That's fantastic! Exactly doing these projects got me into knife making. I scattered the flemarkets for some old knives, de-rusted and polished them, and made a new handle! I love it that how you did not change the vintage look. Awesome! Edit: and of course your videos were also a big reason i finally decided to set up my own workshop. So thanks for inspiring people and for the always good content! 👍
Very interesting pattern... looks like something that one would have as their "only" knife... for butchering game, to cooking it up, as well as everyday tasks ;)
Yes they would! I didn't know where I was going with this one to be honest :) Only after starting to work on it I decided to make it into a more "conservative" restoration.
Please DON'T drill a knife without proper clamping. A famous brasilian knife maker died years ago doing this. Yes he was using a thick leather apron. I can't stand loosing more talented inspirstions.
I love that you added an offset to the handle to account for the wear in the old blade, and still stayed true to the original shape of the knife. Good stuff.
Instead of closing the old holes and drilling new ones, I'd have cut away some of the blade to make the recurce disappear and the tang longer so it can run the entire length of the handle. Would result in a smaller but better-handling knife.
You need to "DRESS" that Naniwa // Chosera stone with a lapping stone to flatten it out ASAP buddy. It may be subjectively acceptable to leave a blade like that, but the stone? Performs as AWEFUL as it looks.
If you can get your hands on it, 30% concentrated phosphoric acid is AMAZING for cleaning up rusty old knives! I just put some on a paper towel and the rust wipes right off, in under a minute. I got mine from a friend who's in the professional kitchen deep cleaning business. They use the stuff as lime scale cleaner. Don't forget nitrile gloves and safety glasses, though. Phosphoric acid is quite corrosive. And don't forget to neutralize with baking soda after cleaning.
This wasn't a complete restoration. You cleaned it, sharpened it, and replaced the handle. The blade still looks like crap. Even if you didn't want a mirror finish, you should have at least sanded it.
What do you think a restoration is? Edit: you edited your comment to say "it wasn't a complete restoration" instead of "it wasn't a restoration." You could've just clarified that in another comment instead of trying to obfuscate. And I would also argue that your definition of a restoration is arbitrary and yes he could've done more, but it doesn't matter because he still technically restored it. The sanding/polishing of the final product isn't what completely constitutes a restoration; it's the work put into it to make it resemble what it once was, perfect or not.
Kind of stating the obvious mate. He didn’t call the video « Restoration wizard turns old knife into completely different knife » he did what the video title said he’d do.
@@Prokilla2008 How the hell is sanding the blade to give it some kind of finish magic or changing it into a completely different knife? The blade is unfinished FFS.

I would have expected more work on the blade itself than on the handle.
Good job never the less.
Thank you!!
Absolutely crap job !!!!!!!!

Only a true master can make it look so easy!!! Well done sir!!! The Old Army Scout…
Thank you so much for not mirror-polishing the blade and leaving it rather rough. Turned out great!
😍😍
Why did you close the old rivet holes when you were glueing the new handle on, wouldn't the old holes have helped to get a better grip for the glue?
Yes they would! I didn't know where I was going with this one to be honest :) Only after starting to work on it I decided to make it into a more "conservative" restoration.
@@BlackBeardProjects It looks super nice, it reminds me of old Japanese katanas, they sometimes did the same.
Excellent Job

name?
The knife looks good, but personally I think the handle looks goofy. It may be better in all other areas but I can't understand that shape.
😍😍
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
😍😍
I love the result. I would have been tempted to use a darker wood for the sandwiched piece but I still love the result
😍😍

Its great to see your first restoration again in a few years! Love the videos man. Keep it up!

What was the reason for moving the holes?
Just centering them better in the handle.
Is it known who was the manufacturer of this knife or the blade? Did you find any markings?
Strange looking blade and handle and you fixed it!! 🤙😺
Restaurada faca 🔪😉
The product result looks beautiful 😍😍
Very nice work !! I like the handle you made better and its very sharp as usual !! 👍👍
Appreciate the classics on this channel.

So long to wait for this latest restoration

Did u know that is more deadly as it was!!!!
That is mighty fine butcher knife.
Waaaw
To be honest, conservative restoration is my preferred restoration.
And when you’re dissembling?

Why bother plugging the holes in the tang when you can't see them anyway?
the blade still is not good. the handle work looks great.
Early on it!
Lovely restoration! I would love to see more of these conservative (as in "keeping it close to original") restorations!
😍😍
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The old one wis better then the new
You wasted your time and skill. It didn't get much better.
