The endless amount of time Shannon had to wait, all the instructions Nunno kept giving her, the nodding :-), the Romanians standing at the end of the runway watching, and then that vault. @ersatzproductions753 6 лет назад +3

      211jump actually you don't really need to have amazing height on a vault to be able to stick it. As long as you have enough rotation you can probably squeeze it around, like Shannon did here, though in my opinion, while she wasn't a very powerful gymnast, she got a pretty good block off the vault here.

      @intldawn 5 лет назад +2

      kamila Ford There are none. She was robbed. Was it the most powerful yurchenko full out there? No. But there’s nothing technically deficient about this vault. She had super height and distance, unlike Gustu, whose vault went more straight up and down. And she had better form than any of her competitors outside of Bogi. Perfect form. None of the Romanians and most of the Soviets could match that. And the landing. Total control. If that’s not a 10, what would be?

    yes this was a robbery. remember what led up to this. Tatiana Gutsu the eventual AA 92 Olympic champion, should not have even been in the AA. She fell off beam during the team comp, that qualified the gymnasts for the AA. Rosa Gallieva (sp) was supposed to be in the AA. The Unified team knew their best chance for Gold was Tatiana. Rosa (mysteriously) got sick and was replaced by Tatiana. (It was later revealed Rosa wasn't sick at all) Even with the switchero, Shannon should have taken the 92 AA Olympic gold. It reminds IMHO one of the biggest robberies ever in gymnastics!

    In my opinion, Shannon Miller was the GREATEST Olympic gymnast of all time. Simone Biles may have some powerful tumbling skills, but she lacks the beauty, the precision, the exquisite grace and elegance, and the cleanness of Shannon Miller. After all, isn't this sport called ARTISTIC Gymnastics?!!

    Watching this during the 1992 Olympics was the best "finale" ever! I definitely think the first vault should have been a 10 and she should have won the AA- because I love my country and it would have been great to see! But I think the silver definitely gave her drive to continue to be an amazing gymnast for 1996. She was so special in 1992 because she was so understated. My whole family was cheering with Steve Nuno! It was great that he was in another country cheering like that! Love it!

    Shannon Miller should have had a 10 on the first vault a 99.75 come on seriously she was robbed that year I wish the Olympics could Appel on this because gutsu shouldn't haven't gotten gold I'm sorry just wrong.

      Shannon also did not deserve her 9.925 on beam and 9.9 on floor, both which should have been a 9.85 at best. She had 2 balance breaks on beam the judges ignored and deducted nothing for and a big step on floor which again they ignored and deducted nothing for.

    • @simonsenecal6560

      @@janr.6802 I agree Maroney deserved a 10, but judges will probably never give out 10s in execution scores ever again. Sad but true.

      @@simonsenecal6560 She did have a couple of visible errors in her vault, as I saw nothing wrong with Shannon's. Her legs weren't crossed during twist elements, no leg separation, and Maroney did have her toes crossed and the leg separation error after the roundoff. I think Maroney deserved a 9.985 and Shannon a perfect 10.

    It's amazing how its been 20 years, and we still talk about this! But Shannon was World AA Champ in '93 and '94- Kim Zmeskal was the reigning WC at these Games.
    And the Unified Team was more "former Soviet Union" than "Russian"- the 3 AAers were from Ukraine [Gutsu, Lysenko] and Belarus [Bogi]. Galieva, who qualified ahead of Gutsu, was from Uzbekistan.

  • @taminator664
    @taminator664 12 лет назад

    I totally agree with you! Shannon and Gutsu were scored fairly on uneven bars, both were a little overscored on beam, but Gutsu was terribly overscored on floor with her botched first tumbling pass (she scored a 9.925 when she had at least 2 tenths in deductions) and on vault Shannon nailed it completely while Gutsu landed still piked and had a shuffle of her foot on the landing as well.
