I’m starting a business and having meals and groceries delivered would be a blessing
Me adding When We Lost Our Heads to my TBR immediately 👀
i picked it up on book outlet and was like wait why did i get this? oh yeah because alex recommends it!!
A recent book I read that screamed Umbrella Academy but make it darker is The Library at Mount Char
oh yes totally!
Loved it!
11/22/63 is long but a quick read. I ate it up! Highly recommend giving it a try
Remarkably Bright Creatures and Happiness Falls are my favorites so far this year.
2:46 you throwing that post-it note is like something I would do! I adore your videos. Plus, I've been wondering what to post on my book blog and you've given me a great idea.
The Lonely Hearts Hotel By Heather O'Neill is one of my favorite books I liked it even more than When we lost our heads. Her writing is so special and beautiful!! 💜
I second this. It's such a beautiful book.
Don't forget "Big Swiss" for "unhinged female character" genre! Also, there's Jade Song's "Chlorine", and Ottessa Moshfegh has a few too (for example, "Eileen").
I can't believe I forgot you have a new video! Got busy with work.
Anywaaays. Love love love Bookshops & Bonedust. I actually started reading cozy fantasy bec of you. I'm glad I did. The influence you have on my reading list is just so huge 😂❤
11/22/63 will take your number 1 spot for the year. I said it.
Yay! I’ve been really getting into Kings non-horror books. Unpopular option: he writes great romance!
hahaa, when I was watching Umbrella Academy (season 2, I think?) I was like "hey, this is 11/22/63". I don't know if they did that intentionally, but they match up a lot
Daisy darker, weyward, and the TOG series have been my favorite reads recently!
11/22/63 is a great book! its one of my favorite Stephen King books. It's also a series on Prime i think.
Heather ONeill is an underrated genius - you should pick up Lullabies for Little Criminals for sure!
omg finally someone who loves this book, too! 🎉
i read Lullabies, i want to say, five years ago, and i was like, why is no one talking about Heather O’Neill, why, whhhyyyyy?
i love this author so much 🤗
If you are looking for a new rec, especially if you are into that weird girl genre, I highly recommend “Pizza Girl” by Jean Kyoung Frazier. I personally didn’t like it myself lol but it definitely fits that category of books you mentioned!
I also highly recommend “Natural Beauty” by Ling Ling Huang. It’s a literary fiction/horror. I personally loved this one!
I HAVE to recommend you Skulduggery Pleasant as your October read! Read the first book and you won't be able to let this series go again. It's the book series I go back to whenever I want a good laugh or some really dark on-point sarcasm.
Basically, the book is about a young girl who inherites a house after her strange uncle and discovers that said uncle was part of this community of magic practitioners, ghouls and goblins. A world where your real name can be used against you, you have to choose your style of magic, and there is a ghastly war brewing. Stephanie is the female protagonist. The MALE protagonist, oh boy, let me tell you. A suit dressed, fedora wearing, irresponsible, mostly caring, slightly forgetful, with the darkest and driest sense of dark sarcastic humor, SKELETON detective!
You have to give this a chance! Please!
I read My Husband based on your recommendation and really liked it, especially the ending. Thank you!
I bought and read Spoonbenders when you first compared it to umbrella academy a couple of years ago…. It’s so good, you will love it!!!
Lexi, I have a book recommendation for you! Inheritance by Nora Roberts The Lost Bride Trilogy Book One. It has historical, paranormal, romance, Gothic, and so many other vibes! There is also a manor/mansion on the coast of Maine, and it's haunted. I read it in 2 sittings. Would have been one sitting if my husband hadn't kept pestering me to go to bed last night. Lol. When I finished the book, my first thought was wow. The next was, Lexi needs to read this!
Swashbucklers by Dan Hanks- a nostalgic Christmasy horror fantasy adventure perfect for fans of Stranger Things and The Goonies!
