Some advice is switching to all hydraulic will eliminate most of of your troubles.(steering and jack plate) also you may have some cavitation from your prop so playing with vent plugs could be an option or another prop in general. Stay safe out there.
Gotta drive through the chinewalk. Most bass boats chine walk to some extent at high speeds. Took me about a month to really stretch out mine when I bought it. Now chinewalking is fun to me! I enjoy the squirlly ride myself...lol
Bump your motor down either 1/8-1/4.Then ya gotta drive through it man.Time to grow a pair. We’ve been running Allison’s for years an were always tweaking on them.BECAREFUL bro!HOT BOATS ARE COMING BACK BABY YEAH!!
I use to fish on my friends yellowfin offshore boat and he would hit 91. That’s the fastest I’ve ever been on a boat and it’s super scary! Speed on the water is different
Fun was a 15hp motor on an Alumacraft T14... overgrown canoe at 13 1/2 fet long and about 42 inches wide. Top speed was 30mph(on a lake with no current) and only the back foot or so of the hull was in the water. Very squirrely! Dad bet me it couldn't beat his 35hp and I smoked him crossing the lake. Had a local cop radar speed check me going downriver one day, 38mph (current adds speed)! I spent thousands of hours in that boat, mainly river fishing for big catfish.
Damn I had the ole bass tracker 60 Merc. going 35 on Chesdin yesterday & was thinking I'm flying Lol. That place is a trip! Especially when you're use to no gas motor ponds.
I've always heard that chine walk is where the torque is trying to twist the boat and therefore the boat falls off the pad to the left and that point depending on how hard it fell will decide how hard the bounce off the water will be. So basically by the time you sense what is going on the boat has already fell off the pad, bounce back up to center and fell off to the right side . Hence the full cycle of a chine walk. That's how it was explained to me st least. The key to correcting it or so I'm told is to sense the very second the boat falls off the pad to the left and give the steering wheel a slight bump to the right, but with that super stiff cable system you have plus all the slack I noticed you'll have to upgrade to a sea star
Pretty good getting it that fast before it walks. I have a 2000 Triton TR21 that I bought at the beginning of the year. I've had it up to 73 but it has a little more left in it. At 65 it starts to get squirrely if you barely over trim. Recently I've only been able to get it to 69.
Lol we used to jump out of the boat at 30 or 40 mph and skip across the water like a rock for some reason it reminded me of that. I got an old charger with a tower or power I'm trying to get the gumption to finish.
Number 1 tip is to balance your tackle load out in your boat. I’m mean with a level on the water. I have a bullet bass boat and it chine walks pretty bad if you let it. You will not eliminate the chine walk with that steering system. You need to be able to bump your wheel to the left when you feel the your boat being pulled off pad to the right. Think of it like this if you were to put your boat in a constant slight left hand turn it would stay on pad and not chine walk but you can’t so you have to constantly jerk your wheel left the instant you feel it start to fall to the right. Be safe bro and get that steering up grade before you push that awesome Gambler.
The hull is a sporty hull looks fast 76 ain't doin all that much these days cookie cutters str8 from bass pro running them numbers mid upper 90s with fishing loads ain't that rare anymore least where I'm at so no 76 don't look fast ???
Awsome informative video brother..... crazy speed for a 225.... my cobra viper will hit low 70s with a merc optimax 225 but id be waiting for you on the other side of the lake for a half hour on a really rough day..... and no chine walk in a cobra
man my 20 G3 20' bay deluxe hits mid 40's and that id fast enough for me but i get needing that extra speed for tournaments. but good luck on reaching that 80mph bro
Hey man my dad and I both got gamblers. I got a 96 intimidator and he’s got a 02 2100dc. These boats are so sensitive to Weight distribution evenly side to side it will help take out the chine walk. Also you can just hold the steering wheel tight to the right when you feel the steering grip and it should pull it self out
I had a '96 209GE. It was also VERY sensitive to weight distribution. It was also much better with a 4 blade trophy prop. Once I had the prop "worked" it drove great and ran like a rocket!
