Before I got enough Packmasters for summons, I used them to draw things away or chase down routing units. Skaven really have nothing else that can pursue effectively early on - even Runners suffer from infantry pursuit syndrome, and rarely actually *catch* anything so much as gently escort it - and I'd rather not have to break the same unit three times to shatter it when my own Ld is so poor. Just a thought, but if or when you do the Greenskins unit roaster tier-list, would you be taking scrap upgrades into consideration? I know they are technically an outsider buff but I’d also argue that it’s as important to think about as recruit time or cost. For certain units it can make or break effectiveness but a lot, like how for instance normally Goblin archers are absolutely horrid compared to most archer units in the game or even their own faction, but if you add the armor piercing +400% they become immediately more effective against most greenskins prime enemies (dwarves). I understand if you don’t since it is a buff like a lord or a faction might provide, but just something to think about.

    • @GrendelJapan

Alternatively, the huge increase in ammo, especially on ranked gobbos improves your balance of power and also let's you achieve similar results by dumping more arrows into the enemy. Obviously, it depends on the circumstances, but imo the ammo boost is a nice choice and maybe more versatile.

Really interested to see the ranking for GS units as well! Legend tends to lob all melee infantry into trash tier, but the GS might do a bit different.
Goblin Fanatics can punch way above their paygrade with twirly-wirlys, and Nasty Skulkers have really good damage output for their low cost. Plus they stalk.
Stone Trolls may be the best monstrous infantry in the game. Or maybe second to Minotaurs. Really good in any case.

    • @jadenzantslayers6694
      @jadenzantslayers6694 3 года назад

there's a kinda niche use for rat ogres that I think Legend overlooked: they nock down city gates in seconds. I know there are far more effective ways for skaven to take sieges than gate-rushing, but if you want to do that, rat ogres are your friends; they'll nock out the gate in an instant, then surge through to make room for the follow-up.

Instead, you use them as cannon fodder and let the Wolf Rats attack them in the back.

I have way too many hours to still be rubbish at this game and a lot of it comes down to laziness. When you talk about how you should play the skaven though, I think I might actually put in the effort.
With that, you won't be surprised to know that i had been stacking their armies kinda "traditionally", as in I've been using the infantry.. Id usually have 6 units and then I would also of course have some of the catapults, some rattlign guns but I have recently fallen in love with the purple bombardiers. They do the sickest amount of damage. I just bought the DLC to get those brood horrors too. will. The best part of all of this though was the tier surprises. For me, dwarves are one of those races that perform waaay better when played by the AI than when i play them. For example, longbeards, mine tend to do nothing while the enemy holds the front and get a lot of kills, slayers, same problem, (of course, I run mostly ranged units armies, but I dont like going full doomstacks or super strong armies, I like some balanced armies even though I know they underperform), but yeah, same with greenskins, I just cant do the same as the AI

One of the problem with Dwarfs is that their units are all relatively expensive, but can be taken out by lower tier units with relative ease, due to the fact that especially ranged units perform way too well in this game. Everytime I see the damage basic goblin or orc archers do to a unit of Hammerers or Ironbreakers of mine, I can only shake my head and ask myself what the point of fielding high tier melee infantry is.

I sometimes feel that the big problem with melee infantry is that they are too non threatening. Sure dealing damage isn't their primary purpose. But I feel that melee infantry should get some kind of ability to swarm single entities. Like maybe some kind of outnumbering bonus. Have a large monster count as many entities. But make it so that if you only take monsters they are going to get severely hampered. It's actually ridiculous that a lot of these monsters can wade into ranked infantry completely unsupported and come out unscathed.

The interesting thing about Warp Lightning Cannon is that even when I put them in an army with Plagueclaw Catapults, they tend to get more kills overall against most armies, whether they're infantry heavy or mixed with Cav. Potential future idea would be heroes - which to prioritize, traits to look for (and how important they really are, or are not), how to rank them up, and what they are especially useful for. I confess that I often skip around your old campaigns to get reminders on how you tend to do that or think about that. Could do the same with lords. nice to see some love to the globadiers. I feel like they're too often slept on but you can get them pretty early and their damage is incredible and even with tech buffs alone they're gonna be paying for themselves easily even later in the campaign. people complain about their firing ark but it doesn't take much to get their speed up pretty good and just basic flanking will make them even more death dealers especially against cav, Death Globs are second only to ratling guns when making cav charges stop in their tracks.

How you rate skaven is how I now play skaven.

But then I played at higher difficulties and started to see them running away a lot.
Took me ages to get good wit jezzals, kept picking bad spots wea they couldn't shoot, or putting them way up front and isolated, or leaving skirmish mode on so they never shot and constantly ran away.
Now I can't play skaven without them and rattling guns and at least 2 plaugewind Mortars now too.

