let Branden sanderson finish the series. i would Definitely read it since i have an excuse to get into more Sanderson books; so far unhappy to say that i only read Mistborn trilogy.
I really love the world building and storytelling that is presented in these books. The name of the wind and wise man's fear are two of my favorite books of all time. That being said, i won't be waiting forever for book 3 to come out. Ive been patient, I've moved onto other books while keeping this one on the back of my mind. I've read them and re-read them about a dozen times. I honestly dont know how much longer I'll wait. Perhaps it's time to let the series go. I think a dozen years has been long enough. Winston Churchill said it best, "perfection is the enemy of progress". Perfection is something many artists get tangled up in. Striving for it and hating everything they create because it isn't perfect.
@@pablodm9dude that thinking is one of the reasons why this man wont finish the series. Who gives a fuck if it doesnt live up to expectations if trying to bring a perfect book that lives to everyones expectations leads to the series own demise
This breaks my heart. I loved those books. I imagine Rothfuss is having some serious problems though. You know he would finish it if he could. I just hope he's ok.
He is probably okay, he has just totally written himself into a corner with this story. The plot is that older Kvothe tells this historian about his life story in three nights while running his pub, while the threat of these spider things in the present is getting really dangerous. The problem is, Kvothe hasn't even told the historian one tenth of his past adventures. At the end of book two he is not even at the point where he has his magic powers fully developed and we still have no idea about these Chandrian. There is simply much too much story to tell to fit into one more book. The only chance to finish this is to find an excuse to get away from the three books representing three nights of oral storytelling.
The Trump years hit him really hard, like many people. I don't think he's ever recovered, mentally. I would guess he has enough money to live off of, a family he loves dearly and even a twitch stream as a creative outlet. He doesn't have any real incentive to try to finish it.
@@ecoKady Yes, everything was just sooooo much worse during Trump 🙄 sheesh you people. Mean tweets didn't didn't stop Pat from writing. Quit making excuses for him.
The Name of the Wind is to this day my favorite book. It was so good the first time I read it and it was even better the second time through. The Wise Man's Fear is just as good in my opinion and the scene with the cthaeh makes me feel goosebumps every time I read it. These books remind me of good times in my life. They fill me with such joy. Despite his shortcomings as of late I'm rooting for Patrick. Like most fans I'm dying read the Doors of Stone and I do feel some resentment that it hasn't come yet but I understand. I don't think he expected the success and praise he got and that can severely mess with the process. I just hope that Patrick is able to work through whatever is going on, albeit for selfish reasons. I can bitch and moan that it's taking forever but the second it comes out I'd pay double if it meant getting it asap. I really want the best for Patrick and this amazing series he's masterfully crafted, but if he never delivers i don't think I'll ever get over it.
Some stand up comedian rightly said, you don't enjoy the things you enjoyed as kids but the happiness it brought you... i read notw as my 3rd book & over the years thought it was good enough so wny not re-read & it didn't dissapoint, it is just that good that after years i can explore it differently still
I didn't realise they came out that long ago. I read the first book in late 2013 and the second in early 2015, so I'd no idea people had been waiting longer than that. Since I was a latecomer to the series I have never quite had any expectation of the third book appearing soon, and frankly it's rather slipped from my mind. I won't hold my breath. Having been reading a song of ice and fire since that first came out in the 90's, that one is much more uppermost in my mind. Although by the time Dance with Dragons came out I had forgotten most of the earlier books so had to re read them all to get into that. If it wasn't for the tv show having raised the presence of the series, I think my attitude to it would be the same as with Kingkiller Chronicles. One that nobody talks about though is the science fiction series the War Against the Chtorr by David Gerrold. Been waiting since 1993 for book five of that.
I still haven't read Dance with Dragons for the same reason. I'm waaaay behind with Game of Thrones and I started reading when Book 2 came out. It's frustrating that Rothfuss is seemingly abandoning his Golden Egg. I've heard he's a bit of a jerk now, although I couldn't give you specific examples. He's a hell of a writer though!
Rothfuss is hiding from the inevitable reviews that will come with a book. His mental state has been so weak in the past that I'm being he's not finishing it because he's too afraid of critical reviews. At this point I'm done with him.
