Wow!!! 11 years old and has that level of artistry and tumbling skills. She is a talent you only see once in a lifetime. I'm reading her new book right now (It's not About Perfect), and she's not kidding when she talks about being advanced for her age.
"At age 11,that kind of talent...we knew we were looking at an Olympic gold Metalist here! Been following Women's gymnastics since the 1980's...Shannon is my #1 all time favorite!"💯👏♥️♥️♥️
What a cutie pie when she was a kid, Shannon Miller later in her life was one of my favorite Olympic athletes and in my opinion should still be considered the best gymnast in history. We all still love you Shannon.
More grace and artistry than any current gymnasts of today. Rather watch this than todays gym as here it is full of artistry and detail and dance. Something that went away about a decade ago from the sport and now it is awful in choreo. BRAVO to Shannon!!!
Yea….agreed w all the comments she really was the word incredible doesn’t do her justice….seeing her perform as part of the mag 7 she grew so much as a gymnast hope she kept that special spark
im sorry but to be 11 and to be able to do a round off, double layout, double back handspring into a twisting layout is simply amazing to me lol thats a difficult pass even for a higher level gymnast.
Would nice to know how she is now. Hope she is still happy and healthy. I am a former German gymnast ( much lower level) at age 54 and feel my knees and back often in all-day life..
my American HS football buddies got calcium deposits and bone spurs by age 20. early gymnastics and dance is actually a preferred first sport (teaches all kinds of things applying to other sports) but don't overdue it. your body is still growing. one injury and you're OUT.
I think maybe they meant that she did that first pass IN her Olympic routine, but not as the first pass. That was actually her second pass in Barcelona in '92, but it was in her routine
The tumbling is amazing for an 11 year old. The dance is pretty stilted, but it obviously improved as she matured. I remember watching Nadia becoming European champion at 12 with incredible tumbling and dance.
@@janetdishler3039 Have a Vancouver, BC friend that was on the National Chinese gym. team back when China was banned from the Olympics. Her family has money; she lives in an apt. Penthouse, but is almost FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE in both English and Mandarin. The focus was so extreme nothing else got wedged in when she was young.
Probably but 2005 and 1988 are two different era's of gymnastics. Not a lot of people back in the 80's at Miller's age were capable of full ins. Now a days everyone is.
OMG HOW THE HECK DID U GET THIS!!!! wow. so consistent and powerfull not as much grace as later on though. it kinda sounds like dominique or tasha comenting but in know it wouldnt be.
ralucagymnast I know your comment is from a decade ago, and I’m sure you know the answer by now but yes, he’s always been her coach from my understanding. Even when she made a comeback in the 2000 era she said she’d only come back if he coached her.
i did not skip any grades but was 11 in 7th grade! it is possible if you start kindergarten at 4. jeez. anyway, the commentator says shannon was 11 in FIFTH grade
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would kill to have been able to do that in 5TH GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whipbacks arent hard! When I was in junior high school cheerleading, I could do backhandspring/whipbacks across the entire football field....it was such fun!!! Wish our small town would have had opportunities for advanced gymnastics like they have today. I would have LOVED to have competed.❤❤❤

Awesome gymnast at a very young age! Shannon will forever be in our USA history books!
Back in 1989 not a lot of gymnasts her age were training these moves. Kim Zmeskal was a year older and she did them but that was about it.
You can already tell she was destined for greatness

Shannon was simply amazing! Love this routine!!!
What a cutie! She was so incredible, even at that young age.
She was destined for greatness, even at that age she was special
Imagine being in like what..fourth grade and having this amount of artistry and power in this sport.
Ok seriously 11 in 4th grade she’s an athlete not a moron. She should be in 6th or 7th grade
It’s 6th grade 😭
Nope, fourth its 9
It said 5th
@@eileencreasey4219 yes 11 can be around 5th to 7th
Saw her when they came to Greenville, SC on tour when she was about that age. GREAT!! And gifted.
holy crap that was impressive, an 11 year old doing double pike and double twist is crazy impressive.
Always felt bad for her. She was robbed of all around gold for someone was less talented. Still, she's so decorated and amazing.
Wow!!! What a talent!!!
My son is a gymnast and 11 now and nowhere near what she was at 11 as far as tumbling- amazing!
One of my favorite gymnast. Her, Dominique Dawes, and maybe Shawn Johnson. So many good ones though.
Yea….agreed w all the comments she really was the word incredible doesn’t do her justice….seeing her perform as part of the mag 7 she grew so much as a gymnast hope she kept that special spark
Holy 11 year old Shannon!!! My absolute favorite to watch growing up!!!
And only 4 years later she would go on to win the - I mean get robbed - of the AA gold in Barcelona ... Miller stan here!
Thanks for the new and fresh recommendations, RUclips
She is a gift to this sad world
The fact that you think that is why this world is sad.
Agreed
16 years ago, wow!
God, even back then she was a superstar.
im sorry but to be 11 and to be able to do a round off, double layout, double back handspring into a twisting layout is simply amazing to me lol thats a difficult pass even for a higher level gymnast.
She's amazing
She’s incredible
😊 Que hermosa pequeña 🌹, con la actitud de toda una profesional 👌👍🍀
I can not believe that shannon is coming to my gym on Tuesday!!!
Steve was such an amazing force. It’s a shame he was passed up for Bela.
Passed up for B? What does it mean
This is amazing!

