Amateur. I can do that while also reading 22 books with my right eye, 22 other books with my left eye, and 50 books in braille (15 per hand. I'm a bit slower with my toes so only 10 books per foot). ^^

I'm proud Shane. I've been trying to finish the second story from ollie's short stories in Spanish intermediate for a week. Granted my level is A2 so I'm wayyy behind you, but you were my inspiration to learn vocabulary through reading as opposed to apps, etc. Me encanta su canal sigue así

I was thinking that a good idea for a video might be to speak about the top 5 things that you found the most difficult about the Spanish language, and how you were able to overcome these things on your way to having an advanced level (for instance subjunctive, mixing up past tenses etc). I'm still fighting through my first novel on my kindle, but we're almost 40% done. I've actually noticed an increase in reading speed from where I was at the beginning, which is pretty cool.
How much of the vocabulary do you know to be able to listen to it comfortably? I speak basic French and I would find it so intimidating to listen to an audiobook. Reading alone requires me to have a translator by my side quite often.

Hi, Shane! You have a fantastic channel. I’m either an A2 or B1 Spanish learner. I only have about an hour each night to devote in immersing because of work and family. My question is which is more effective spending that hour: watching a hour long Netflix episode or reading a novel? I enjoy doing both.

In regards to your question, I’d say that ultimately both will benefit you in different ways, depending on your reading speed you might be able to expose yourself to more of the language (ie more words) in that hour, but on the other hand the visual support of watching a series can help you to pick up a lot more new words and phrases because you can understand what’s happening easier and infer meaning through context
Curious if you bumped up the audio speed for any of them? Probably depends on the narrator if it's a viable option. Crank the speed up enough you can simulate Chilean spanish!
No it was all normal speed, honesty I don’t enjoy listening to audiobooks sped up, if it’s non fiction maybe, but a big part of the book is the narration and I want to enjoy it and not just force it into my ears which is what sped up feels like to me
Tough to choose to be honest, I made a separate video about “La Sombra del Viento” which is probably my favourite book I’ve read in Spanish so far. From this challenge I really enjoyed “El Otro Barrio” and “La Paciente Silenciosa”, the latter of which I believe is being made into a film soon. Those were the two with the most interesting stories for me, but all of the books were good in different ways!

It's not cheating to listen to the audiobooks but I know you know it's different to reading them, from a language acquisition standpoint. Both listening and reading have their pros and cons, it's just different.
Hello! Do you look up the new words you don’t know when you encounter them in the novels? I’m reading Percy Jackson right now and it’s full of new and complicated words!🥵 Even though it’s a book for like 10-12 year olds haha!
I don't have a specific rule or system, but in general no, I don't look up every word I don't understand because it would take forever and doesn't add enough to the enjoyment of the experience to make it worth it. I read to follow the main story, if I come across a word that repeats a lot or seems important to the story or to understanding what's happening then I'll look it up, but otherwise I let repetition and context teach me the word. Read a lot and keep reading and the most important words will repeat in a variety of contexts allowing you to gradually form an understanding of what that word means

Yeah audible is my go to, I think there are probably lots of other options but audible is just easy for me
