  • I review the GSI Creos ps771 airbrush. Is it one of the best? Many say it is a simple copy of the iwata cmc+ I disagree for various reasons. However get in here to see how well it sprays? Is this the high detail airbrush you need in your arsenal?

I own the ps-770 and I have owned it since 2018 if memory serves me correctly. I have found a negative with it. That is the fact that I don't hardly ever grab my other air brushes as much. I bought it to do only detail and I find it being my work horse too after using it.

you honestly don't need a brush like this starting out.
Something like the ps289 would be a great choice.
Im still also a fan of the iwata eclipse, even if I think they are charging a little extra for the name.
The eclipse is just slightly better at handling thicker paint, and stupid easy to care for. Id love to see creos add in a self centering nozzle in their line up. But all of their brushes are truly excellent.

At least I think that's what's happening as I pull the needle up to test it in his paint right where the needle meets the cup I've already replaced the Teflon needs and a couple of the agents versions not sure why this keeps happening

ive been buying up a lot of things.. and I honestly should have done it when they first came out.. as mentioned elsewhere. I had an olympos micron (the original) and felt I didnt need this.. however I never liked the cup. The olympos has a .2 needle (like the cmc+ actually but a little finer. This has a .18 like the cm sb. However this has a longer taper so in theory this is finer than an iwata micron. In reality you would be very very hard pressed to tell the difference. It is finer than my olympos but were splitting hairs at that point. This is a bit more comfortable to use than the olympos because of the cup. :)

Thanks for the reply and added info! I started playing around last September with the talon full set. Dropped it while cleaning and it landed on the rear of the needle, punching a chip out out of the .38 nozzle. I was mortified but lived through the lesson. I just bought one of these but haven't had a chance to try it out--hopefully this weekend. I understand what you're talking about when you say the response is excellent as it's the same thing I find with my Olympos Microns vs. my Iwata CM-C Micron, one of the reasons being that Olympos needles have a longer, finer taper than Iwata needles. I also just recently got an Olympos MP-200B (same as an Iwata CM-B) so I have that to compare to the PS-771. Same as you I've read nothing but rave reviews about the 771--so I had to get one!

I have the mp200 as well. But yeah it was getting a little up there in age.. and again i didnt like the cup. its hard pressed to say one outperforms the other, the mac valve (and I used to never use them) does add a little something to it. With fine tuning if your REALLY dialing in paint.
Obviously you can still order an olympos out of japan.. but they have steadily upped the price to make them a bit less desireable of an option now.

You probably mean the 289 and 270. I have the 270 not the 289 but its on my list of things to acquire :) Im going to look at a couple more airbrushes in the next couple months, It gets expensive since I pay for these out of pocket.. so it does take some time :)

I want to get one airbrush that will sort of do it all. Prime my minis, base coat and do some detail work. If i use airbrush flow improver will good quality primer spray ok through this or will it constantly get clogged?

This is definitely not the do it all airbrush. It’s a fine detail brush
Check my reviews on the ps 289
Or the iwata eclipse for a do most everything airbrushes

Hey Bill my 771 isnt running right.. You know that little piston is there an o ring that goes in that place where the piston goes? It seems like i get so little air coming out.?? Thaknks

Make sure the final needle cap doesn’t have debris in it. When you take it off you should easily tell of your getting enough air.
However the airflow will be reduced in comparison to some other airbrushes. Say compared to my eclipse

I think you made an error, the Needle limiter, at least on mine isn't plastic, it's just blackened metal, like gun bluing... the inside of mine is slightly shiny from needle rub. other than that great review. I've had mine for about a Year now, love it... Just wonder it GSI Creos is planning on coming out with a side feed version.. I would snap up one of those without thinking about it for sure.

i cant correct inside the video.. but I pinned a comment about that.. it is indeed not plastic. TBH that was something I heard and really just assumed and payed no attention to it when i bought it. I literally noticed the error the day i posted the video. Actually looking at the thumbnail i have 770 instead of 771 listed on that too :/
      Thanks!

