    Have you set yourself any language goals for the new year?

      Going to try and read 15 books in Spanish this year!

      1000 hours of Gaelainn (includes passive listening while commuting, running, housework etc) and 10,000 new anki decks created (only practical/conversational phrases/words). I made the mistake of spending too much time on very academic/literary/archaic language in the beginning. I want to be as 'functional' and confortable in relaxed informal conversation by end of 2022.

      Sounds like a solid well thought out goal! 🙌🏽

    This was a really really useful video for me Shane and thank you for sharing it It’s interesting how you spend your week with your Spanish learning. I myself am very driven with my Spanish and I am very consistent with it doing something every single day to do with Spanish, be it listening to podcasts, watching RUclips videos , reading, speaking, seeing in person Spanish friends or texting SPANISH friends and having Skype Intercambios with Spanish pals.
    I also make notes of new phrases or words that I have learned. I have my once a week Italki lesson-and do the various tasks and preparation ls that my teacher sets for me-I also review my lesson with the teacher by watching a recording of or it that week.
    However, I still don’t do nowhere near as much as you manage-which I find very inspirational.
    I agree with you completely about consistency with Spanish studying-so I never ever a miss a day without doing at least something to do with Spanish.
    I marvel at your progress on a relatively short period of time in your Spanish learning journey-but then putting in that much work how could you not!
    Thanks again for this video Shane -I especially found your thoughts on intensive vs extensive reading useful too-.
    You’re a great language learning student to ‘model’ myself on apropos of learning Spanish in an intelligent and organised way.
    Thanks once again.

    I just started reading stories last week and it’s the best way! I did lot of anki and only speaking through baselang! I’ve advanced a lot but I feel the reading with lityle listening is the best way ! However speaking with a native only needs to be done maybe once or twice a week . It’s part of the process but in my experience I’ve never learnt much from just speaking.

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад

      Reading is definitely one of my favourite ways to learn too, and listening is very important, even speaking 3x per week speaking still only makes up at most 10% of my exposure to the language in a week

    Great video man, thanks. I will definitely be trying out some things that you mentioned, such as the audiobooks. Do you have any recommendations? And also, can you do more videos with you speaking Spanish on omegle to strangers? Thanks

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah I will try and make more Omegle content soon 😊 I just look through audible for story’s I might find interesting to be honest

    Hello Shane, great vids mate. I'm currently doing a GCSE and will start a degree in Spanish next year. Are there any exams or quals you reckon I should take that are highly respected and will set me up for a career using the spanish language? Cheers

    Do you find that writing helps with the speaking portion of language learning? Great video?

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад +2

      Yeah definitely from the perspective of structuring my ideas and thoughts a bit more, and also sometimes as a way to help me remember new vocabulary

    Love your videos shawn and greetings from finland!🇫🇮 i have been actively lissening spanish for 230hours now. Do you think i can already jump to native content if i can understand for example luisito comiunica: videos around 75-90%? I find beginner material extremely boring.

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад

      Thanks! I think it worth a try, at the end of the day if you dont understand much you can repeat it a few times but it will be a lot more engaging. Ultimately if you don't like the content you're consuming then it's going to be pretty hard to motivate yourself to do it so I personally prioritise enjoyment over comprehension (within reason)

    Great video! I find it particulary difficult to get into writing. Do you get writing tasks from your tutors or how do you tackle this?

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад

      Sometimes I do writing tasks from my tutor and sometimes I just write about whatever comes to mind. Honestly I find it difficult too sometimes but I find that once I get started that’s usually the hardest part. Also something else that helped me was looking up examples of things similar to what I’m trying to write and use that as inspiration to get started

    id like to know about the criteria for different levels, I,e, a1, a,2 etc. Do you have opinions on the criteria?

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад

      What do you mean in regards to the criteria?

    • @bromie21
      @bromie21 3 года назад

      @@ShaneGodliman the standard required to pass for example A1, or A2 etc. From what I understand even passing A1 requires quite a good standard. Presumably there is a criteria to meet to pass? Do you have to prove proficiency in a number of different aspects of language learning (like speaking, listening, writing etc...). I'd be interested in learning more

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад +1

      Well I don’t actually have any experience with any of the other exams or levels as this will be my first one, but in terms of difficulty there are definitely some pretty challenging elements to the exam, and there are a lot of different tasks including writing listening reading and speaking, there are several tasks for each. The exact types of tasks for each level are available on the DELE website if you wanted to check it out

    Your first 2 years of Spanish. What was your studying like? Reading,listening, watching movies ? What was a average day look like ?

    • @ShaneGodliman
      @ShaneGodliman  3 года назад +1

      Obviously it has changed during the 2 years based on my schedule, my level and my goals, but there is an older video called “How I Learn Spanish” that is from earlier in my journey if you want to check it out and compare to currently