We all know what a corner he has written himself into. There is no way he can adequately finish the story in a satisfying way in 1 book. There are too many loose ends that need attention and not enough pages in 1 book to give them all the attention they deserve. I am with you. I think he has some book 2 shipwreck and the months that was panning out fast forward happening in 3 that just glosses over a lot of things and will get him raked over the coals by both critics and fans. He can't get it finished in 1 book that will make his audience happy (like he promised) and won't give them what can do in one book because he knows he will immediately be called a liar over what he had to skip. He is just treading water.
@netabolt6546 Dude, at this point I'll write the damn thing, though he's boxed himself into a corner w/ the whole killing an angel thing, blah blah blah.
There is a theory about having a Ghost writer that died befote finishing the 2nd book thats why he can't write the 3rd and why the writing on the 2 becomes Shaky trough the end
Patrick Rothfuss is a crook who swindled his fans during his fundraiser last year. That, and with over 10 years of constant snark from him means I won't even touch book 3 should it ever release. (Which it won't.)
@cedar.summit Considering that many significant characters in books one and two weren't in the first draft, adding them to book three would be kinda important.
Well I'd recommend reading it eventually, if it ever does come out. Perhaps search for a library copy, or wait a few years til it gets into a book sale bin somewhere. That's what I plan on. I haven't even bought Slow Regard, nevermind his 10th anniversary edition of book 1. And since he just announced a new book this year, I can firmly say I'm not planning on reading that one either. But the end to the trilogy, I fell I've promised that to myself, good or not.
@@dumplingdepinto I think it's a matter of taste. Sanderson has a Prose that is to the point, not to fancy pants with the words overall. That alone tells you how GOOD the series actually is. I wish Rothfuss well, and hope he gets over whatever it is he's going through. We can wait a while longer.
Series is as good as it’s ending… but for adaptation it comes down to how good the show runners are and how faithful they keep to source… look at GoT vs WoT… and I love WoT books but the show is horrendous.
Come to a close? Book three is no way going to end it. It might bring the story to the "present" but it seems like there's a whole lot going on in the present that will take over after that....
i read the two books probably in 2017 or 2018 if i'm not mistaken, i loved the books but so far i'm still waiting for the last book. i fear that it never gonna be written but i have hopes for another writer to pick it up and save it, but i feel that would be wrong since Rothfuss writingstyle is pretty recognizable as Rothfuss only. if there is a writer however to turn the last book into publishing, i thing Brandon Sanderson can do it.
I have zero interest into reading the third book, even before I knew anything about Pat. I LOVED the first one. The fantasy world was super interesting and the mysteries were fascinating. Then the second book happened. I read the first third and it was just continuation of the first book. Lots of repeat but decent. Then the plot started moving, billion things happened really fast and ONE YEAR IN FAE. The most pathetic 13-year-old boy's sexual fantasy I've ever seen. And if that wasn't enough now that Kvothe was good at sex, every single woman wanted to jump on his bone, except his closest friends... silver linings I guess. Like seriously, what was that? Who writes ish like that? No, I won't be touching the third book with a mile long stick if it released. And after learning about Pat's antics, I find him deeply unremarkable human being, who had god tier editor for his first book and got lucky. He doesn't have a creative ability to write anything further than this.
Truth is "The fear of a wise man" in my opinion didn't get to the level of "The name of the wind" so I'm quite sure he's dry of inspiration and the book won't be up to the standards we are expecting. So maybe not having the third part is for the better.
just watched that awesome video!!!! "3rd in line at best" WTF!!!! We are the folks BUYING the books, giving you a paycheck!!!! We are first in line. Stephen King got hit by a car and thats what it took to wake him up to maybe dying before he could finish Gunslinger, so he finished it. Wake up Pat before its too late!!! I feel bad for any of the difficulties he's had in his life but guess what, we all have, my dad died and i had to go to work the next day, life has been on the edge and i still had to produce and satisfy others to EARN money to make ends meet. Maybe the issue is he was given too much money and doesn't feel the need to produce and satisfy others he can just sit around till the cash runs dry THEN he will NEED to finish. Oh but that's not necessarily true, he's completing other works, though im not sure how being he's struggling in life. Must be nice to disappoint so many folks and not only not care but to actually talk down to people that are upset about it!!! I really don't want to but the 3rd book.