she's a commentator for US gymnastics now!
You can still see her on her u-tube channel Shannon's Take, she gives great advise

Holy wow....at 11 she was outperforming some twice her age and experience level. Just wow.
16 YEARS AGO DAM THIS IS OLD
I love Shannon Miller, she is my favourite american gymnast!
She was amazing at 11
I saw her when she was 12 and also Dominique Dawes, too.
I was also 11 in 7th grade but turned 12 that October. I also started at age 4. I don't care how old or what grade she was in she is great!
The song is called The Jellicle Ball. It's from the musical Cats.
Spectacular!
I luv the musical that her song is from. I t's called Cats She was reallly Good!!! WEOWOW Even at age 11...
Hard to imagine how proud i'd be if my child did this.

And in other countries they are trained to live and breath sports whereas in the US our athletes go to regular school and live somewhat normal lives
@@janetdishler3039 nahh, you don't get to that level while "living a normal life". The gymnast schools in america are as tough as everywhere.

she is a jewel !!
Ya she was amazing!!!!!!!!!
I love it!
Fantastic for 11 Years old child

WOW! .. she's great
wow shes just amazing for her age i cant beleive you got this.
wow she is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay Shannon!!
That was good! 👏🏼🇨🇦
i love how 80s the music is.
That was from 1981's Cats
We love this sport!
She went on to represent USA at the 92 and 96 Olympics
omg! For 11 years old, she was incredible, but those double-back pikes were scary! She just barely sneaked them out.
She was born in 77 and this was 1988. My math says 11.
@jentrevors yes it is. Steven Nunno
incredible
The music makes me want to buy a pack of mentos
Im 11 and a 7th grader. I hav barely worked on a tuck. Im only level 5. shes awesome. Back then, that must've been true talent. go shannon.
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She actually hugs Steve in this video. As she got older she didn't seem to want to embrace him that much.
This vid is 5 years older than me💀💀
But that's besides the point. SHE DID AMAZING OML
A gymnast at my gym has this same song
AMAZING for an 11 year old
What a firecracker!!
Very, very.......... . Very nice.
I love her music what's it called?
OMG HOW THE HECK DID U GET THIS!!!! wow. so consistent and powerfull not as much grace as later on though. it kinda sounds like dominique or tasha comenting but in know it wouldnt be.
I didnt realise she had been under Steve Nunno's tutelage for such a long time! Was he her only coach from when she first started gymnastics?
ralucagymnast I know your comment is from a decade ago, and I’m sure you know the answer by now but yes, he’s always been her coach from my understanding. Even when she made a comeback in the 2000 era she said she’d only come back if he coached her.
@sixtypixies Oh my Rowling- You have no idea how much I love your comment!
i need some music for little gymnastics (7 years)
i like this song. Does anybody know it`s name?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.
She has such clean tumbling!!
her music is totally from the Nadia movie, when they are training. i loved that music, what's the name of it?
umm yeah...she is totally y favortie gymnast ever!
she was probably a very high level, I would say 9 bc of the double layout, but I'm only a level 5 gymnast (on my bf's account)
I remember when she was America's DARLING
If I'm not mistaken, I think that it is Tracy Talavera doing the commentary.
Chick is the Hermione Granger of tumbling.
WOW!!!
@turnfloh1984 Something from the Broadway musical Cats...
@TheHorseyGymnast Back then? If I saw an 11 year old perform like that now I would probably be in disbelief :-P.
EXCUSE ME! Is she in the Olympics?!? I’m in level four and I’m ten! That’s amazing!
Wow trop belle 🥰
i did not skip any grades but was 11 in 7th grade! it is possible if you start kindergarten at 4. jeez. anyway, the commentator says shannon was 11 in FIFTH grade
wt i found this of 16 years ago i didnt even born
At 11, I cant even do a split...
She could actually do a full in at this age but Nunno rarely had her compete it.
Plus 5 for using music from "Cats"!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would kill to have been able to do that in 5TH GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG Wow!
I'm guessing a full twisting BHS step out?
At her age, I thought I was the shit for doing a backhand spring
holy shit i cant believe she did this at 11! go shannon! XD
It explains why just three years later she was an Olympic champion. (And she WAS the true Olympic champion of Barcelona. Gutsu robbed her gold).
Whipbacks arent hard! When I was in junior high school cheerleading, I could do backhandspring/whipbacks across the entire football field....it was such fun!!! Wish our small town would have had opportunities for advanced gymnastics like they have today. I would have LOVED to have competed.❤❤❤
