    Hey everyone!
Thanks for everyone watching this interview. During the over hour of the interview, Caleb and I briefly discussed his case. After we wrapped, we both agreed that we would not include this information, only a very high level because there is a victim that cannot speak to her side of the story. Due to his status on the registry, I felt it was important to protect her privacy.
In order to get through the interview, we made agreements to have a civil discourse despite my not condoning or agreeing with his crime or behavior. The goal of the video is not to rehash what he's done in an unrelated case but to show what the Duggars did to him in Josh's case.
Caleb did plead guilty to a charge in Illinois. As a part of his plea, he had to complete a lot programs, therapy, and make restitution. The prosecutors in the case explained to the judge what happened & how the crime was different than Josh's crime. Josh's crime involved young girls under age 12. Caleb's involved a 16 year old that he was in a relationship with at the time, a relationship that I again, don't agree with & do not support his crimes or actions. We had ground rules for this interview so that it was done constructively.
I have to balance my approach to ask the questions you want to know about the case at hand - which is Josh.
    Hope that helps!
    Katie

I know Caleb has made mistakes in his past, but I really feel for him because the adults in his life, people he looked up too and respected have really hurt him and let him down. The way he speaks of Jimbob even now compared to how Jimbob treated him with Josh's situation is so sad. It sounds like he hasn't, but I could be wrong. I feel like the cult absolutely does normalize relationships between minors and adults and if he grew up in this, he may have not understood that it's wrong because it's all he's ever known or seen. That said, after being convicted and educated, if he is still IN the cult, that's concerning

Josh had paid for Videos of children being injured in the worst way and that was the SA and SM on his computer. He was financially supporting the harming of innocent small children.
Katie, I hope it is okay for me to put this so starkly plain on your site. I think that people need to know the depth of evil.

In addition, one of the videos is supposed to be very notorious. Most of us learned about this video because of this investigation. It just shows how dark Josh Duggar because it means he actively participated and interacted with this evil long enough to learn about these things. It's not like a normal person will say 'hmm, I want to watch this file" or something. No. This implies familiarity with this evil.
Think of it this way. If you are into .. I don't know.. cooking, you start exploring. At first, it's something simple. How to make an egg omelet. Then, you progress and it's "How to roast a chicken". Then, you progress and you're looking at molecular gastronomy and you are suddenly spending hundreds of dollars on elite cookware and tools. Josh is at that last stage based on the files he had on his computer. It shows advanced knowledge. We should all be frightened that somebody like him could get away for so long with it.
What frightens me more is the fact that Josh is not the only one. These kinds of conservative cultures create a lot of unhealthy people. it's a very abusive culture. Repression and demonization of normal human things such as sex drives can warp people and cause long term damage. For example, Elisabeth Smart was ashamed of being raped as a child and being "impure". Elizabeth Smart was never impure or damaged. Something bad happened. The problem was that the purity culture teachings taught Elizabeth something very wrong. She was the innocent victim and she should have had no thought but.. My mother and father love me and they will help me and and protect me from the bad people.

Their friends came over with their dates or boyfriends and age was brought up. They were teenage girls, 16 and older with men 18 and older. Nothing felt wrong or dirty or illegal. Several of their friends even married and had children with these men. From what I gather, Caleb was introduced to the young lady that had his child through the cult. They were in a relationship and expected to spend their lives together. I'm not certain of the catalyst that brought him to being charged himself. I know Katie mentioned it, I just don't remember it. I'm sure he felt he must enter into this relationship due to the cult teachings and he was under the impression that nothing was wrong with their age difference also due to the cult teachings. So sad the Duggars felt they had an easy mark to blame this on and I'm glad it didn't stick.

I’m in my fifties, and I totally get where you’re coming from. It was different back then. This scenario is literally a sophomore/junior girl going out with a boy who turns 18 his Senior year. No one ever had a problem with this. And yup, there were plenty of us having s$x at 16!!
Big difference if it’s a 13 year old eighth grader going out with a Senior boy of 18. That I can see being a huge issue.
On the flip side, we were all latch key kids, riding our bikes with no helmets, no seatbelts in the car, and out all day until dinner, fully trusted. With no cell phone, lol. I guess we’re lucky we survived 😆

If he's imprisoned closer to home and she can visit him often she'll still cling to hope for their marriage and stay more emotionally attached to him. Doing this interview, telling ur side, while simultaneously owning ur own mistakes was a really good choice.
Caleb seems very genuine and in my mind a victim too. I know Caleb’s brother is in prison for crimes against children (the details are horrendous but I won’t put them here). We can’t control what people around us do and in no way is his brothers behavior a reflection of him. However, I do think he needs to run FAR away from these people. They can’t seem to not harm children. If he stays in this circle it’s almost a guarantee he’ll get caught up in their web again.

He’s very correct about holding onto anger and hurt only causing him pain. I am not convinced Josh will ever change personally but I’d be thrilled if he proved me wrong. Anna really needs to be careful what choices she makes and think through how it all will affect her children. She has a lot of support to leave and I think that she should take them up on the offers. If josh ever changes then she could re consider but she really needs to protect those babies

For the concerns/comparisons over the ages difference in Caleb's case vs Josh's behavior... I see it as a genuine fault of the parents of the minor child. Caleb didn't pick her up at a mall, at a camp, church, or all ages night club. This was a betrothal arranged by the adults caring for them both. All parents involved should have been the ones under investigation. I heard earlier they started the grooming process years prior, and they both thought this was normal given the circumstances they grew up in. There were strong expectations of marriage during all of this, and they were basically playing house until she was able to get married. This situation is another by-product of the harmful teachings of this cult.
Josh who was taught that he didn't have to face real consequences... ever, went after his own sisters, assaulted a women while cheating on Anna multiple times, and viewed illegal material involving children/babies. All he learned was how to live a double life, and his biggest supporters were the ones who perpetuated that.
We wonder how some people get in the news about commiting heinous acts, but are able to live a normal life in the public view? We know now how that's possible, and it unfolded in front of our eyes. I hope he gets put away for a very long time, and measures are in place to make sure he is monitored closely when he is released. I hope in the meantime, the ones who have supported this behavior are also being investigated.

There’s no such thing as “non-consensual violent acts against children” . Children are minors, the can’t consent. And even if
a child consented to someone doing a violent act to them it’s irrelevant as they are minors. It’s child ab period.

If Caleb was in another state, like Maryland, he would have never been charged. The age of consent is 16. When I was 16, the associate pastor at my church was in his 50’s, had grand kids my age, and was sleeping with a 16 year old from the neighborhood (that didn’t go to church). Nothing ever happened to him, except being forced to step down from pastoral duties. I appreciate that Caleb is actually repentant and recognizes, even though he was guided to be with a teen, that it was wrong. I really enjoyed the interview and your impartiality Katie. Katie, you were a fantastic host! You asked great questions. Caleb is definitely a better person than I am. I believe that sometimes religion makes us forgive too fast and then down the road, we realize we were so eager to do the right thing by forgiving, that we dont process the normal emotions that would normally come with a situation like this (anger, appallation, disgust, betrayal, etc). I was raised LDS and still am and I see an internal struggle there that I recognized from my younger self. I always tried to be understanding and put others needs above my own. Only as I got older did I realize that forgiveness didnt mean I had to accept people or even like them. That kid has a big and kind heart. I hope he heals from this and has a good life in spite of everything.
    Again, great job!