Lol there's some disagreements among the fan base. Some consider Book of Morman to be the final book of the trilogy. But lots of fans really hated it and don't consider it cannon
I don't want ant kingkiller chorincle untill he finish the damn series because the series is so good which mean if the adaptation became famous the network will milk weather the fans agree or not so the best thing is waiting untill Rothfuss remember he have a series to finish but i would love if they adapted mistborn or other completed fantasy
Yeah, Kote made The Chronicler wait three days for his entire story. If anything this gives us is the fact that Pat is similar, he will tell the story when he thinks it's complete and worth showing.
My son was born within months of Wise man’s fear. He is almost finished his first year of high school. Every year when his birthday comes around I am reminded of the excruciating wait for another book
The third book is not a happy ending where kvothe opens the box and goes back adventuring and works everything out with denna and stops the war and the scrael. It's a tragedy that shows how everything wrong in the world is his direct fault. It does not answer the many many interesting questions brought up so far, because they are largely irrelevant to that. So it's not a satisfying conclusion to most people anyway even if they had it to read a decade ago. He also can't get a movie or series deal if he releases book 3 and everyone is mad at the ending being a tragedy.
name of the wind is possibly my favourite book, but I wont be buying the doors of stone new, because I dont want to give him my money, its unlikely to released anyway, he literally lied to fans and took a ton of money from his publisher and ended up actually hurting the publishing company.
I'm convinced the book series won't be completed. It's disappointing. At this point I want another author to complete the series. I believe both Rothfuss, Martin are tapped out on their topics. Rothfuss has written, published short stories as books related to the Kingkiller Chronicles but don't do anything to contribute to it.
It would be nice if the voice over dude could pronounce Kvothe's name correctly. It says early in book one it's pronounced with a W sound not with the V sound. Ok, I'm nitpicking, but that's what us book nerds do, right? 😆

As a "fan" of both ASoIaF and The Kingkiller Chronicles, I am truly thankful for Brandon Sanderson. At least his books actually come out, and if he is running behind, Sanderson always lets his fans know.
I know each day told is suppose to be a book and the story is told over 3 days. I just don’t believe he could finish the story in 3 books. He might be hung up on trying to fit everything in 3 books when he should really just write 4 books. That’s my only guess
I actually don't care anymore. The books are not that good. He does well to intrigue us, but we will not get what we want from this series. Kvothe is a deadbeat like his persona.
He should split the last book into two or three parts, like what J.K. Rowling did for that last Harry Potter book. Gives him space to finish the story and content to push out to fans 🤷
He knows it's going to be his last successful book, so he's gonna drag it out until he needs more money. I'm certainly not going to read another series from him. I'd be dead before it finished. He's been dragging this out forever for failed TV and Movie deals. Now none of his "fans" trust him. He could have been one of the next truly amazing authors, and he really wasted the opportunity.
At this point i just gave up. I don't even remember what happened in the first two books and i wont read the third even if it comes out, which i doubt.
I think the real issue the author is having is that he has to use up his grand finale of magic in the woods fight. That was very cool. He's also a crazy liberal who blames Trump for him not finishing the books. He said that nobles son.. forgot his name, kvothe's enemy... anyway a fan asked him if he was a Donald Trump character and Patrick Ruthfuss slowly agreed and i think that plaques him. I think his tds, general mental illness and laziness has him in a he'll die in. He's a loser. I don't know this but i would guess he's never dated by the awkward way he writes the story between kvothe and denna. I loved the books. I'm rereading them, but Patrick is a loser who tries to bribe us with chapters for charity and never produces them. Does anyone have a book sunniest because i do love the heroic fantasy genre. Thanks in advance.
13 years and counting. Even if Rothfuss only wrote 15 minutes a day, it would have been finished by now. But no, not even that 1 chapter that he promised. Lets face it. Rothfuss lied to everyone.
Any one else note that his first books are written like by 2 difrent people? If he only dedicate some of the time he waisted telling everyone how greate it will be that book would've been finish by now. Now its gone be a book finished by AI.
😂😂 he is not doing to finish it. I have been waiting it for 12 years. My bet is Patrick will die and most probably Brandon Sanderson will pick up the material and finish it.
