I've had the smaller half hexie template for years, but I've been too intimidated to use it. Appreciate all your tips you've given on how to do this quilt!

There are other possible layouts! It's a neat little template! There are a couple of more layouts I am going to try! I like that this template is versatile!

I made a Hexi quilt several years ago and really enjoyed it. I have one tip, I am very frugal with fabric, so all those left over little triangles that were cut off to cut my hexagons half's ( I used a layer cake) I used them in the border. I also had strip and plaid fabrics in mine and up close they do kind of bother me but from a short distance away I am the only one who notices. So don't sweat the small stuff.

Graph paper with the hexi shape and coloring pencils can give you more options for layouts. I have not used these templates, but can you add a diamond / half triangle (for ease of sewing in rows) shape in there with a contrasting color to spread out the fabric?. Sort of to give an illusion of leaves, all based on the hexi shape. ?

Great ideas! I usually sketch mine out but I didn't on this one.

I like both layouts but the flowers are my favorite.
If you use a coordinating fabric for the half hexie blocks, you could save the collection prints instead of cutting some in half. Just a suggestion.
I started a 5 inch half hexie quilt top and am still adding some more fabrics. A UFO.

I had planned on using two red coordinating fabrics from my stash; however, they both bled when I spray starched them! They were both quilt shop quality fabric also! I have had several fabrics bleed lately and I never really have experienced that very much before....

Years ago I made a pillow of small hexies. Time consuming because I hand sewed but worth the time.

Yes, these are cheating a little because you can sew by machine with no "Y" seams!

I recently found lots of that fabric line at the cherry pit in Tennessee. Give them a call.

I used the 5” half-hexie and created Vintage Blossom by MSQC. That pattern creates a border around each flower. Unfortunately, I can’t post a picture as my fb was hacked 😢
A friend of mine used a number chooser on her phone to help with her layout as it’s a scrappy design

I really need more design boards I still only have the one you made for me at retreat.

I make my own design boards for a few dollars. The Dollar Tree $1.25 foam core boards will result in several sizes, more boards if you need larger, I like 24" ones plus smaller ones. You take a scrap of batting the size of your board, stretch it out a little so it's taut. Use spray baste or plain white glue around the perimeter surface of the board to hold the batting in place. I use the decorative "duck" tape sold at hobby stores and tape the edges down, framing the board, front and back. Voila! A Lori Holt or Riley Blake or whatever design board.

Well, don't buy them because they are super easy to make and so much cheaper! You can just get the foam board and batting...you don't have to put on the decorative edge. How many more are you wanting and what size? You are coming in July right?
