesome, and has Marco helping out. Ever dream is also fantastic, if you haven't yet. Keep em coming:)
My friend, you’re going to have a backlog of Nightwish for weeks. The journey is well worth it. There’s still so many sounds you haven’t heard yet. The surprises will keep coming. Just wait until you work your way to their new album that just dropped today!
music is art the important thing is to make each influence its own and nightwish have made their sound unique and in more than twenty years no one has equaled them excitingly every song they play.in forty years of listening for me they collect all kinds of original and exciting sets always ... listen Even Floor alone will surprise you believe me.
As for Tuomas shaking out his hand, you'll see him do that quite a bit in videos. If you look at 8:06, you can see how his hair hangs over his hand. I think the sweat might be dripping down his hair and falling on his hand forcing him to have to shake it off. Just a theory. Or, it could be cramps as you said.
Suscribed and following you in your Nightwish journey, get ready for the most epic ride! I'd sugest Seven Days to the Wolves (live at Wembley) next or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from the 2018 Buenos Aires show!
And yes, Tuomas is a big fan of Metallica, I could say that thanks to Metallica, nightwish exist, Tuomas was in a metallica concert and that was the introduction to the metal music for Tuomas BUT, you can hear a lot of cinematic influence, Tuomas loves Hans zimmer, that is the why symphonic metal is so present in nightwish
Go watch "Please learn the setlist in 24 hours." Floor didn't join this tour until halfway through. Hardly anyone there had seen Floor perform with Nightwish before this night. I often wonder if the people there knew they were watching one of the most epic concerts of all time
Let's see... song's ya havent done from this show... amaranth, Nemo, Everdream, Darkchest of wonders, wish I had an angel, ghost river, last ride of the day, she is my sin, I want my tears back, bless the child and last of the wilds is just instrumental orchestra but still a nice addition :D
My go-to song when I need a mood lifter. ALWAYS makes me happy when I hear this song. Thats one thing I love about Nightwish, they have at least one song for every single mood and need. Still waiting for you to call Floor a goddess and Tuomas a genius though.. You'll get there eventually, I just know it ;) and remember, "poet and the pendulum" could always do with a bit of background info to understand the lyrics better. and in "greatest show on earth" there's an easter egg (as I like to call it) in that song, gonna be interesting to see if u hear it when u get to that song. hint..metallica. ;) Keep up the good work. You've just barely scratched the surface ;)
This song was off of their album "Imaginaerum." If you want something really interesting then check out the movie based off of the album and including the music throughout. @@skeezesmith7954 I think the idea was to not say it. and let the reactor find it on their own.
all NW fans know the riff and where it is and who plays it but new reactors don't smh
NZ Conservative skeeze didn’t get it ;)
@Kanashimi Nah it's all good :D The future just got nearer
A happy metal song!! I think they are the rarest of the rare. There is a reason why this was one of their biggest hits and it is because of the more mainstream sound of the chorus it just made it more palatable to the masses.
The ONLY reactor I've seen (and I've seen a TON over the last year or so) that caught Tuomas shaking out a hand cramp! Kudos for that catch, Hoopsick!
Don't apologize for the Metallica comment... Tuomas recognizes them as one of his influences... Also Therion, Pink Floyd and some other great European metal bands... I'm sure the Nightwish army will tell you more about the influences...
Greetings from Spain and stay metal...
Their cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes is amazing.
Yep. Here the spanish corner requesting you to check the godparents of the genre (Therion "To Mega Therion" at Wacken 2001 ruclips.net/video/L-RGxhg6psU/видео.html)
@@fioddorsuperconcentrado2492 Genial, colega...
Cuidate, colega...
Never seen a metal band with so many smile and joy . It's one of the many reason that I love them 🤟
Nobody should apologize for metalica influence ! 🤘 one great band.
Beside the whole band.....the drummer is on "Beast-Mode"
Would love to see what you make of Dark Chest of Wonders, the opener from this show, and also Bless the Child, and also all the others 😁
if you want a diferent voice of floor, react to the song yours is an empty hope of nightwish
👊
Its funy you compare to Metallica cuz they've said before Metallica is a huge influence to them
Nice. Not the chorus, but I could definitely imagine Hetfield singing the verses
@@Hoopsick I never made that connection but now I can't unhear it^^
I think Pink Floyd also influenced a young Tuomas
@Swords Chant Probably yes, but Tuomas himself have said in an interview that Metallica had a huge impact on him right out of the gate (that first ever concert he went). So what's the problem here. And btw this is coming from Finland and while I'm proud of our metal scene I also understand that most bands for the last 25 (ish) years at least have been influenced by some other band(s). That's just human nature and doesn't mean someone is copying someone else.
ALL their songs are different and epic. Nightwish are the best!
This song is epic as hell.
5:50 God Mode activated
If you get a chance to go see them, don't miss out. I saw them in Silver Spring a few years back with Sabaton and then last year at the Model Lyric in Baltimore for the decades tour. Epic both times!
If you want to hear Floor belt listen to the song called “Everdream” It will blow you away!
Dark Chest Of Wonders same show, you must see this 🤣🤣😊😊
Thank you, great reaction. Next one Weak Fantasy (Tampere 2015 live) or 7 Days To The Wolves (Wembley 2016 live).