Patrick should be arrested and held against his will until he finishes that darn book. As a society we must not allow things like Firefly being only one season, or Rothfuss laziness from happening again.
I adored this story, but this comment is one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever read. Worse than book burning. Nationalization of creativity is a sure fire formula for destroying it, and I am staunch Liberal. The pressure on him is probably fueling the writers block. And if he never finishes it, it was never as good as we thought/hoped.
Do you think we will ever see The Doors of Stone released?
I still hold hope
I don't think so. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look like it.

Yes but by his estate when Brandon Sanderson’s grandchild writes it “based on notes” to complete the legacy.
Not by Rothfuss, but I feel at some point he will let someone else write it.

let Branden sanderson finish the series. i would Definitely read it since i have an excuse to get into more Sanderson books; so far unhappy to say that i only read Mistborn trilogy.
@@netabolt6546I highly recommend the stormlight archives, its ever bit or shall I say better then mistborn
@@netabolt6546Not sure if Sanderson would do this. Why would he? Why would Rothfuss even want him to?
Whenever he finishes it, I hope that it won't be rushed, but a complete and flawless read befitting the previous two books
13 years and counting. Rushed ?
Name of the wind is my favorite book hands down
not my favorite but definitely still good book but after Doors of Stone will Never release i lost my interest.
Yeah, but it would feel disappointing if the third book doesn't live up to expectations, specially after 12 years of working
@@pablodm9dude that thinking is one of the reasons why this man wont finish the series. Who gives a fuck if it doesnt live up to expectations if trying to bring a perfect book that lives to everyones expectations leads to the series own demise
Doors of Stone will never release. He's a twitch streamer now, and I have lost all faith.
Unmotivated lazy liberal. Less soy & more weights.
Yeah this book is never coming out, Rothfuss has barely done any work on it in thepast decade and doesnt seem particullary interested in doing so
This breaks my heart.
Pats problem is he loves being a celebrity more than being an author.
@@ecoKady I feel like people were actually badly impacted by Trump's presidency, especially rich people like Pat so it's not an excuse in anyway.
Finish the book, then and only then will everyone agree with you that you shouldn't have written it. Win/win
Nar he’s a fwit
@@LaurenE135 Yeah, for a guy that supposedly had already written a complete version of the story before Book 1 was even published... wtf??
@@danroberts007He wrote himself into a gd corner.

He will never finish.
Thank you for this video. I thought i was one of few that's been waiting on this story to finish.
Is there any problem with him finishing it with someone else? Any ending would do for me at this point.
Brandon Sanderson has some experience with finishing other autors story. i think he should be a good candidate.
Maybe you should use a ghost writer. Or a spell checker...
Patrick Rothfuss is a crook who swindled his fans during his fundraiser last year. That, and with over 10 years of constant snark from him means I won't even touch book 3 should it ever release. (Which it won't.)
@cedar.summit
Considering that many significant characters in books one and two weren't in the first draft, adding them to book three would be kinda important.
Same I’ll just read a wiki or Reddit summary
I am a huge fan of book 1&2 but i also refuse to reward him by buying his crappy novellas when he should have been working on the third book.
It's never coming out. Rothfuss has abandoned the series he just hasn't admitted it to us yet
Sad but true
Funny timing since I just bought the first book last week. 😂
Worth reading it.
Yeah, it's a real shame we probably won't get to read the ending but strangely enough, I do think both books are still worth reading.
Read slowly.
You poor soul. Welcome to purgatory.
Read it, its worth it
Yeah, im over him. If the book ever came out, I'd still buy it. But as for the author, I just can't respect it.
Rothfuss is the author I dislike the most because I once loved him more than anyone else.
I just want it to be good whenever it does. We should trust them and judge after
Even if we have to wait another decade?
When are you going to talk about Sanderson's Mistborn movie/ tv series that being made ?
This is the thing to be excited about.
Personally, I think Rothfuss is way better than Sanderson, but the man can finish a book alright 😄 Dude just can't stop writing.
@@dumplingdepinto I think it's a matter of taste. Sanderson has a Prose that is to the point, not to fancy pants with the words overall. Rothless....man the guy has a very beautiful way with words in his prose.
