    • @VulpesChama
      @VulpesChama 3 года назад +1

      Well, utilizing the every unit as best as possible is the best way to go. It's also hardly cheesing in this case, unless you count friendly fire and making use of it per se as cheesing. But then I could counter argue that any form of making use of your opponents mistakes is cheesing. And this would change a hell lot of game rules. Making use of mistakes of your opponent is literally the core idea of almost all games that have opponents. Including but not limited to board games as well.
      This army was effective. And if you only need a couple of units in your army you still build up a full stack. Why? Because of redundancy, if your usual strategy may fail for some reason. Then you have backup to work with.
      Problem is, that legend may simply be too good as player. We should rate Doomstacks based on how easy the noobiest noob can win with them on legendary. Because that is the idea of a doomstack. Being the closest thing to a guaranteed victory possible.
      (Speaking of cheesing, isn't making use of doomstacks just a form of cheesing as well? If this vid was cheesing for you, than doomstacks really should be too.)

    • @VulpesChama

      I know what you mean, I just don't think that you should evaluate an army that way.
      An army should be evaluated at how it deals in confrontations, so far so good. And how good it is at defeating the enemy by also losing as few of their own as possible
      And I think you see where I go from here.
      Sure, he could have used the full army against the other one, but that wouldn't have been a) effective and he b) wouldn't have used the army to its full potential.
      And yes, even without 90% of the army technically not participating you can use the maximum necessary potential to win in the most effective way.
      That's why I would prefer these armies to be tested by people who have more or less only a basic knowledge about how this game works.
      As the idea of a doomstack is that anyone can win with them at least most of the time and normal encounters.
      Which is also a proof the following: How ridiculously bad the battle-AI actually is.
      -
      And this proves another thing as well: Total War difficulty means sh*t. It really does mean nothing. As soon as you realize how easy it is to outsmart the AI, there's nothing stopping you. But it also isn't fun anymore, as you see yourself doing the same over and over again with the AI acting in the same stupid way over and over again.
      The AI does not get smarter in anyway. And forcing players to play "worse" so that the AI can handle the players tactics is plain stupid. So you end up choosing "cheese", because it is the sensible thing to do. And all armies and all encounters will be build on that.
      What we desperately need, at least for higher difficulties, is a better AI, so that even "Doomstacks" may begin to lose their worth.
      So, yes he did test the army to its full potential, the AI is just laughably bad at dealing with human players.

      I never saw more than 2 tanks on a empire army

    • @SkorpionMarauder
      @SkorpionMarauder 3 года назад +4

      I use mainly a mix of poison wind mortars and ratling guns(4 and 6), with 2 jezzails and 2 warp lightning cannons. Ikit claw or warlock master, warlock engineer and 4 plague priests for the rest.
      I use the mortars to weaken the incoming units, switching targets so everyone gets hit. Goal isn't to finish them off, just lower their health. Their low accuracy can actually help here to hit multiple units side by side. The DoT effect lowers their hp so the ratling guns have a very easy time killing them. It's a lot of micro as they're charging, but I don't usually need to control anything else at this stage. The jezzails target lords and heroes almost exclusively, and the cannons target single entity monsters or things like steam tanks, and of course I use the menace below for artillery.
      When whatever melee units remain get close, the plague priests summon their rat hordes and the mortars switch to targeting ranged infantry, and I have one ratling gun and one plague priest cover each flank against cavalry flanking. The ratlings shoot into the remaining melee infantry and monsters. If I have to, I can shoot the mortars into the surviving melee infantry as well (killing my own summoned units, but what's a little friendly fire among rats?) Reason I don't use the mortars for this right away is because ranged units are more of a threat, and my mortars would cause my rats to break very fast, giving them less holding power. So I usually only do it if there's a lot of stuff that made it that far, and then summon more rats to replace them.
      Sieges are ridiculously easy with the mortars and actually become easier the more units they have, cause I get the army losses penalty much more easily, and have lots of targets in a small space to hit. I can boost the mortars accuracy with the warlock engineer to help with ammo efficiency. Only 2 mortars causes me to run out of ammo too much, so that's why I normally have 4. Since my other units don't use their ammo, my balance of power stays very high.
      The biggest problem I have with this build are monster spam armies and single entity flyers like phoenixes and great eagles. Howling warpgale can hold the flyers in place, but my ratling guns are still needed for the infantry, so I usually swap two mortars with two more jezzails when up against high elves or factions with lots of monsters. Between the jezzails, ratling guns, warlock engineer and the warlock master general I use, phoenix spam armies are much easier, though still annoying. Single entity ground monsters get shredded by ratling guns. I don't usually need to switch them out too often, as the ai never actually makes arcane phoenix doomstacks.
      Can't really send this build in cause I use mods (nothing that would really alter battles), but thought I might as well share and see what people think.
      P.S. wow this got long.

    • @Olav_Hansen
      @Olav_Hansen 3 года назад

      There is 2 ways to approach creating a doomstack. The first is to look for a certain ranged unit/single entity/monstrous unit/cav. Spam that unit. Get a lord and 1 or a couple heroes to maximise the efficiency of that unit.
      Example: lizardmen stegodon spam. Lord life slaan (for healing the stegodon), hero saurus scar on carnosaur to rush arty/skirmishers and optionally a skink on a terrodon for damaging spell support.
      The 2nd way to create a doomstack is by having a handful of units that together are able to deal with anything. This is because some units have weaknesses that can't be overcome alone. Poisoned wind mortars for example completely wreck infantry, but They can't put a dent in a single entity. Comparatively most artillery has a lot of killing potential, but since it has no staying power it needs something else to fight with it. The stack above is an example of that kinds of "more balanced" build.