One of my best friends had an Intimidator. I spent alot of time in that boat with him while he learned to drive it. It was scary a few times. He sol that one and bought a second one. These were the first fast boats I ever drove. You definitely need to upgrade to hydraulic steering!!!! Prop selection is also a big thing!!!! BE SAFE !! find a good 4 blade
Running a 4 blade 28p Shooter right now, only issue with it is I have to feather the hot foot getting out of the hole or it blows out. Love these boats.
if you turn the steering wheel left when the everytime the boat leans right it will straighten out and youll be able to get more speed. i was in a old gambler all my life and switched to triton and they both walk really bad if you cant drive it right
Once the chine walk starts it’s hard to get it to stop. Until you get better you will always be behind it on correction. One way to learn is to trim out and as soon as the hull starts to dip to the left give the wheel a little right and hold that little bit in it. Not enough to make the right side touch down. Just hold enough right wheel to counter act the torque. Your boat will always dip left first. Go in smaller steps. Run up to where the chine walking is just starting and drive it at that speed till it’s easy then go a wee bit faster until you master that. In a few days you will get the hang of it and wonder how you had any chine walk to begin with. I been through the process with a Bullet that went 86 mph. At first I couldn’t drive it over 70. I mean it was ugly. I totally sucked at it. Then I got tips from Jaco’s Marine. And it all came together pretty quick. The key is don’t let it start. Everyone telling you to steer through it but not how to do it. Now you know. Just remember it will dip left first and then a lit bump of the wheel to the right will make it stay level. If it starts to get away from you just back off the throttle a little and bump your trim down a bit and try again. It’s actually easier to drive fast with another person in the boat. It make the balance better. Once you learn it you won’t forget how it’s like riding a bike. And you will be able to drive other fast boats too. And boats that only go 70 and drive with a tiny bit of chine walk will go faster if balanced and still have a few rpm left. Have fun those are great old boats worth keeping around.
Hell yah not bad for a old boat them Johnson are some good motors I got a 1995 15hp Johnson on my 14ft boat runs great awosme video as always good luck on your next fishing trip Yewwww
That's smooth sailing bro. I wish I had a GoPro on my 2nd Day at Chickamauga. My boater almost killed both of us! It was CRAZY! I have never been scared on a boat until then. 90ft Yacht coming down the Tennessee River and this dude went Dukes Of Hazard on a 4ft roller from the Yacht's wake. The 21ft Ranger came completely out of the water dude, I was holding on for dear life! No JOKE! I was terrified dude.
Hydraulic all the way,,, hugehuge difference & you can get em now for the price of a couple cables. I paid $800ish for the one I put on the ol champion!
You are right on couple things...70 mph is FAST...don't let the tripple digit folks push you...your steering system prob not the answer to getting the last bit out...ya gotta feel it...and then the corrections are VERY small bumps...one thing you can do...balance it out...can REALLY make a diff...water in the oppo live well when single...all your gear side to side...I have seen guys weigh out tackel boxes...cull gear....Good Luck...Stay Safe!
Definitely rips for 30yrs old propeller dynamics in Prince George is another place you might wanna check into if you ever have any problems they are known for tuning moters and basically everything to do with performance but sweet video 👍👍
Dang. Nice boat. Haha I got a 12 foot jon boat. I knew you had one for a while, not sure about length. One question about them though. If I am using a trolling motor, and two guys are fishing fishing from the boat. Weight capacity should never be over?
Sometimes that chine walk will settle out. You just need big enough balls to find out lol. My old Allison would just chine walk away up to 87mph. Would just hang on and enjoy the ride
The best advice I was given is to catch the boat left, straight not Left then Right In other words when the boat starts to go right, when its up on the pad the torque of the prop will make the boat move right, you steer left to (catching the boat) stopping it from turning/rolling right then straight. The torch of the prop itself will catch it from turning/rolling too far left. If you turn the wheel left then right you actually throw the boat the way it wants to go RIGHT (over correcting ) that's when it really starts the chime walking. Right left right left so on and creates that pucker Factor😬 ! It takes a little seat time to get the timing down. That advice was by far the best i was given. It straighten out that learning curve for me. All boat are a little different, even 2 of the same model, and so are people figure out what works 4 you. The height of the lower unit/foot and prop make a big difference in handling and top speed. That's 1 part of your (Set Up) Learn what you got 1st. Anything over 70 mph on the water is fast, fun and scary. Kill switches and lifejackets always.
Looks like you need to take the steering wheel off and rotate it clockwise one set of holes to get your wheel straight so you can trim with your hand to the side instead of up top. Maybe not it just seemed like it was off in the video lol.
Hydraulic steering will definitely help you in your journey of learning how to drive through the walk. It’s pretty easy once you figure it out. Just need some more seat time is all really.
minor corrections in the steering will get you past the chine walk. It takes seat time and practice. You'll get it. It's all timing, until it becomes second nature.
For sure! No excuses for lack of seat time, but I also think the no feedback steering makes it difficult to make those adjustments. It basically locks the steering at high speed, and I feel making a “small” correction will overcompensate and send me into a not so fun time 😂. Hopefully upgrading to hydraulic this winter. The boat is currently down to the bones right now and I’m trying to fully restore it.