But I also really....kinda hated Name of the Wind. But that's just me.
You're right tho, Sanderson is a goddamn MACHINE. Dude wrote four secret books on top of his normal writing schedule output. And there is a consistent schedule for all of his series coming out. I just respect him a lot.
@@YungGokuOver Yeah, definitely a matter of taste 👍🏼 And Sanderson's prolificness is truly admirable.
I personally loved both books but I give Stormlight Archive, by BS the topspot. Such a beast of a book
@@BreeZieDoesiT hopefully they don't white wash stormlight archive and cast either pakistan or Kashmir men or even middle eastern men. Don't trust the white and chinese people who have the rights to the property though
LOL It's surreal that someone finally made a video on this. Every few months I remember this series and look it up to see if the next book was finished yet. It's been more than 10 years. That alone tells you how GOOD the series actually is. I wish Rothfuss well, and hope he gets over whatever it is he's going through. We can wait a while longer.
This how you fumble a bag 😂😂😂😂
Appreciate the warnings. I was going to start this trilogy but without a finish I’m relieved not to spend my time and money.
Waiting 😢
They dont owe it to us but it certainly will make me put reading the series on hold untill the series is finished even if i am 80 hears old by then 👍
Good for you. I am not that patient and Pat will be long gone when you are 80
I get it. Im tired of waiting for third book too. But still an excellent read.
I had absolutely no idea you could pronounce Kvothe so horribly wrong
At this point I would need to reread the old books
Just make sure the third is better than the second
No rush anymore
To be fair, Christians have been waiting for the final book over 2000 years.
Lol there's some disagreements among the fan base. Some consider Book of Morman to be the final book of the trilogy. But lots of fans really hated it and don't consider it cannon
What final book
I don't want ant kingkiller chorincle untill he finish the damn series because the series is so good which mean if the adaptation became famous the network will milk weather the fans agree or not so the best thing is waiting untill Rothfuss remember he have a series to finish but i would love if they adapted mistborn or other completed fantasy
Yeah, Kote made The Chronicler wait three days for his entire story. If anything this gives us is the fact that Pat is similar, he will tell the story when he thinks it's complete and worth showing.
12 years. TWELVE YEARS
My son was born within months of Wise man’s fear. He is almost finished his first year of high school. Every year when his birthday comes around I am reminded of the excruciating wait for another book
Rothfuss is a con man at this point. Geez get a ghost writer to finish the series, cause clearly Pat isn’t going to ever do it
The third book is not a happy ending where kvothe opens the box and goes back adventuring and works everything out with denna and stops the war and the scrael.
He made an announcement that he was leaving to join a gay nudist colony and he would rather live there than write books
I dont really know but the issue is probably the money, as in he gets a successful book or 2 and then just stopped thinking about it
You would never guess he was a fantasy author to look at him.
One thing I've learned recently is don't trust fat old beardy men who write popular fantasy sagas...
So the secret is to shave and be skinny? Makes sense why Stephen King is so prolific..
name of the wind is possibly my favourite book, but I wont be buying the doors of stone new, because I dont want to give him my money, its unlikely to released anyway, he literally lied to fans and took a ton of money from his publisher and ended up actually hurting the publishing company.
I picked up on that too. Irritating to hear it pronounced the incorrect way
when a huge ass channel like Looper that predominantly does everythings happy upbeat "hidden meanings in star wars!" type videos starts complaining bout ur lack of organisation, credibility and third book u know uve screwed up lmao
Maybe we can get Annie Wilkes to help him finish the book?
The movie split the last book into two parts, but Rowling's 7th HP book was just one book
@@scottkingston oh yea, I forget that, lol
If it ever does come out I’m pirating it out of spite.
Nah his second book was a mess. Third will be a mess if it ever sees the light of day. Rothfuss is a hack now
He knows it's going to be his last successful book, so he's gonna drag it out until he needs more money.
I don't even remember what happened in the first two books and i wont read the third even if it comes out, which i doubt.
former author Pat Rothfuss
He can't finish it. He has too many knots to get untied in one book.
Holy hell! Miranda wanted to make a tv seriese of this. That would have been the woke of woke and would have been a finacial disaster.
I refuse to even support book 3 if it ever even does come out
