Matt Campbell you should check out royal blood, i thought they were with 4 or something, but they are also only with 2 and make sort of the same music, you might like it
+Gina Gutierrez Exactly!! It's soo hard to find a band that plays good music in the studio but also delivers the same quality live. This duo just kicks soo much ass, breath of fresh air!
Really not that hard to find good live bands. Most rock groups from the 60s and 70s were insane live. Improvising entire new tracks live, with insane chemistry and musicianship. You must be used to seeing shitty pop stars live or something, it's the only explanation I can think of.
Apollo Alexandre I agree totally. I’ve seen lots and lots of bands live and in my experience most of them sounded amazing live such as Phoenix, Radiohead, Bombay bicycle club, RHCP, Rolling Stones etc... I see this type of comment a lot but I don’t know why...
@wolfpacguy as s\a die hard stripes fan before I discovered the keys i gotta say jack white is full of shit, the only thing they have in common is being a 2 piece. the sound between the two are so different
not to be a downer, I'm a big fan of these guys, but their live act is actually not anything too great. They play EXACTLY how it is on album, their shows never go longer than an hour. pretty disappointing actually. Jack White on the other hand...wow his live shows blow the Black Keys out of the water. Seriously no comparison, he is on a different level
AvG Venom wow. thats pretty shocking to me, seen them 4 times all been very short. Figured it's their hometown, may as well rock out. Jack White played I think the longest set of his life... 3 1/2 hours at Chicago Theatre and I was there:) both some of my favorite bands
how can they play exactly like their albums when their studio tracks usually have 2 or 3 guitar tracks.going at once plus other stuff, the studio ver of this song for instance has soft bass drones, a big backwards guitar solo and an outro with 3 guitars plus backing vocals throughout, there might even be a touch of synth but I've got really crap headphones on right now but you get the gist. If you're a fan of the Keys and Stripes check out a band called Black Pistol Fire they've got some delicious fuzzy riffidge I recently found em though they're quite popular already, also the youtube channel ''get your music noticed'' has some great undiscovered peeps :o)
Sam Lee They include 3 other people to play with them ( I think the Greenhornes?) which is kinda weird since they aren't part of the black keys. they'll do all the additional tracks / layers
Man, i got a tonne of respect for Carney. He may only be an average drummer when it comes to technique, but man does he make up for it by whacking the shit out of his kit. Just look at that guy go.
This song right here is the best example of authentic rock and roll in a hot minute. I do not give a shit how many years ago this performance was. This is live and in your face gritty heavy nasty rock and roll as it should be. I deeply hope generations appreciate what this is
Best part for me right at the beginning when Carney smashes the ride and kicks in just a bit after Auerbach starts the riff. Magic. For me the best track of all their great songs. Love these guys.
that bluesy vibe...but they still got it. I guess they need to try new sounds..if you like them I recommend you Red Can "Sunday Night Duel". Guitars fueling. Glad I found them
When I bumped into this I realized immediately this is what I been looking for for years! Happy days with many amazing song from them ever since. And most people haven't got a fucking clue they are even exist smh
Watched Letterman since 11years old in late 80's. I've never seen anybody tear it the f**k up like that on his show. Letterman genuinely loved that sh*t.
At 2:40 Dan is propelled forward by the unrefined awesomeness of the gritty, potent music at such a speed that the camera cannot keep up with him. This is so good. I wish I could give them both hugs.
I played the game rock smith and heard this song on the game. I had to find out more. I RUclipsd it and got this and it began my journey to absolutely love this band. They just blew my mind
I used to cover this song back in high school! What a great band. I love the simplicity behind this awesome song. It is heavy! I dig this so much to this day. Thank you Black Keys !! 🔥✌🏽
Well they listened to the fans. The fans wanted more grit, so they made Magic Potion. People hated Magic Potion, so they went more produced. People hated Attack & Release. So they split for a year, then got back together. Made Brothers. People only seemed to like Tighten Up. They made an entire album of full of Tighten Up. People loved it. Then Dan got a divorce, so then came Turn Blue. Really it's the people's sand his old wife's fault for the change of sound. So shut up.
Awesome!! So soulful, the Black Keys remind me so much of the fantastic bands of the late 70's up to the 90's, Pink Floyd, Derek and the Domino's, etc...love this!!
