    I gotta give US Soccer some credit for keeping this video alive. It sure is a humble reminder of how far we fell in missing out on the 2018 WC and it was due to awful defense. No pressure. Not even able to clear a simple cross. The team that has now advanced to the Round of 16 in Qatar is a thing of beauty. They play assertively, with style, savvy, and artistic flair. They held England to a scoreless draw, when that team has enough firepower to light up just about any country in the world. Please just keep Zimmerman on the bench and we should stand a fair chance to beat Netherlands.

      This game was unfortunate because the first goal was bad luck and the second was an incredible shot. Fast forward 5 years and our guys have virtually zero experience plus absolutely atrocious coaching and they still qualified for the knockout stage. The future looks bright for 2026 when we have home field advantage

      Looking back on this comment, everything you said was right except about Zimmerman. Tired of the whole "MLS man bad" trope. Zimmerman was the reason we stayed afloat against Iran.

    • @DaddyGamerDiaries
      @DaddyGamerDiaries 11 месяцев назад

      Fair enough@@TylerWalter92 I was probably overly harsh on Zimmerman back then because his foul allowed Wales to score from the penalty spot and steal two points from USMNT. He's a good player and certainly MLS players have played important roles in USMNT World Cup success in the past.

    The saddest part is that the best player on the field is 19 years old and he's better than the entire squad. The dumb players that you call veterans are not even experienced, and shouldn't even be called veterans. Why?, Because Christian Pulisic is way better than all those experienced players. I thought that we were ready to qualify. Just one win away, but no. Where the f*ck was the pressure at the entire game.

    The arrogance here is disgusting. "We have thousands of medals" "soccer isn't our #1 sport" "US is better at everything"...this is the mentality that leads to us missing the World Cup. Who cares how many Olympic medals we have, where soccer ranks, or fucking US politics when it comes to the sport of soccer? It's all IRRELEVANT. It's a cop out. Let's put PRESSURE on our soccer program and realize that the fact that we can't make the World Cup is SHAMEFUL. No more "we are good at x though, so suck it" COP OUT. It's not the American reject sport it used to be. The only way things are going to change is by taking responsibility and recognizing that it's time to get serious and stop giving US soccer a pass

      I kinda agree, kinda disagree with you. I think Altidore can stay around for the next qualifying cycle, as for the most part he's proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer during qualifying stages (the first 8 games of this Hex are more of an exception to that). It's his actual tournament record that causes me to want to disagree; perhaps I'm being a tad harsh, as he tends to get injured when one comes around, but that's still not helping his case either.
      Raptor5000, we can keep Dempsey for part of next year: let's get him as the USA's all-time leading goalscorer. Howard's done, although I'd like him to get one last shut-out in for the US before retiring from national team service. Bradley can stay in Toronto, and Guzan can stay in Atlanta.

    #BRUCE ARENA OUT!!! That was the most pathetic display of the game i've seen at this stage.. Why play for a draw from the first minute??? Unbelievably idiotic game plan from Arena. We paid the price and looked completely garage against the lowest ranked team in the group.... But above all else, R.I.P. to Pulisic's international career. Huge opportunity wasted. This has already been deemed the most embarassing moment in USMNT history... This will probably also halt the growth in popularity of the sport in the US as well, since hardly anyone will watch the next WC in the US. What a shit show

    • @oliverlinehan8701
      @oliverlinehan8701 7 лет назад +5

      He tried to play for a draw with only one midfielder in the entire lineup. He really is a moron.
      List of players who should never play for us again
      Howard- He was good 3 years ago, but he is just way too old.
      Guzan- See above
      Villafana-Shit
      Beasley-Too old
      Cameron-Too old and getting worse. Still one of the only good passers in our pool though.
      Besler- I like him but he has no future
      Gonzalez- Worst defender in US history. We could have used Cameron, Miazga, or even some random MLS or USL player and they would have done better than Gonzalez has ever done for the US. Remember how he cost us the win against Portugal after coming off the bench right at the end of the game?
      Zusi- No explanation needed.
      McCarty- I like him but no future
      Nagbe- Has some talent but contributes fuck all. Extemely overhyped
      Arriola- Tries hard but no actual talent.
      Zardes- Obvious to anyone with any soccer knowledge
      Morris- See above
      Bedoya- See Arriola
      Mayyybe Altidore- I still think he has some legitimate talent,
      Dempsey- Give him some testimonial November friendlies for a chance at the record. He was a post away from being the hero last night, and he deserves to go out with more dignity than this shit that Arena has given him.
      Bradley and Altidore will be the main targets for blame as usual. There are legitimate criticisms of both but they have both been hurt more than anyone else by tactical incompetence at the coaching level. But you can't criticize Bradley for struggling in what was essentially a 4-1-5 formation in Trinidad, with Arriola, Nagbe, and Pulisic all being very forward thinking midfielders to go along with our 2 strikers. Bradley had no defensive help at all. Altidore is a good passer and has a good tactical understanding of the game. He isn't good enough at arials where you can just hoof passes at his head and hope something good happens. He needs to be allowed to receive the ball somehow. With our 1 midfielder Bruce formation, that "somehow" ends up being him dropping all the way back next to Bradley, which is not where we want him. They might both still have a place on the team, at least for now.
      This is how I would like to proceed.
      Coach: Tata Martino
      GK: Horvath
      Rb: Yedlin
      Cb: Miazga
      Cb: Brooks
      Lb: Vincent (we have literally no other options right now, but I'd prefer to avoid MLS players)
      Dm: Bradley (Jonathan Gonzalez will probably play for Mexico now so nice job Bruce!)
      Dm: McKennie
      Rm: Pulisic
      Lm: Green
      Cam: Gooch or Hyndman
      St: Wood