I don’t have a book to recommend today…just nothing jumping to mind, but I do want to recommend the show “The Wilds”. If I remember correctly, it’s on Prime. I have only watched season 1, but found it randomly and ended up binging it because it was so intriguing. I really need to find time to check out the second season. I don’t really know how to describe it, but I believe it somewhat fits in your vibe you were talking about because the girl who is the main character and all the girls who are supporting (main) characters are all definitely “messy”. 😂 It’s so good! 🍌
I’ve never clicked so fast in my life when I got this notification. And why did that tamale look so good to me lol. I am definitely picking up when we lost our heads. I’ve heard great things about this book but now that you put it as your number one and that it’s not gonna be moved from the spot I am going to order it right now through Amazon because that’s how easy I am to get convinced about books and I am OK with that and you’re the only one that I trust with any book recommendations so thank you😊
Omg, When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill is my fav this year! A book in which women can spontaneously turn into dragons and devour the person who pissed them off. So freakin good! The audiobook is also excellent. Ugh so beautifully written.
I would love to recommend In The Time of The Butterflies by Julia Álvarez. It’s about sisters who fight against the regime of Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.
My most anticipated release and the most beautiful book I’ve bought this year is The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell.
Both these books seem really interesting. I'll be checking them out. Thank you.
When we lost our heads is on my tbr maybe it's time I pick it up 👀
My faves so far are:
- Pride and Prejudice
- In Other Lands
- Lord of the Rings
- You Should Be So Lucky
- I hope this doesn't find you
- The Space Between Worlds
- Arrows of the Queen
- A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking
Biggest dissapointment would be Once Upon a Broken Heart.
The shows I'd recommend are the Bear and Dungeon Meshi :D
Oh someone who knows cat Sebastian!!
@@morganarosana You Should Be So Lucky was the first book I've read from this author but I'm definitely gonna check out more. Do you have any particular recommendations?
@@nikolahetn944 we could be so good are my favorite from her, and it's in the same "world" as you should be so lucky. the turners trilogy is also very good.
@@morganarosana okay, thank you!
@@nikolahetn944 no problem. cat sebastian is one of the best historical writers, another one you maybe should check is kj charles
I highly recommend you read The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer it’s a beautiful story about messy characters and grief and love and it’s amazing!!
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2024: Babel
2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2024: Haikyu vol 42 (its a sequel)
3. New release you haven't read yet, but want to - The Whispers by Ashley Audrain (its a new release in Brazil)
7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you) - R F Kuang- i havent read her book before this year
12. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received) - Radium Girls by Kate Moore (you need to check the brazilian edition of this book)
I'm trying to think what book to recomend by i dont know if you've read it or not, in case you are interested in non fiction, Radium Girls, but I guess Violeta by Isabel Allende is a good one as well
OMG a fellow Haikyuu fan! Who's your favourite character? (If that's too hard you can choose one from each school
@@craftychicken12 haha i feel like Kenma with this question (about narrowing the choices), I guess Hinata, Oikawa e Kenma
@@giovannabatalhaoliveira6902 Nice choices! Mine would be Noya And Yamaguchi, but I also quite like Iwaizumi and Kuroo
I ALWAYS look forward to your videos. ❤ Love the variety of options! 😁
I already did last time but since you asked for recommendations it just has to be that Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver 🤭🤭🤭😍
I would recommend that you read Perilous Times. Not enough people are talking about it imo.
I would recommend Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler if you haven’t read it yet, Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers, or The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess
Outer Banks is the one TV show I recommend 🧡
I would recommend Going Postal by Terry Pratchett...or any other book by this author.
my favorite book so far has to be The Other Side of Night. It was so good!!! It's a sci-fi mystery but so good!!!
Bodies on Netflix is a fun time travel series!
I would recommend Temple Alley Summer to read in summer! It’s a translated middle grade about love and friendship with a story within a story (think fairytale) and it’s so beautiful and heartwarming! Was one of my top reads of 2023!!