Great band. Anyone in disagreement should try writing music that equals their energy and vibe.. (and you can't) ... just because someone can play better technically doesn't make them a better act. It's only one part of the equation. These guys rule..
dude what are you talkin bout, this is barely a song..its totally cliche not a blues rock original w as much originality as the greats. Totally cliche..and not ability to solo or play anything on gtr or drums./Totally canned and boring. Fake vibe
the problem, is no that its not not technical playing as you point out. The issue is its total flat boring, Check out Your Gonna Groove Albert Hal Zep thats ins cindery, and pushes the blues structure ahead, While this is am,amateur musicians playing in the temp layer of w Good Fuzz Pedals but aiint blues rock serious players. There is a reason why the riff of Manic Depression, Satisfaction, ands Smoke on the Water is highly influential and in our psyche ...its because it musically BETTER. It isn't any more technical, it shows however, creative genius that the BK will never have
Greg Merritt yes i do and its more realized than this. The blues formats are richer and to a higher standard and the players are better. This is a tired blues format, and after 10 sec the song fails to go anywhere different. Thats not how it used to be man
not one blues lick except he same open E riff he plays in all the songs. Its like watching a stuffy intermediate Guitar center DVD,. No dynamic to the playing. Its not awful just totally forgettable. Just good tone. Again this song is a rip off and lesser version of The Mover by Free. Compare Free too this band. While the BK have the right to play their instruments , the members of Free were born too and it shows . You'd have to play guitar and well to know the differences or been exposed to it as a listener. THis band is majorly hyped and its kids hyping it.
Patrick carney is a helluva solid drummer, in a JRE podcast Dan said it feels weird playing with people other than Patrick. Their musical chemistry is astounding
Este ritmo me taladra el cerebro. Como dos personas pueden liarla parda? No hay q ver más que el vídeo. Puro talento. Y encima el batería cuando llevaba las gafas de Mortadelo. Son pa morí. Grandes the black Keys.
How dare you infer that MMMBop is on the same level as this up here in the Great White North! You should feel ashamed for saying such a horrible thing! Sorry for the outburst. No hard feelings eh?
Steve Shaha I agree, but just cause you find something artificial doesn't mean it has no meaning or substance to somebody else. So it's not artificial to everybody. Idk your musical background, but The Black Keys use so many pop elements in their music. Especially on El Camino.
+Taylor Harper that is less because they have actually submitted themselves to a pop aesthetic than it is just because at the inception of the early style that the Black Keys are inspired by, rock n' roll was developed as a flashy version of the blues by Chuck Berry and other african american originators to make the blues sound of the black south more marketable to white audiences. Obviously there was still a large race gap in american culture that was not completely eradicated by the jazz period of the early 1900's, and so in fact rock and roll is most definitely the origin of the pop that you're referring to. when you say "pop elements" also, I am slightly unclear how you intend that, because if you understand how the style that the black keys use is built of making crappy instruments sound like a million bucks, then likely the only reason you yourself think it doesn't sound polished is because you don't like it, and therefore can't appreciate it. many of your pop icons would never be caught having to arbitrarily do a concert, because many of them buy their production value, instead of relying on actual talent.
One of my favorite past times is finding RUclips comment threads with jealous drummers hating on Pat and reminding them they’ll never be him. 🤣😂🤣 You could have all the chops in the world but sometimes a band is greater than the sum of its parts. Ask Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.
Thiz band juzt getz it , wen it comez ta writing and playin ass kickin bluez...firzt errd of em wen howlin for you song video inna movie came out..yeaah , bout almozt a decade after there start....went out and got the magic potion and brothers cdz...unreal, i was blown away by those 2 cds...from firzt song ta last song on both alblumz....i didnt even ave a clue it was only 2 guyz doin all thiz...now ive listened ta chulahoma, el Camino, and other great alblumz/cdz by the black keys...im glad i found em later as ive done with some other great bands...song for song , thiz band from 2000 until now , i cant think of a band thatz written songs like theze guyz...juzt great songwriting , with some covers of the great bluezman that came before them..big fan of the black keyz..oh yeaah
Never underestimate the power of cranking your amp way louder than it needs to be and beating the absolute piss out of your drums.
'swhy they put '11' on there !
Also a cranked big muff it’s amazing. That Marshall Muff combo will fuck ppl up
Fuck yeah!
Hell yeah! You get on tv!
Fucking unreal sound, makes my hairs stand up
I'm in a hotel in Nashville right now getting ready to see these two tonight.
Hell yeah man, how was it??
Covered in poison ivy .... last midnight shift and these boys play Chicago tomorrow 🤔 wonder what elwood would think ....😎
I just saw their show last night in Grand Rapids. Modest Mouse was trippy as fuck.
Lucky bastard I wanted to go that show so bad...
