Think in the early days he was trying to emulate his heroes. Over the years as they developed their own sound, Dan adjusted his voice to what most likely is his real natural singing voice.

Nils I saw them during the Turn Blue tour and I think there was only the two of them and a keyboard player when they came to Calgary.
Nils I saw them during the Brothers tour and most of the show was still just two man then.