I don't have hungry root, but your salad reminded me of these grilled chicken wraps I made yesterday. I was in the mood for burritos and remembered this time I had a chicken wrap from a gas station so I made some. Also my favorite book of the year so far is Bookshops and bonedust and my favorite series of the year(and wil not be moved) is the once upon a broken heart
I really love the tv show The 100.. I want to check out the books ❤
I'll be off to the beach next week and so I bought Bad Summer People after your recommendation 😆 I will also take "Just for the Summer" by Abby Jiminez with me.
My favorite book I have read so far this year (and my recommendation) is Everyone on This Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson. It is the sequel to Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone, which was also my favorite book last year. I bought the sequel right as it came out, but waited a while before reading it, because I was hoping it would live up to the first one. It did, and I think I maybe even liked it slightly better than the first one! Those books are funny and unique, and I do like the train setting on the second book. Can't help but being reminded a bit of Murder on the Orient Express. 🍌
This series is so good! I think there's a 3rd one coming up at the end of the year
@@bujobyfilo It is, isn't it? I'm surprised it has not been talked about more online. There is indeed a third one about Christmas coming out at the end of October, and it went straight to my TBR list 😁
@@smileycindy ah I thought I had to wait until december, that's great news! 🥳
@@bujobyfilo October 24th, 2024, if Goodreads is to be trusted. 😁
@@smileycindy yayyy!
I loved The Book of Doors, which features time travel! Definitely recommend
Some new favs this year: Arc of a Scythe trilogy, Les misérables
Biggest disappointments: Yours truly (I loved Part of your world though) and A darker shade of magic
Check out the Kushiel’s Dart series y Jaqueline Kerry, I’m only on the second book and I can’t wait to keep devouring them 😃
My book recommendation that I read and loved this year would be A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross. So beautifully written. As for TV show, it would have to be Bridgerton. Such a guilty pleasure for me 😂. Love your videos! 🍌
I got lots of recommendations from this video, so thank you so much, Lexi🥰🍌
The best sequel I've read so far is definitely ACOMAF ☺️
LOVED ACOMAF too 💙✨️
@@poppycalliope Yay! Can't wait to read the next book in the series 💙
@@lauraa1345 you will love them for sure! I personally REALLY enjoyed acowar too, such an epic book ⚔️🔥❤️
@@poppycalliope This makes me even more excited to pick it up soon😍
I've just read Lost in the Garden by Adam S Leslie. It's Weird Girl Folklore Horror Surreal Summer time vibes. Not sure what was going on but I had a fun time 😅
So many great recommendations! Thank you 🍌
The 11/22/63 adaptation on Hulu is really good. Definitely check that out after reading the book! ☺️
Okay new subscriber here, I don’t know how long I went without you but so glad I’ve found you, had to go and get a new book shelf from all the books I’m getting. lol
🍌🍌🍌❤
My favorite book I read this year was Icarus by K. Ancrum, its a modern day retelling of the love story of Icarus and Helios from Greek Mythology and it is SO good. The writing is incredibly poetic and you really just feel for the characters! I literally never see anyone talk about this book so I believe it to be an underrated read. If I were to recommend ONE book, it would def be this one. Lemme know if you check it out!!
ahhhh i always love it when i see an upload notifictaion from you! PS I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE COZY SUMMER READING VLOGS/BOOKSHOPPING/GENERAL DAY IN THE LIFE VIDS. i always love those kinds of videos from you especially now that it's summer and you always have such a cozy relaxing vibe :)
Ahhhhh freaking out on this freak out book tag 😂😂✨✨
Thanks for the update🍌
My biggest thing this first half of the year is listening to audiobooks. It has changed how much I have time to read😍Love it. But sometimes I realise I’ve zoomed out.
Tv shows that I recommend are:
Bodkin (murder mystery, podcast, Ireland, comic vibes)
A discovery of witches (witches, vampires, Europe, romantic)
3 body problem (sci-fi, weird)
Lupin (clever criminal drama, cozy, french)
Paradox Bound by Peter Cline is also a Time Travel book that I can’t stop thinking about. ❤
I just noticed that the red part of the cover of Fruit of the Dead is a pill!