Saw them last night for my birthday 21st at Barclays
god damn they make alot of noise for 2 people
octaver and fuzz pedals, blues licks and those beast-like drums, not to mention everything gets better when you play with your friends
Alonso Mendoza amen!
Matt Campbell you should check out royal blood, i thought they were with 4 or something, but they are also only with 2 and make sort of the same music, you might like it
I love royal blood but the genres are completely different. But he should definitely give them a try, they're amazing
Don't listen to Royal Blood, boring rock. Listen to '68... That's a 2 piece that changes the game.
When u sound this good live
That's an awesome band
+Gina Gutierrez Exactly!! It's soo hard to find a band that plays good music in the studio but also delivers the same quality live. This duo just kicks soo much ass, breath of fresh air!
listen divididos in live, they are from Argentina
It's actually easier with only 2 people
Really not that hard to find good live bands. Most rock groups from the 60s and 70s were insane live. Improvising entire new tracks live, with insane chemistry and musicianship. You must be used to seeing shitty pop stars live or something, it's the only explanation I can think of.

I see this type of comment a lot but I don’t know why...
Who's here in 2023. Best black keys live performance
2024 ;)
2024!
2024 and yes it's a great performance of them but you also got to see this one ruclips.net/video/JqhFNhBxKEM/видео.htmlsi=7wLHd8Jztc7NFUd2
Still feel‘n the blues in 2024
2031
The Black Keys are literally one of the most perfect bands.
@wolfpacguy Sure, if you're stupid enough to think The White Stripes own the rights to every 2-piece rock band.
@wolfpacguy i get what you’re saying but, i think black keys Made some of the best, heaviest, rawest blues albums. No doubt about that
The white strips literally copied the Flat Duo Jets. Jack White even said so in an interview.
@wolfpacguy as s\a die hard stripes fan before I discovered the keys i gotta say jack white is full of shit, the only thing they have in common is being a 2 piece. the sound between the two are so different
It only matters who copied whom if the courts are involved.
I think this sounds even better live. So badass.
every riff that man writes is just so soulful.... badass
so much energy....through a computer screen...i fucking love this band
What I like about them is that their music sounds just as good as the album version when they do it live.
not to be a downer, I'm a big fan of these guys, but their live act is actually not anything too great. They play EXACTLY how it is on album, their shows never go longer than an hour. pretty disappointing actually. Jack White on the other hand...wow his live shows blow the Black Keys out of the water. Seriously no comparison, he is on a different level
Corey Katz wrong, haha, when i saw them in nashville, they played a good 2 and a half hours
AvG Venom wow. thats pretty shocking to me, seen them 4 times all been very short. Figured it's their hometown, may as well rock out. Jack White played I think the longest set of his life... 3 1/2 hours at Chicago Theatre and I was there:) both some of my favorite bands
how can they play exactly like their albums when their studio tracks usually have 2 or 3 guitar tracks.going at once plus other stuff,
the studio ver of this song for instance has soft bass drones, a big backwards guitar solo and an outro with 3 guitars plus backing vocals throughout, there might even be a touch of synth but I've got really crap headphones on right now but you get the gist.
The feedback Dan gets before that last chord is SO perfect. He doesn't get enough credit as a guitar player i swear...
hello from the future...neither does Meg White as a drummer
Just crawled out from under my rock to find the Black keys! 2015 now and i just now heard them for the first time. This is good stuff!
your touch
all hands against his own
heavy soul
im not the one
have mercy on me
;)
I heard them on the radio and looked them up right now ha
Do you have a favorite album yet?
shurtugal81 If you like rock side of them, Attack & Release is awesome so is El Camino. If you like the song side, listen to Brothers! Cheers
If you like blues, rubber factory is by far the best album, from first song to last its purely epic
I just had 4 black, hip-hop loving friends of mine headbanging for 4 minutes. No one can deny how raw these guys are. Truly one of a kind.
Ooga Booga
They pretty much sound exactly like Jimmy Hendrix.
@@Chasecka Alright that's just objectively not true lmao.
Because these two white guys play with so much soul. 🙌🏼
HOLY FUCK, THEY ARE GOOD TOGETHER MAN, LOVE THE BLACK KEYS...
how can you question the state that made funk?we the truth big bro
Love that riff..sounds like motorcycles, danger and beautiful women, old jean jakets and whiskey!! Yeah!!
This was the song that got me hooked.. I don't care what people say Pat Carney is smashing that sh@it like a BOSS.
He used to do better though, people always want the best.
Man, i got a tonne of respect for Carney. He may only be an average drummer when it comes to technique, but man does he make up for it by whacking the shit out of his kit. Just look at that guy go.