    I'm not sure about the brood horrors, but having packmasters definitely free up winds that would otherwise be used for vermintides, allowing the casting of other spells more often, but still allowing for vermintides if things get bad.
    They essentially do a good enough job of what plague priests normally would be doing while also being good at melee, allowing for fewer plague priests while still getting the same, if not better results in many situations.

    Okay, I know exactly what this guy is going for, which, as other commenters point out, Legend didn't really test. I actually have done almost exactly the same build with Empire, only with steam tanks instead of doom horrors, handgunners instead of weapon teams, and Hellstorm Rocket Batteries instead of catapults. I call this the "combined arms stack" because it's basically a modern combined arms doctrine applied to Total War.
    The purpose of the Doom Horrors is to function as a front line of single entity units that tie up the enemy. Because they're single entity, they take almost no damage from friendly fire artillery and don't block line of sight for your weapons teams. In fact, often enemy units will "wrap around" to surround your single entity unit, turning them into a shooting gallery for your gunners. On top of that, you can just spam spells right on top of them and not have to worry about damaging them.
    You mentioned that ease of use should be considered, and when used correctly, I actually think this doomstack is significantly easier to use. It involves almost zero intensive micro, because you just park your army in formation and pretty much just wait, whereas your typical doomstack basically assumes a high degree of micro cheese.

      @@Olav_Hansen The gobadiers are not suck in my opinion you just need to upgrade them via Ikit workshop and know how to use them
      I even some time gave up on rattling guns and just using 4 globadiers and 6 jezzails and still works phenomenal
      And something to consider is by using globadiers and jezzails you will be able to use checker board formation so effectively as skaven
      Just form a 4 line checker board with the heroes in the 1st and globadiers in the 2nd and jezzails in the 3rd and finally plague claw catapults and poison wind mortars in the 4th line
      Just take it from me:
      putting globadiers right next to the front line will just absolutely shred your initial enemy forces
      I even checked them in front of questling knights and they just annihilated them before they even touch them

    so for the first one, I'd say its an 8-9, depending on playstyle, if you like magic, then bring extra mages, if you need more things to tank for the weapons teams, or have unbreakable units the brood horrors are a nice addition, they can also assault gates nicely in sieges and the pack masters can create diversions (tecnically possible with menace or mage summons too)

  • @ph2559
    @ph2559 3 года назад +1

    I'd argue that this type of doomstack is better against high tier HE armies with lots of phoenixes because the brood horror will/can attract these single entities. Personally without the cost i would put it at a 9.1 or something.

    We also have to factor in the campaign costs. Pack masters and brood horrors require tier 3 and 4 monster buildings to recruit and increase their capacity, plague priests get bell polishers and can fucking multiply themselves without extra buildings. That ability to be able to get basically infinite priest capacity with only one building is really unique and overlooked. You aren't just building for one army, but a template for multiple armies.
    I'd suggest 1 or two pack masters and no monsters, spamming plague priests is easy and extremely viable for creating a barrier between enemies and your weapons teams, but packmasters give replenishment, scavenge, and can spawn light magic/poison dmg cav without magic, making them better for flanking or distractions, so they shouldn't be ignored entirely.

Mortars behind. These will do most of the killing. Those that get past the mortars will be shredded close in by the guns.

It's perhaps the prevalence of skeleton spam, which although it's effective doesn't make for the most interesting fight (once you've seen one ammo wasting followed by skele blob, you've seen em all). That'd be my guess as to why the vampire counts videos don't draw viewers.

    I would only put maybe like 2 brood horrors in the weapons team stack when playing throt. When you get attacked by most cavalry army and corner camp they tend to put a lot of pressure on the side since they still trying to flank you. You can just wait for them to blob up and warp bomb them.

    Bretonnia Doomstack, Lord, Paladin, 4 Royal hippogriff knight, rest Grail knights. Cost is ~6k once the lord has done the final vow, allowing for a ton of them, 1 army can auto win against most enemies, having 2-3 together means any continent is an easy win.

  • @ladders7087
    @ladders7087 3 года назад

    I would say just drop the brood horrors for plague priests. It'll mean that army loses a bit of ranged power and a bit of holding capability, but makes up for it in a massive mobility boost (Using Packmasters to be fast and deal good damage and Wolf Rat summons for squishier targets). Plus, it means you can put even more rat-things on a battlefield.

    Question regarding weapons team doomstacks: how do I most efficiently deal with terrorgeist spam? I usually bait them to the ground with warp geinders and lockem down so my weapons teams can hammer them, but after killing the first few, my grinders are either dead or shattered, and the geists are free to wreck havoc on my weapons teams' leadership, and I end up with most of them routing

  • @monkeybot4088

    I kinda agree. Pack masters vs plague persists I would go for pack masters now any day. For a weapons team build anyway. Clan rats vs. Wolf rats and rat ogres I would go for the WR and RO. Don't cost winds tp summon and are much better fighters for the dmg. For pack masters themselves they are much for tanky then plague persists with their Regan on the mount. I would say take away the basic brood horror replace with the missing weapons team. But now take PM over PP.

    Legend you should judge on 3 categories:
    Upkeep, how hard the stack is to create and how good it is in the battle. For example the okoi 20 stack is really strong in battle, but when you are at a point in the campaign to actually create 1 or several, you've already won. And in terms of upkeep since the lords are already fairly expensive, and can't be reduced as much that is also pretty expensive.