It's ok I cannot stand the resistance when you first push the trigger down for air.it has a prominent binding feel. I have 3 h&s and iwata and they're smooth all the way through. I've tried oiling trigger needle everything that needs to be alone still the same once you get the trigger down brushes amazing it's that binding is going in the beginning that sucks. I contacted spray Gunner place I bought it from they picked up a couple and it's the same with those maybe it's this particular airbrush

I have not noticed anything out of the normal. however there is no linear transition from off to on with this brush. It definitely has a distinct click on and off. its a little different than my eclipse, but the same as a micron. Soft springs are an option but the slight click down wont change even with a soft spring.

So I'm a broke painter, and I have an hp-cs, and a 290. I want something for detail next, and I can't afford more than one brush. I was set on the 270, but now I see this review lol. If you had to choose one of those two, which one are you taking? I assume this one after the review

Buy the 270 amzn.to/3I8cHEm (aff link)
Its an incredible value. And while the 771 is stellar, i sold it. Not because its not fabulous.. but I also own a micron. And the two MOST USED airbrushes I own are the Eclipse and the 270. Just because the 270 plays a little nicer with thicker paint. If you absolutely feel you need the finest precision sure get the 771. if not get the 270 and save the pennies for later.
As a side note the 270 can take the 771 head and with that and the 771 needle and packing screw you could upgrade later. Whether that makes financial sense or not depends on price im sure.
I have no real justification from turning you from a more expensive purchase.. i just know if you can avoid the "gotta have them all disease" that i have the 270 is a fabulous choice.

That 183 is definitely my favorite Cheap brush. Artem from Spraygunner should soon have a full stock of parts for them, as well as carrying the brush very soon. They already carry the siphon version (you may have seen) And its great as well.
The 771 is an amazing tool.
I sold mine.. because I wasnt using it often enough (silly me thought id slim down my airbrush collection) But im going to oder one of the overstock Micron SB.. i like them more than the takumi not to mention the takumi is way overpriced. Was hoping GSI would do a side feed version as well but not holding my breath.

Hey Bill, long time no see at Tim's Wed Night stream. I also see you changed your stream name, way cool. Nice PS771 lookie Loo, ( I picked up a H&S w/ 0.15 needle ) but you left something out. It doesn't matter how well an airbrush is built, designed or costs. It won't spray like your video, if you don't reduce / thin your paint correctly and strain it before use. I only point this missing info out, to remind AB artists esp. new ones, that even a super high quality airbrush won't spray like it was designed, if you don't mix it's food correctly. Think like you have a broken jaw. Your nurse gives you a shake with a big fat 3/8" dia. straw and you suck it up no problem. Next day a different nurse brings you a shake and hands you a tiny 3/32" dia coffee mixing straw to suck it through, you're not eating that shake. Tiny needle sizes need correctly thinned paint without any clumps, or it won't flow / spray correctly.

no question reduction comes into play with detail airbrushes. But it may suprise a lot of people to know I often run straight out of the bottle.. even with a .2. rarely do I use more reducer than it takes to mix the colors easily. Which is about 10 percent or so. A 1-1 reduction ratio is considered heavy to me most of the time. Of course it all depends on the paint you use.
Of course I have a video devoted entirely to reduction.
Ive been pretty insanely busy.. from october to christmas I did about 40 painting comissions. then january got Covid.. Then we had a vacation first of february.. while id love to say im back to normal. They will be putting my grandbaby back in the hospital. And ill know more about that soon. But its not good.

So, having this airbrush, would you ever need a micron?

    • @TheAIRspace
      @TheAIRspace  3 года назад +1

You would be extremely hard pressed to notice a difference between this and a custom micron. The only reason I could see one considering it, is if you wanted a side feed or a B cup.
The Micron SB is going away, and their new replacement will be out next month. But at the cost, i imagine it may be some time before I can review one.