That's why we can call him Superman behind the drums
This song right here is the best example of authentic rock and roll in a hot minute. I do not give a shit how many years ago this performance was. This is live and in your face gritty heavy nasty rock and roll as it should be. I deeply hope generations appreciate what this is
These two are way underestimated.
If someone could take them back to the 90`s, today they would had the planet keys.
+Eqoualizer ahahah!!! so true! they're my planet keys indeed!
70s more
if you like them I recommend you Red Can "Sunday Night Duel". Guitars fueling. Glad I found them
Underestimated? Haven’t they won six or seven. Grammy’s?
Those planet keys colours must be black
You can tell when Letterman really loves a band. F'n awesome!
"How about that, Paul?!"
Attack drums with extreme prejudice!
Whip 'em like they were damned!
that's an amazing name for a band
i always come back to this amazing performance every day
That solo was so sexy
Greatest live performance of the song. They were rockin their hearts out!
These two guys are keeping rock n roll alive.
I remember since I was a little kid my dad would always play Black Keys in the car. Ever since I’ve always been a fan and loved the black keys.
if you like them I recommend you Red Can "Sunday Night Duel". Guitars fueling. Glad I found them
Now go and get into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
🤴 +🦎 + 🧙♂️
This is one of the best live performances of all time. Come at me
You should check Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East in 1971...
I've seen this live so many times but it's just so good ! BLACK KEYS FOR LIFE !
Incredible Song.....Thank you so much Black Keys....
that is some deep blues
This was the performance that introduced me to The Black Keys years ago. I'm hooked and have been since.
He looks like the caddy from happy Gilmore hahahaha
you totally nailed that man
+John Weigel 🐊🏌
Jajajajaja
awwww leave him alone hes just trying to make some money
😂
Best part for me right at the beginning when Carney smashes the ride and kicks in just a bit after Auerbach starts the riff. Magic. For me the best track of all their great songs. Love these guys.
GOOD GAWD!!!! The Power of these SOBs. Still Truckin' to this day!
I can dig that crunchy groove, man.
Crunchy as a whole damned case of Doritos, son.
snidelywhiplash wheaty
One of my favorite performances of theirs ;)
This was my favorite black keys era.
December 2019... listened to them since the beginning, and I miss this sound. Wish it could come back to just them two.
that bluesy vibe...but they still got it. I guess they need to try new sounds..if you like them I recommend you Red Can "Sunday Night Duel". Guitars fueling. Glad I found them
Proof that less really is more and you can a lot with only 2 instruments!!! I love these guys!! One of my favorite groups today!!!
Thank you Rocksmith, much love.
They need to go back to this sound
You said it best brother
New album resembles the Brothers album a lot. Coming this June.
You got your wish buddy boy, eagle birds are flying high
new album is good / kinda sounds like this
if you like them I recommend you Red Can "Sunday Night Duel". Guitars fueling. Glad I found them
When I bumped into this I realized immediately this is what I been looking for for years! Happy days with many amazing song from them ever since. And most people haven't got a fucking clue they are even exist smh
Please tell me we’re still here watching this video..
Yeeeee man
Yeahhhh
We are still here
Yes Sir...nothing changed
Taking a gander rite now.......3 years AFTER your comment. Fuck yes
Watched Letterman since 11years old in late 80's. I've never seen anybody tear it the f**k up like that on his show. Letterman genuinely loved that sh*t.
Back in the days when Dan looked homeless...
ThatDuck he does look like the caddy in Happy Gilmore
I miss his beard and long hair
+Dogma427 Me too buddy. Me too.
Lol i liked that looked.. it fit the band
He was only homeless because he brought the house down *badum tst*
I fell in love with this song so DEEPLY !!!
Man what a solo!! 2:00
So much power. One of my favorite live performances of them.
Lot of soul in this performance.
Long live the Black Keys! #1 band on my list of live shows I gotta see before I kick the bucket. When they play it’s pure magic.
This is actually the best performance ever made in a TV talk show in my opinion...
check out The Mars Volta on the same show.
Or mutemath
Give a listen to wolf like me by TV on the radio on this show. You won't regret it.
Queens of the stone age did some pretty epic shit on Letterman a few times.
Dylan with the Plugz is tough to beat
This song is pure rock at its absolute finest.
when you got 2 dudes full of soul that's all you need
I'm crying. This is so great!!!!!!
At 2:40 Dan is propelled forward by the unrefined awesomeness of the gritty, potent music at such a speed that the camera cannot keep up with him. This is so good. I wish I could give them both hugs.
This goes hard everytime I go back to it 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Their music is always better live, such a raw sound.
