The Grenadier was designed by Ineos Automotive Ltd, a company founded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, billionaire and chairman of the multinational chemicals company Ineos. The Grenadier, designed as a modern replacement of the original Land Rover Defender, has boxy bodywork, a steel ladder chassis, beam axles with long-travel progressive-rate coil spring suspension (front and rear), and is to be powered by BMW six-cylinder internal combustion engines.
In November 2020 it was announced that Ineos would work with Korean carmaker Hyundai on a longer-term plan to develop a reliable source of hydrogen in Europe to use Hyundai fuel cell technology, with no carbon dioxide emissions, on later Grenadier production
In March 2019, Ineos Automotive announced that it had entered into a powertrain technology partnership with BMW. It was announced in September 2019 that the Grenadier would be manufactured at a bespoke new manufacturing facility on a greenfield site in Bridgend, Wales. Ineos Automotive also confirmed that it would be investing in a sub-assembly plant in Estarreja, Portugal, for the Grenadier’s body and chassis. In December 2019, Ineos Automotive announced the Austrian-based Magna Steyr as their engineering partner for the development of the Grenadier. This partnership would oversee turning the development project concept into a mass-produced machine. Development of the off-roader will see it undergo 1.1 million miles (1.8 million km) as part of a grueling testing regime. Mark Tennant, the commercial director of Ineos Automotive, told the Financial Times there had been 50,000 expressions of interest before the designs of the vehicle had been made public. The brand expects to build 25,000 Grenadier models a year at full capacity. In June 2020, Ineos Automotive unveiled a first look at the exterior design of the Grenadier, as well as some technical information relating to the vehicle's chassis, towing capabilities and suspension.
On 7 July 2020, it was reported that Ineos Automotive was in talks with Daimler AG, the owners of Mercedes-Benz, to buy the Smart factory in Hambach, France, and build the Grenadier there instead of Wales and Portugal. "It's a serious business consideration," Tennant said. Ken Skates, Welsh Government Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales said it would be "a real blow if Ineos reneged on its very public commitment". The government of Wales was reported in July 2020 to have spent £5 million on supporting the Ineos factory development at Bridgend with enabling work and road infrastructure, and said at that time that it would "look to recoup appropriate costs from the company" if the Bridgend factory was cancelled.
On 8 December 2020 Ineos announced it had purchased the Smartville factory at Hambach, France, to build the Grenadier, stating that the site's location "gives excellent access to supply chains, automotive talent and target markets". Ineos denied on Twitter having received "grants or other direct financial support" from either the Welsh or Portuguese governments

I think this was filmed at the start of production. A very impressive vehicle.
Curious if this will force Landrover to go back to a basic Defender style SUV w/out all of the bells & whistles...I have heard/read of complaints that the basic unit is still not "stripped" down enough for the true enthusiasts. Perhaps. But this is not only for them. Thinking of the US market, this will compete head-to-head with the Toyota's, Lexus, Landrover, Ford, GM/Chevy and to a certain extent, the Jeep. This could become another family car.

Overweight and riddled with faults. I sold mine within a week.
Allow me please to comment that this car is produced in a small amount of pieces, this could be fine due to the time the workers have to do their job property or the end of the fairytale because noone buys the car. I had 3 jeep Wrangler in the past 10 years, the last one was more offen at the dealer as in my garage.... I had to separate me from my loving car....
But this ineos has to proof itself.... a fine motor made by BMW is not the only thing, I see very much cheap hard plastic, I am also not sure about the corrosion and the painting of the car.....
They have no dealership, no references (well thats kind of normal at the moment).... but they expect prices like a wrangler or defender.... this doesn't match....

It was an incredibly stupid choice... And if this thing is supposed to be a rugged utilitarian off-roader, why the fuck don't they offer a manual transmission? Why does it have a super complicated infotainment system? You don't need any of that... In 2018, all vehicles were mandated to have rear view cameras, but that doesn't require a complicated infotainment unit that is inevitably going to break down... And the ZF transmissions are known for mechatronic failures... And they had to put the POS BMW b58 engine in this thing... What a piece of GARBAGE. If they don't want to go through the headache and expense of offering a different, and arguably much better, engine option, then offer people a complete rolling chassis without a powertrain that can accept a different powertrain.. here in the United States you can buy complete engine and transmission packages from any of the big three or Toyota or even Subaru.. They are already emissions compliant...
The B58 was good enough for Toyota, why not Ineos?
Toyota would have surely supplied them with bulletproof drivetrains yet the Europeans are content on scratching each other's backs with unreliable junk. Unless long-term Welfare government contracts ( including UN) can be had, doubt Ineos will survive.
C'est le pire 4x4 que j'ai vu... J'ai passé 10 ans à l'armée et 8 ans en Afrique. Je ne lui donne pas 6 mois sur place. Moteur à injection BMW, pas du tout prévus pour du gazole de merde (même pas dit, qu'en Espagne, cela fonctionne) Assemblage fait à la louche, pas de schnorkel prévu pour le franchissement, entré d'air au-dessus de la roue passager???? Pas de porte-gibier à l'arrière. Intérieur bien trop luxueux pour de l'expédition. Excès de gadget dans l'habitacle et des supports étranges sur les portières, on dirait des rails picatinnys. Même les ingénieurs de l'usine ne connaissent pas sa fonction. Leurs hypothèses la plus crédible serait le rajout de plaque de Kevlar pour le transport de VIP. Personnellement, l'usine smart appartenait à Mercedes, et les Allemands ne voulaient pas la fermer sous le logo de la célèbre marque. D'où une vente bien arrangeante à un milliardaire anglais, qui selon la légende rêvait de reconstruire le land-rover Defender. Même si cela ne se vend pas, l'État français rachètera les stocks pour son propre usage et à nos frais. Pour le prix = 90 000€ en bas de gamme. Et pour les puristes de l'expédition, il y a l'UAZ Patriot, assemblé aux USA: www.generation4x4mag.fr/uaz-go-to-usa/
all very well , but the ineos is a totally useless piece of metal , the original design used aluminium and this is pressed tincan stuff , original the panorama windows served a view this is only looks ! , you can see the filming was staged to the unrealistic point of fake grinding and fake manual labour . this is only a fuel consumer on tractor tyres good for getting groceries