One of my favourite TV shows has time-travel, it's a German show called Dark, the first season specifically is phenomenal, also the Korean movie The Call is a really good time travel thriller, not sure if it wouldn't be a bit scary for your tastes though. Other movies I feel you'll really love if you haven't seen them yet are Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and anything Ghibli (the most recent The Boy and the Heron was stunning, but my all-time favourite is Whisper of the Heart).
I have my final exam in uni in a week and right after that I have to move, so stress has been a lot but some manga that's been keeping me happy is Play It Cool, Guys; My Love Mix-Up! and Kaiju No. 8 💗
yes! I recommended dark too! It’s so underrated but stunning and interesting! I’m always trying to get more people to watch it. Lol.
I would 100% recommend Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. I think you will dig the vibe, part of your weird girls thing.
🍌- Love your choices from the tag. Differently going to compile my own.
Great Video Lexi and the book I would recommend is A River Enchanted I’m loving it so far & as for a TV show/movie Enola Holmes or Cobra Kai Have a Great Day and Weekend Happy Reading 📖😊
If I could recommend you one book, it would be The Thorns Remain by J.J.A. Harwood. A Fae Lord. A mortal woman. A deadly dance. And I’m not talking like the Fae that are actually kind of sweet like ACOTAR. I’m talking the Fae that are manipulative and strike deals and are scary but also kind of attractively intriguing.
My recommendation that fits with the weird girl genre, if you haven’t read it already, is My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It is the first in a quartet of books called the Neapolitan Quartet. It’s so messy but brilliant.
I read Medusa just barely after your recommendation in your last video! It was so fun! Lots of Percy Jackson vibes. Easy and quick read.
I mean...The Familiar does give off vampire vibes just from the cover...like I can't explain it but it does
The ministry of time was SO GOOD. it’s also outlander Doctor Who vibes
I laughed out loud when you talked about The Familiar with vampires 😂 I remember the video you mentioned 😂
🍌 I have read bad summer people from your recommendations and I loved it !!!
If I had to recommend one book it would be … the benevolent society of ill mannered ladies. I absolutely devoured this and loved it 😍
Roanoke Girls was so good!
If you’re liking weird girl literary fiction you should try The Bell Jar if you haven’t already. One of my favourite books of all time. Witty, intelligent, unhinged and heart wrenching
My favorite book so far has to be The Sands of Arawiya duology. It was sooo good!!! 🍌
I’d recommend Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. I went into with book club knowing next to nothing and ended up loving it.
I just got the arc for The Lost Story today and I'm SO excited and feel so lucky to have it!!! I did a little happy dance when I received
I just finished Less yesterday! What an absolutely lovely story! I enjoyed it so much! I added the sequel to my TBR!
If you haven't read Heather O'Neill's "Lonely Hearts Hotel", you must. It's one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. ❤️
🍌 One book I would like to recommend is Sanctuary of the Shadow by Aurora Ascher. It's spicey but it does have a good story too. By the way thanks for making RUclips videos like this. They are a ray of sunshine. 🌞
I would like to hear your opinion on the book called Brutes when you read it 😊
I just discovered your content in a more continuous way and I love it. I bought Bad Summer People and listen, I ❤ you. Know how much you’re appreciated.
One Book I recommend: Goosebumps: The Haunted School by RL Stine. I know you like middle grade books and this was my favorite Goosebumps story
One show I recommend: Bridgerton of course 😌
I LOVE UMBRELLA ACADEMY!! I am a fan of the writer of the comics who is the vocalist of the band My Chemical Romance.
Surviving summer on Netflix is to die ❤❤if u love beach vibes and surfing with romance and friendship sprinkled in to make everything 10x more dramatic
I love that show!!!