      I know being willfully ignorant is an easier way to cope but you're also going to miss the real problems. This teams talent pool is running dry and what talent we do have is not being put to its full potential. We've lost that US mentality that gave us a lot of our success in previous world cups and now all we're left with is mediocre players with seemingly a lack of interest or passion for the USMNT. Sure we'll probably be back in 4 years but was that really the goal anyways? Just to qualify?

    One of the best players in the entire world is here in the United States. He's only 8-10 years old right now but one day he will be the best in the world. The problem is he Doesn't Know It. In fact he probably doesn't have a clue about soccer as of yet. And sadly we will likely never find him. This can't happen in the future. We need to find this kid. Before he goes on and chooses football, basketball, or some other sport. Best soccer player in the world ends up being just a kinda decent basketball player. Or maybe he never plays any sports at all. He ends up a dentist, a civil engineer, a drug addict/criminal, or whatever. Potential lost because it'll just be a potential that's never even known. We have to find these kids before they move on in life to something else.

      Very well said. I will venture to say countless people miss out on countless opportunities in life because they did not know what they did not know. BTW, it's not so bad that soccer's loss would be dentistry's or engineering's gain.

      they don't deserve fans. apart from Pulisic most of the current team is either too old/past their prime or absolute trash. The US team was at their prime in 2013 and somewhat decent in 2014. Since 2015 they've been garbage. I'm done supporting this team. Oh and Bruce Arena is a moron.

      Joel P.- Oh I stuck around. After a humiliating 2006 World Cup, a disappointing and embarrassing loss to Ghana in the 2010 world cup. and a team that has been complete garbage since 2015. But now they don't even qualify for the Cup with just needing a draw against Trinidad and Tobago? Fuck that. I can't support a team that plays this horribly. I am tired of the constant disappointment. They 1989 team that barely had a professional team qualified for the 1990 World Cup, and these pompous little assholes can't even qualify for 2018? Even when despite their horrendous mistakes they were given a perfect chance here? All they had to do was not lose against the worst team in the Hex that had already been eliminated. And they failed. So fuck them.

    • @joelp.9349
      @joelp.9349 7 лет назад

      SirBullet754 look man I know it’s ugly but that’s just how life is sometimes. I know this team can bounce back, and I mean I’m a Mexican-American so I constantly have to deal with criticism from them. This is gonna be a running gag for the next 4 years but I don’t mind. It’s just a game in the end.

    • @SirBullet754
      @SirBullet754 7 лет назад

      Joel P.- I get it. But the only way they're going to bounce back is if they make real changes. Right now I can't watch anymore of these games. They need to change the youth system and get rid of all of these old players. I have no idea how Michael Bradley is still playing. Talk about nepotism. And Tim Howard is waaay past his prime. Look this just really pissed me off, because they got so many chances to do it right, and then this is how they fail to qualify? One thing would be if their last game was at the Azteca against Mexico, but this? No, for the moment I'm done. I'm actually Italian-American and was born in Italy but moved to the US as a child and for over half a decade I've witnessed the Italian team just humiliate themselves in two consecutive World Cups, and now my other favorite team isn't even going, and technically Italy hasn't even qualified yet so that's yet to be seen, but if they're just going to humiliate themselves again like in 2010 and 2014 they might as well not go either. I might as well root for Iceland, a team that deserves respect for managing to qualify.

    USA has a striker problem. We have studs at every position, but no fox in the box. Look at all of our results from 1998-2014...McBride, Donovan and/or Dempsey figured heavily in all. Come 2017, Dempsey is a reserve and we’re counting on Bobby Wood? The US can have the best 10 in the world for all I care but until we have a striker that can start in the Premier League, get used to this.

    Just watched this again in the wake of a USA-less World Cup draw (of what has to be the weakest World Cup field in ages, one in which the USA--in a more "normal" year--very well could've made the semis given the right draw), and I'm even more astonished now than then at the unreal amount of luck that it took to keep us out. That shot at 3:05 AND the great saves by the T&T goalkeeper AND the real chance at 3:28 AND the phantom goal by Panama (a crazy bad call that you don't even see in CONCACAF very often)...

I'm kind of rooting for Panama and Argentina now--Panama because they were so close to making it last time and it's kind of the last hurrah of their golden generation (I'm hoping against hope that it's not too late for that), and Argentina because Messi deserves to lift a World Cup in his lifetime.
      Oh, and Costa Rica because it sounds like a nice country I'd like to visit when I'm older and richer and it would teach the other countries not to scoff at the difficulty of CONCACAF qualifiers (though most of that difficulty is due to their local climate advantage, which showed more in Brazil than it will in Russia).
