      OMG! Shannon was NOT powerful!!!! She competed a double layout ONCE (96 nat) and it was SEVERELY PIKED!!!! Thats not powerful!!!! I love Shannon too, but she was NOT POWERFUL! She was a beautiful and graceful gymnast with great technique, STUNNING visually, and a FIERCE COMPETITOR!!!! Your comment is like saying “when Simone does floor,OMG I feel the music and I feel like I’m at the Russian Ballet”... LMFGAO! Simone has no artistry, grace, or dance on floor. But we still love them.

      @@kendrahwhyte9960 I would not use the word grotesque LOL, it’s just a different body type. I always hated when people would say that her Khorkina Look ugly when she did her yurchenko half on One and a half vault, hello she’s just a skinny person so regardless of how she does the vault she’s going to look lanky. Simone has powerful legs and those thunder thighs have made her the queen of gymnastics of all time. She has amazing form, and that power is breathtaking. When you see her charging down that runway on the vault, it’s the equivalent of a Greek God on a chariot! Both their bodies are beautiful, I love gymnast of every shape and size. Seeing human beings manipulate their bodies and gravity at an elite level is magic

      @@2010hotmale2010 regardless of her struggling on ONE move (double layout on floor) the POINT is Shannon displayed a beauty with her gymnastics that does not exist in todays women’s gymnastics. She may not have been the most powerful but she definitely was a top athlete and had the perfect balance of artistry and athleticism which was the point of the original poster. Simone is all power but no beauty which is the trend of gymnastics today vs the 90’s early 2000’s era.

    Are you guys really judging her SIZE? Look at her! She's not more than 120 pounds here, and she's fully grown. She was 19 in '96, still with room for a growth spurt. She is all muscle. And if she did fill out, she's still a better athlete than probably

    • @2010hotmale2010
      @2010hotmale2010 3 года назад +4

      I honestly think it’s because the bars were wider apart so more speed and power could be generated. And then she grew so she had an adult body so the bars would move more with her as opposed to this little skinny girl relying totally on technique (kind of like those really small Chinese girls who just don’t weigh that much, so they can only hit the springboard on the vault so hard, but regardless will not fly like a more built heavier athlete)

    • @ericaswenson1034
      @ericaswenson1034 2 года назад +3

      I agree that Miller's bar routine in this competition was the best it had ever been, but I honestly think that overall, she was in her peak form in 1992. All her performances in the Barcelona Olympic Games were fluid and nearly flawless and she medalled in every event but the vault. Her youth, very small size, and tireless energy gave her a clear advantage over many of the world's best there.
      Unfortunately, Miller's growth spurt and injuries began to catch up with her four years later and the difference really showed in the 1996 Games. Despite winning gold in the team finals and on beam in Atlanta, both her vault and floor performances suffered greatly in the all-around competition. By the 2000 Trials, she was in such bad shape that her only high score was on bars, and the team, already with many strong bar workers, did not even need her here anymore. Even on beam, once the event that had made her famous, her routine was now watered down and her score low despite a nearly solid performance.
      Although I greatly respected and admired Miller, her withdrawal from the 2000 Trials was actually a blessing in disguise. Not only was she in poor bodily condition but no longer even possessed the mental fitness to handle a third Olympics. The all-around competition in Sydney was catastrophic, with the vault set too low and many girls falling and then botching other events. Had Miller made the team, not only might she not have made a difference but might also have gotten badly hurt either physically or psychologically. She had already proven herself by picking up a total of seven medals between two Olympic Games, and so 2000 was her time to bow out gracefully. Miller has always been a legend in the athletic world in my eyes and always will be.

      @@maria_haarajoki I remember her performance in the Barcelona Olympics. She took home two silver medals: in the All-around and on beam; and three bronze medals: in the team final, on bars, and on floor. Yes, I agree with you that she was phenomenal in the sport of gymnastics, one of the world's best. I also find it amazing that she is an ovarian cancer survivor.

      @@ericaswenson1034 Miller would not have been competing in the All Around finals in Sydney so the vault thing would not have been a worry at all for her. It was only set wrong for the All Around, which she would not have been in, in the first place. I would have liked to have seen her make the team, even as a token bit contributer. The team did win a bronze in the end, which they likely still get with her, so she would have gotten a medal in a 3rd Olympics too now which would have been nice for her.

      The only event she could help the team is beam. Vault and floor she wouldn't have even been used, and bars they already counted 4 9.7+ scores. So beam is the only place she could help, and she would have needed to improve a lot from Olympic Trials where a hit beam routine by her still scored only in the 9.2s.

    • @Brenttyboy
      @Brenttyboy 9 лет назад +2

      +Richard Carnegie NO :( Unfortunately that is also a no. Steve Nunno is a really confused individual. That situation reared it's head at this same competition (2000 US Olympic Trials). She performed the oak tree (back dive 1/4 to HS) and the "miller" (oak tree 1/2 pirouette to split hold) and received the same value for both, cancelling the "Miller" hence the low SV on beam. I think in the 93-96 code, it was considered a variation of the Omelianchik, so it was credited as a diff. skill, but from 00 onward, the turn has to be completed before HS landing. No Miller on beam, or ever was.
      She did have the cast to HS 1.5 pirouette to mixed grip that was named after her (1994), since they've alot of the variations of pirouettes, they removed her name, so no Miller, Dawes, Kim, Chow, Khorkina... Regardless, the skill she used to have named after her is still a D, I recall seeing it as late as 2001 (Raducan? other Romanians?).
