  • Just a little Warp sequence.
In 2012 I started creating new VFX scenes for Star Trek V. I will now gradually put these online here.
The aim was to design the look, the camera perspectives and the movements in the style of the 80s.
This video contains more "making of" scenes.
    Have fun watching

ST5 not only needs a f/x upgrade, it needs to have about 10 minutes of running time (dialogue) added back that the studio made Shatner delete for purposes of allowing more showings per week. The truncated version that we all know is too hurried, too rushed in my opinion. Restoring some dialogue would give background to the events happening in the story.

Shatner apparently approached Paramount about releasing a Director's Cut of ST:V which would restore some of the cut scenes and use upgraded visual fx but the execs at Paramount turned him down.

Star Trek V is a much better film than people give it credit. The camping scenes alone are some of my favorites in the entire series.

To my eye, TMP had THE best warp effects of any Trek show or movie. It had dramatic "punch" a thunder clap, and an other-worldly/science -look that has never been topped.

Of that type of jump to warp, I preferred the version in Star Trek II, where it was almost identical, but with stars stretching rather than the bright and more orderly lights. That said, I do quite like the thunderclap of it.
Overall, I've still got a really, really soft spot for the TNG style stretch.

The warp effects in VI are spot on IMO. The ship tearing through space. In V the ship looks like its traveling at full impulse.

I would seriously LOVE to see you create a full-blown fan edit of this film! Cut out the cringeworthy, corny jokes & put in your amazing effects work, and that’s make for a fantastic version of Star Trek V!!!

Really like your warp effects. They look like the afterburners from the SR71 IRL.

Nice one, the new warp-effect looks far less extreme (I always found the original one to be just a senseless blur of colours) and the background is amazing.

Now that I look back at this film, I did find the effects wanting in some areas. Like the jump to warp and the passbys

Paramount should hire you to redo the Special Effects for a true Star Trek V Edition!
I wish the interiors that used STNG sets could redo those.

You’re so incredibly talented and I can’t tell you how excited I am when I see you’ve uploaded new work! Thank you for all this wonderful visuals, you’re really rejuvenating a film that didn’t get a fair chance at shining. I wonder if you are going to give us the infamous ‘rock monsters’, boy oh boy, I would love to see what William Shatner had planned for the ending.

Paramount screwed over Shatner with budget cuts and a reduced shooting schedule. When you look at the DVD and the visual effects are better than what's in the movie you know you have a problem. If nothing else they should let Shatner redo the visuals and correct continuity problems with CGI and editing. They owe it to him for their mismanagement 👍🖖

For all its faults, _The Final Frontier_ is still better than any of the reboot installments. I'd happily take a few awkwardly inserted jokes and whatnot over the needless grimdark, character assassination, and flagrant disregard for established canon seen in _Discovery_ or _Picard_ .

It had it's own level of charm, and great character interactions between the old crew members. As Scifimaster so eloquently stated, it's far better than any of the movies we've gotten in the last 13 years.
