The most moving setting of this most moving of medieval poems, superbly performed. Many thanks to you, the other fine soloists, and the celestial choir and orchestra, and of course Maestro Harnoncourt.

Beautiful performance in every way. I particularly love the alto and tenor soloists. Such lovely dark resonant voices.

Dvořák´s daughter Marie Dvořáková was alt singer. Dvořák was also singing in the choir as a young teenager, with the daughter of his teacher and composer Antonín Lehmann , Terinka Liehmannová...Antonín Liehamnn was a composer who composed curch and dance music. His daughter was his first love and he liked her voice. Dvořak was also playing the organ with the teacher Liehmann. They composed the first piece together called Polka Poměnka, Forget me not polka.

@@alaalfa8839 That is very interesting! Thank you for replying. We are about to start learning Dvořák's Mass in D in choir. I learnt his Stabat Mater a couple of years ago. Absolutely beautiful piece of music.

This is probably the greatest performance I've listened to of this amazing piece. Other high recommendations are the audio recordings of Sawallisch and especially the one with the very same Harnoncourt (RCA). But this one is a live performance and features an amazing alto. Somehow the late Harnoncourt got leaner, and this interpretation (similar to his recording) is free from all mannerisms and oddities (or to be positive: experimentations) that characterizes him sometimes, except for one: the ending a capella part. But that one is pure magic and unique, I do not know if that was the way originally Dvorak conceived it, but it is just so convincing and touching that it brings tears to the eyes of the unprepared listener: 1:33:57
Is it possible to get this recording from somewhere?

In ogni modo molto bella.
