      Unfortunately I was to young to understand the who yr thing ect ect. I was born in 88. I started listening to 80s music in about 92 or 93. A lot of different songs and music videos I forgot about. Icwould rather listen to the 80s than 80% of this crap released in the last 20 yrs. This music is a lot better. The very first song I remember I herd I didn't know who sang it but I loved it, I was maybe 5 yrs old. I got a little older and saw the video on VH1. I instantly started to cry when it started. That song was Every Breath You Take by The Police. I still sometimes cry when I hear the song today but I am obsessed with it. When I was younger I would cry even if I was listening to the song on the radio. If I was out somewhere in the store I had to make up an excuse like go to the bathroom just so I wouldn't be crying out in public. I still cry over the song to this day. Heck sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, the song is playing in my mind and I start crying. I was at a wedding 16 yrs ago they had the song on repeat before the wedding started I almost started crying luckily I didnt.

    A lot of us hard core Heart fans from the early days of the 70's always felt that they "sold out" in the 80's with these pop-rock songs, but they were good songs. And Nancy Wilson's moves on stage while playing the guitar were always a joy to watch.

    • @peterlagunas3391
      @peterlagunas3391 9 месяцев назад +1

      Artistically, yes, they did sell out but times change and music with it...Ann herself noted that the group's success in the 80s damaged thst flair in her but again provided the means for Heart to continue in other iterations such as the Heartmongers and other projects...

    In addition to being one of the most memorable songs of the 80s, it's fascinating that a successful band and a woman can express men's feelings and undeserved disappointments this clearly 😌
    In today's world, i can't even think of a scenario where a woman produces this kind of a song that takes the side of men. It just shows that how the society has fallen. This is so sad actually.

Back in '87 after having a one night stand with a girl who I used to go to high school with but when we were in high school together, she liked me but I wouldn't give her the time of day... a couple years later I ran into her at a party and man did she ever grow up and looked amazing! The next day, she was with another guy and told me that she wasn't interested in a relationship with anyone... I guess she got the last laugh. Despite this, the 80's was the best decade ever!

    • @MasterJediDude
      @MasterJediDude 2 года назад +3

      I can tell you why. I was 17 when this came out and the competition was extremely strong. Not only for radio play, but MTV as well. And every metal and glam-rock band out there had this look and feel. The big hair, the moves/kicks and the synth-backed guitars. It was over-saturation, and for me - a lack of musical education. At first glance, they appear no different from Vixen or other girl bands.
      It was a few years later when I discovered the 70’s version of Heart and learned about Ann and Nancy. Only then, did I have a full appreciation of their skills and talents.

    • @gatekeeperboxing5898
      @gatekeeperboxing5898 2 года назад +1

      @@MasterJediDude I also discovered their 70's stuff later too, some of which is their best work IMO. This song is better than These Dreams which charted higher in the USA, although in the UK These Dreams only charted at 62 alot lower than There's The Girl at 34. Generally though I prefer the more uptempo songs to the Ballads that seemed so popular in the 80's.

    What I find unfair is how these two immensely talented women get no credit for writing such amazing songs throughout their careers. They both sang, played numerous instruments, and wrote incredible songs. Unlike most of today's pole dancers trying to pass themselves off as musicians they are the real deal!

    • @TravelinBand747

      Yes, they absolutely could write and play, although some of their biggest hits were written by others, but that shows their talent: can you really imagine "These Dreams" or "Alone" being sung by anyone else and being the hits that they were? Heart talked the talk and walked the walk and are now in the R&R Hall of Fame, deservedly so.

    Life is strange; as a Black man growing up in the 70's and 80's there WAS Racism EVEN in music. Majority of White people listened to Rock( and before you shoot me down in flames; l said MAJORITY not ALL; there WERE exceptions; Notably DISCO) et al and the majority of BLACK people listened to Funk, Soul Reggae et al. Basically a dividing LINE between Black and White music..l have to say l was a Victim of this philosophy perpetrated by Governments; we all were...but Since this policy has been dropped in Society...l'm finding life is OK to listen to the other side without feeling guilty( The populace indoctrination was SO Strong ), but thankfully, we are all healing...this IS Wonderful!!!

      I know what you mean, but I don't think it was a gov't thing. I think people are just tribal. We're tribal in ways we aren't even aware of, like music. In my household, Earth, Wind & Fire then Michael Jackson broke the barriers. But then for me personally it was that song Night Shift by the Commodores. I couldn't get enough of it as a kid, and it opened my world to old school R&B and Motown. That was my earliest moment of evolving culturally.

      The biggest selling albums from the 80's are by black artists; Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Lionel Ritchie and many other great artists.... I mean it's not a metter of skin colour but a matter of roots. We had few funk/soul white succesful artists and we had very few metal black artists but I think not due to racism. In Italy (where I was born and live) I do not remember racism or omophobia in the 80s; we also had some black artists like Kano a very famous and successful italo disco act here. I think today we have more racism than in the 80's. at least in Italy. sorry for my bad english.