I played the game rock smith and heard this song on the game. I had to find out more. I RUclipsd it and got this and it began my journey to absolutely love this band. They just blew my mind
Paul's "unbelievable" at the end really makes it haha
I used to cover this song back in high school! What a great band. I love the simplicity behind this awesome song. It is heavy! I dig this so much to this day. Thank you Black Keys !! 🔥✌🏽
The good black keys
***** i agree..... what happened?
+RegalTipDrummer they did a mental 180. can't understand how can go from so good to so bad
+pennydesouza Literally all of you just stfu
Well they listened to the fans. The fans wanted more grit, so they made Magic Potion. People hated Magic Potion, so they went more produced. People hated Attack & Release. They're still great. I prefer this era, but they evolved.
If you want to see a band that actually turned to shit, look at KoL.
Came back to see this. Yep, still mind blowing.
Do you think he got his?
well, I got mine, so.......
Brandon Gee oh yeah
John Doe woooosh
😂
Not sure bro
Awesome!! So soulful, the Black Keys remind me so much of the fantastic bands of the late 70's up to the 90's, Pink Floyd, Derek and the Domino's, etc...love this!!

Black Keys are amazing
I want to jam with that drummer
Same
Fun fact....
He is the composer of the theme tune to bojack horseman...patrick Carney is a legend...
Patrick carney is a helluva solid drummer, in a JRE podcast Dan said it feels weird playing with people other than Patrick. Their musical chemistry is astounding
Incredible! And it’s just two guys making a beautiful noise!
damn... i call that skills... who need 2 more... well in this band, they already nailed it.. nice.. its real rock n roll once again
Este ritmo me taladra el cerebro. Como dos personas pueden liarla parda? No hay q ver más que el vídeo. Puro talento. Y encima el batería cuando llevaba las gafas de Mortadelo. Son pa morí. Grandes the black Keys.
I think the Black Keys are popular in Canada in part because the drummer resembles the Hanson brothers.
How dare you infer that MMMBop is on the same level as this up here in the Great White North! You should feel ashamed for saying such a horrible thing!
Sorry for the outburst. No hard feelings eh?
Exactly...Slapshot....Hanson brothers..glad someone got it
Drew Gaughan Great White North? More like the Great Red North.
XxStonedKillerxX In Soviet Canuckistan, Health Care is paid by everyone!
Drew Gaughan lol Great Red North. Sounds like we have a Tea Party Patriot!
This performance will forever remain legendary
THE GOOD OLD BLACK KEYS!!!
I wish I heard of these guys a long time ago. Love it and I am 60 years old
giant cd format!!
It's awesome how these two guys, a drummer and a lead singer with his guitar can sound like that, brilliant :D
Now THIS is music. How do plastic Pop Stars have any listeners when there is great stuff like this out there?! It's disturbing.
+Steve Shaha AMEN BROTHER!
+Steve Shaha Cause people have different tastes, some people like a really polished sound, some people like raw stuff.
Taylor Harper With all due respect, polished and artificial are two very different things.
What a live song. Legendary.
'You're nobody until you play on letterman'' --Dan Auerbach
How many times have they played on letterman now?
I can’t believe it took me this many years to discover this song!
This song is easy to play on guitar but sounds so good. One of the best bands in the world.
it's hard, when singing and playing this riffs
Love the live sound they got here -- fooking raw and beautiful.
Simpler times, back when the black keys made good music
What do you need more than drums, guitar and vocals - this performance is "der Hammer!"
I love how effusive Dave gets, as opposed to just having on a musical guest on and thanking them formally.
Never get tired of them Black keys
One of my favorite past times is finding RUclips comment threads with jealous drummers hating on Pat and reminding them they’ll never be him. 🤣😂🤣 You could have all the chops in the world but sometimes a band is greater than the sum of its parts. Ask Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.
This is my fav live performance by them, they were young & not sold out!!💿
Обожаю их!!!
Crazy good
I love them, they remind me of some happier times
Sounds like the Riff from Jimi Hendrix Manic Depression. So good
Just AWESOME !!! Badass Blues Rock !!!
"I CRAVE SALTY FOODS." lol at 4:08
Can’t wait to see these guys again live..they truly rip like no other band around today
Dave: That’s what I’m talkin about!
I salute you good sir -
Was starting to think that I was the only one almost (for me) a decade later still going back to this performance
Love the young black keys!
I love these guys, I love these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank God!!!!
At the end: "I crave salty foods!"
no shit!
This is truly A DYNAMIC DUO!!!! Damn they have it going on!!!