One of the best chorus's in metal
Ok... one thing I should point out, if someone hasn't, already.
In fact, this is one of the best engineered live recordings, I think I've ever listened to.
Didn't notice so I just went and looked. He does stand out
I still think he’s an alien lol , you can see him in a few songs from Wacken show .
Epic Performance.
To see Floor's true top range watch the Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera she did on Beste Zangers 2019. More levels of upness.
Amaranth and Last Ride of the Day from this same concert are also amazing.
Check their original singer Tarja. She is more operatic singer. They did cover of "The Phantom of the Opera" or you could check " Wishmaster" End of An Era it was epic perfomance
Yeah, it just keeps on going. The hits I mean. Glad you're still diggin em.🤘
Brilliant H. Something a bit different "Sleeping Sun live Tempera 2015"
Your reactions are super! Really like your style.
More please 🤘🏽
Now you did it! My fav! Ty!!! Next 7 Days to the Wolves live at Wembley 2015.
🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘 Another Excellent Song!!!! 🤘🤘
Yours is an empty hope is another one that gives you the metallica feel. Plus floor really goes all in on that one.
@wembley -the poet and the pendulum
- your is and empty hope
👍👍👍
You need to watch the offical video. Seeing them in formal wear is awesome. Marko's new album is on a playlist now in Finnish.
Ghost River(same show) it's one of the best.. really nice vocals and guitar work :)
Floor the Valkyie, The Amazon Queen of Metal has no peak on vocals :)
Cheers bro...awesome reaction!
Yours is an empty hope ... You can hear Floor growling in chorus 😁 Poet and the Pendulum, shows her range 😍
My friend, you’re going to have a backlog of Nightwish for weeks. The journey is well worth it. There’s still so many sounds you haven’t heard yet. The surprises will keep coming. Just wait until you work your way to their new album that just dropped today!
music is art the important thing is to make each influence its own and nightwish have made their sound unique
and in more than twenty years no one has equaled them excitingly every song they play.in forty years of listening for me they collect all kinds of original and exciting sets always ... listen Even Floor alone will surprise you believe me.
Tuomas has pushed every band member to the limits and beyond!, which is fantastic!!. You want feelings and this band delivers it!!
Great reaction, you really watch closely , your the first who mention the handshaking of Tuomas. (As far as I Saw others)
Bless you and the family ❤️🤘
I envy You :)
U are at the beginning of this road...
BTW. Great reactions... good job
Greetings from Poland
Favorite song to end my evening at work "The last Ride of the Day"
The Greatest Show On Earth
The poem of the pendulum next
Go watch "Please learn the setlist in 24 hours." Floor didn't join this tour until halfway through. Hardly anyone there had seen Floor perform with Nightwish before this night. I often wonder if the people there knew they were watching one of the most epic concerts of all time
So glad you liked it : ) . BTW I noticed your Penn State stickers, I have a niece and nephew going there :) . Do you still live in PA?
Let's see... song's ya havent done from this show... amaranth, Nemo, Everdream, Darkchest of wonders, wish I had an angel, ghost river, last ride of the day, she is my sin, I want my tears back, bless the child and last of the wilds is just instrumental orchestra but still a nice addition :D
My go-to song when I need a mood lifter. ALWAYS makes me happy when I hear this song. Thats one thing I love about Nightwish, they have at least one song for every single mood and need.
Still waiting for you to call Floor a goddess and Tuomas a genius though.. You'll get there eventually, I just know it ;)
and remember, "poet and the pendulum" could always do with a bit of background info to understand the lyrics better. and in "greatest show on earth" there's an easter egg (as I like to call it) in that song, gonna be interesting to see if u hear it when u get to that song. hint..metallica. ;)
Keep up the good work. You've just barely scratched the surface ;)
Nightwish Army is growing. Sit back grab 🍷enjoy
This song was off of their album "Imaginaerum." If you want something really interesting then check out the movie based off of the album and including the music throughout. It's also titled "Imaginaerum" and is a pretty decent watch. Here's the trailer for it... ruclips.net/video/rAoj3MsOiE8/видео.html

I like your comment about the handcramp. I've always noticed it and haven't seen anyone comment about it. I get those myself :)
Hi from the UK another great band is called band maid its an all girl Japanese band and these girls can rock
Band maid play live
Band maid don't you tell me live
Band maid puzzle live
Blooming official music video
Band maid also has an army lol
I have three possible suggestions:
1. Dark Chest of Wonders (Wacken 2013)
2. Bless the Child (Wacken 2013)
3. Alpenglow (Wembly)
keep an eye out for the film that Nightwish made called Imaginaerium
Retro NIGHTWISH "Phantom of the Opera"......TARJA..original vocalist....
Awesome reaction !! Yours is an Empty Hope from the Nightwish cruise 🚢, cause I like that version better, little more intimate and better sounding IMO , Ghost River from Wacken for some more creative genius 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
What you have to understand is the fact that Floor came as an emergency rescue to save the 2012 tour and by the end of the tour in 2013
she was already full member together with Troy.
To understand the whole story you have to watch "please learn the setlist in 48 hours" ; ruclips.net/video/vhExkmWKMEU/видео.html