I would definitely argue that skaven slaves are B tier, as they cost absolutely nothing, and for recruitment, actually literally nothing. You can hire 7 of these a round in your main base and put them into battle where they can die immediately, no cost, or just one round of tiiiiiny upkeep, for expendable meatshields. They are just worse zombies, but also just extremely, extremely convenient and available. Ive literally beat armies on hard mode with ultra army size with only skavenslaves, about 1,8 to 1 in army size, and skavenslaves most certainly cost me not even a tenth of that enemy army. Underrated convenience meat shields in my honest opinion. An individual unit of skavenslaves sucks massive amounts of rat, but two of them can take out low tier infantry despite just being meatshields for near 0 gold

Note about Warp Lightning cannons: The main thing they outclass Jezzails at is dealing with Artillery Monsters, such as Stegadons, Bone(r) Giants and Steam Tanks. They have superior range and are less susceptible to return fire. By the time your Jezzails got into range to shoot the enemy Steam Tank for example, they lost half their entities and are likely routing, Warp Lightning cannons don't have this problem and because the artillery monster will likely sit completely still, accuracy isn't a problem either.
Also, unlike regular artillery, Monstrous artillery can't be properly dealt with by menace below, so you need something to actually kill them.

Skaven have the most diverse subfactions in my opinion with each of the clans having unique functions, abilities and playstyles, depending on witch you play as you army comp may be completely different as you make use of each clans strengths, you seem to be more of a eshin or skyre man thing, molder plays different, it makes monster armies much more effective and also nullifies recruitment costs for slaves and monsters, wolfrats are extreamly effective if used right and can easily delete units in seconds, snip artillery, cav and chariots depending on the chariots, and shed high value units, the main thing is you can't treat them like fodder or stuff or leave them in prolonged fights, they are very fast and easy to move around the battle field, they are good for focusing down annoying cav and stuff and good for flanking, and breaking units if you have 5 or so groups of wolfrats and group them all together you can move them around rushing any exposed or isolated units breaking them rather quickly and doing good damage, they are good reconsivness and are able to break off an engagement and rengage quickly so you can dessimate a units then break off as help comes then fuck up another units and just bounce around like that till their army starts to fall apart, then is when they really shine, wolfrats are some of the best units for dealing damage to broken units its easy for them them to get hundreds of kills per unit from the fact that once a unit is broken they can shed them extreamly fast to the last man or troll or horse or whatever, witch is why it's good to be selective in engagements and why they are good to have all groups together till you win and can have them split up to chase down people, as grouped together and flanking as they can break isolated or flanked units rather quickly and once they do they are quickly do a ton of damage and remove units from the battle it may be best to not bother finishing them all off unless they are a high value unit you wand dead rather just crippling them so they are no longer an issue till before targeting a new unit then finishing then off after you win, cuz often you don't need to fully eliminate a unit if you get it low enough they will either shatter and run off the map or regroup but be so low that they will immediately route once they go near an enemy witch makes them extreamly easy to deal with later, admittedly wolfrats are kinda trash for non-molder armies but are still effective at running down broken units so even as a non molder army bringing 1 or 2 can be good just to have them chase down things, though as molder I find they reliably win battles as the primary damage dealers hitting way above their price point(their ussuly free for molder but even if they weren't) with minimal to no damage taken alot of them time, not that that's matters as they you can have the healed or replaced in a single turn. Admittedly standard rat ogres are kinda shit, but when you get them for free they can be worth making over skaven slaves if you don't need them, wolf rats do way more damage then rat ogres in battles, and rat ogres die way more often, though molder is also able to improve units to make units more effective witch can make ratoges usable for a verity of functions, you can turn them in to tougher unbreakable ones that are a actually not bad at keeping units busy and disturbing formations, however Mutate Rat ogres are not bad and can be used to keep units busy as tanks and deal out damage, they are slower then brood horrors but it not slow either, and has better leadership, melee attack, melee defence, weapon strength, magical attack, physical resistance and more health witch makes them better in prolonged fights they are good at killing lords, infinity, cav, chariots, and weapons teams as they can often just push though to kill units In the back and are tanky enough they don't need to be baby sat, they have scurrying away as well witch makes them fast when their leader ship is lowered making them faster then alot of cav allowing it to chase down things normally faster then it after it has taken some damage, at the end of battle and stuff and unlike normal rat ogres they ussuly are good at keep themselves alive if you leave then in a fight unsupervised, I generally find they do better then broodhorrors when left in combat, well brood horrors are often good treated as giant wolfrats flanking and picking off vulnerable enemies, though are also able to be left in fights for a bit, I find it's better to keep an eye on them if you do send then up against lords and stuff. aside from standard rat ogres all the molder units are good.

Plague monk censer bearers: C tier, maybe B. Could be doomstack with moulder but that needs a lot of effort
Poisoned wind globadiers: probably C or B, just cause they do so much friendly fire, sometimes to themselves
Death Globes: Maybe A because they can do so much damage
Night Runners and Gutter runners probably B tier, poison variant A tier
Skavenslave slingers A tier maybe, other variants C tier
Ratling Guns, Jezzails, pestilent wind mortars all S tier
Plageclaws S tier, Warp lightning cannons A tier
Doomwheels either A or B, Doomflayers probably A. Brood horrors doomstack, mutant rat ogres A tier, rat ogres C tier and I have no clue about Hell Pit abominations. I’ve probably forgotten a lot of the roster, like wolf rats, but who ever recruits them anyway?