🍌 One of my FAVORITE books I've read so far has been "I Cheerfully Refuse" by Leif Enger. It's a literary fiction with a dystopian setting and there is a bit of an Orpheus/Eurydice retelling vibes in there as well (blurbs call the MC an "Orphean narrator" so I believe it's intentional lol). A book that I think give huge Umbrella Academy vibes is the Silvers series by Daniel Price! First book is "The Flight of the SIlvers" and it centers around a group of people who survive the end of their world only to end up in some kind of alternate world to their own and they all get powers ✨
My answers to the Mid year tag questions:
1. The ten thousand doors of January by Alex E. Harrow.
2. The fire endless (A river enchanted #2) by Rebecca Ross.
3. Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis.
4. Silverborn by Jessica Townsend.
5. The sign of four by Arthur Conan Doyle.
6. The ten tousand doors of January by Alex E. harrow. (Didn't knew this one would become most fav book)
7. Maud Ventura! Or Rebecca Ross & Alex E. harrow for me.
8. No crushes, but maybe Lord of the lotus house from The girl who fell beneath the sea.
9. Ian from the very secret society of irregular witches. (The most adorable)
10. No books made me cry, some made me emotional but not cry.
11. All of them!!!!!!!!!
12. I only bought 1 physical book, Before the coffee gets cold by Toshigawa Kawaguchi. (The blue sprayed edge edition)
13. MANY!!! Every next month have atleast more than 5 books planned!
QOTD: The book I'd recommend is Lost in the neverwood by Aiden Thomas. And The Scarlet & Ivy series by Sofie Cleverly.
Here is your banana! 🍌
Invictus by Ryan Graudin is family / found-family with time-travel 💖
You should try The House Witch by Delemach. 😊
My 2nd year doing this tag on my channel. Love it! 🌈🧋📚🥤🍄🍉🍨💐🍓
🍌 Also, made some banana curry soup, perfect for summer and autumn as well 😊
Most Umbrella academy book - The Library At Mount Char
A show I recommend to watch is an Apple TV+ show called the Buccaneers. show with a good story so definitely definitely recommend.
I would recommend for you The Jackaby series by William Ritter. It’s whimsical and mysterious. It’s Sherlock meets Grimm tv show.
I loved The Umbrella Academy! Such a great series! 🍌
I really am now so curious if you’ve read or would be interested in “The Knockout Queen” by Rufi Thorpe after hearing about your new obsession with the weird literary genre. while the main character is not your weird girl protagonist; his newly acquired best (?) friend is indeed, very much, the kind of messy girl you’re looking for. and the protagonist has his own crazy story of pining and violence to follow along with it. it made me laugh with how ridiculous the story seemed at times, but it also could hit you so hard with its emotional tension; highly recommend if you haven’t heard of it already :’)!
Lexy for your time travel books I recommend "Sea of tranquility" by Emily ST. John Mandel is amazing!!
Girl, read the Umbrella Academy graphic novels!!! They're so good.
I had never read the Hunger Games, and so I'm only about 16 years late to the fandom and I LOVED it! I love a dystopian fiction but I think the YA branding put me off reading it until now.
If you haven’t yet please pick up the American royals series. I think you would fly through it like I did!
One book I would recommend would be Midnight at Blackbird Cafe..and one Show would be "call The Midwife". One movie I would recommend would be How to make an American Quilt eith Winona Ryder.
I read Katherine Marsh's middle grade book The Lost Year recently, so amazing! Would love to pick up more by her!
🍌 now I need to read When We Lost Our Heads, it sounds fantastic
11/22/63. Yes!! Loved it.
I don't know what my favorite book of the year is so far, lots of goodies. If I have to recommend one for you in the vain of time travel: Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. A hard read but amazing. If you want something whimsical and atmospheric the duology A River Enchanted/A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross.
I bought Bad Summer People because of your recommendation! I plan to read it on my trip to North Carolina.
🍌🍌🍌
I’m constantly recommending the show Dark on Netflix to people. It’s amazing! I find it so artistically beautiful. I’ve rewatched it several times. It’s a sci-fi show dealing with time travel. Some people don’t like it because its not originally in English but that doesn’t bother me. It’s a must watch!!!!