My ex father in law has one with the 200 built to 365 dyno hp. He was clocked at 93 on Lake Okeechobee in a speed contest. I hit 80 in it with him half throttle
Just always remember bro keep 2 firm hands on wheel at all times, so many ppl have a false sense of comfort and forget and keep 1 hand, and those boat props if hit a small log will easily whip that wheel 180 faster and easier than a car wheel
two hand isn't gonna save shit man going that fast u can't stop anything from happening the wheel will turn no matter what an u probably will break ur arms holding it with two or at least tear ur shoulders. Most guys who own a boat usually drive with one hand unless u have a hot foot which they really aren't that good cause they obstruct the view until u get on plain an even then can still make u sit low in boat.
I've got an 88 Ranger 374V (17'10" boat) and had a rod blow through the head. I coulda waited a couple months for parts/rebuild or have them basically bore out the cylinders etc and turn my 150hp into a 200hp with parts in stock. Soo obviously I had them blow the whole thing out. Only after a couple times out I had to take it back and have them reinforce the transom because the motor was to much power for the transom(After the break-in period.) My speedometer goes to 85mph and the peg is probably 5mph passed the 85 mark and I could peg that sucker. I don't know about Gamblers hull's but I thought they were designed with speed in mind? At 85mph my boat is smooth, no chine at all which is scary cause it's real easy to trim her up and let her eat but I've only pegged it the one time and wasn't watching my gps speed just the gauge. I'm guessin I hit aprox 90mph with 2 people and full gear but I'm good with about 65mph also lol. I don't have hydraulic steering either, wow right at 70mph yours is just rockin like somethin crazy. Gotta be the hull design right? Mine doesn't rock like that at 70mph at all.
The steering might be the issue it def looks like its little off cause u where literally going straight but the wheel was turned almost at 7 to 8 oclock position which seems to be a little off. If you probably adjust the trim on the boat and fix steering alignment it will run way better.
The steering he has is cable , and not a non feedback system. I would definitely look into hydraulic steering for running at wot. Or Matt look into a non feedback cable steering system.
How much gas you running in this video? I would prob only run 1/4 tank for speed trials, sick boat and sooo fast my 96 170 lowe with a 40hp does like 28 max speed love the thing tho
Single console makes for crazy aro at high speed then put a person under that console and weight distribution also play a part in how boat handles at high speeds be carful until you get plenty of seat time in bro 🤞
the one dislike is from the guy fishing under that bridge...lol
Never thought I would like going fast in a boat until until I got a fast boat. Fun as hell!

two hand isn't gonna save shit man going that fast u can't stop anything from happening the wheel will turn no matter what an u probably will break ur arms holding it with two or at least tear ur shoulders. Most guys who own a boat usually drive with one hand unless u have a hot foot which they really aren't that good cause they obstruct the view until u get on plain an even then can still make u sit low in boat.
@@SneakersAnonymousMatt true but more chance of accident one hand, so u see my point smart azz
I was just typing out that if it wants to go, she gonna go regardless if I’m 1 handed or sitting on the wheel 😂.
But I will say you’re right, 2 hands always better. I didn’t drive it w 1 hand barely at all.
@@SBFishing ik bro you did good, i look forward more bass tourneys in that boat, and mayb some poker vlogs too ? Lol. I like poker. Ty
It’s not the hull design it’s just the lack of experience driving it. I’ll learn.
@@SBFishing well be careful brother, good to see you wearin a life jacket.
Awesome video dude! How long is your boat?
20’6”
Get that hydraulic steering and you’ll be able to control that chine walk!!! You’ll definitely hit 80!!
That ole girl be scooting wow
The steering might be the issue it def looks like its little off cause u where literally going straight but the wheel was turned almost at 7 to 8 oclock position which seems to be a little off. If you probably adjust the trim on the boat and fix steering alignment it will run way better.
The steering he has is cable , and not a non feedback system. I would definitely look into hydraulic steering for running at wot. Or Matt look into a non feedback cable steering system.
@@shoresharp8349 ahh I see I didn't know if he had one or not.
Looking for a boat around this price range how are things goin
All is good!
That boat is SICK 🔥🔥🔥
I love it. Gonna completely redo it over time and make it my own.
What prop are you running??
28p shooter 4 blade
If you trim your motor up a little when your on plane you can get a little more speed but I can’t tell if you do or not
👍🏻👍🏻 I have trim buttons on the wheel, hard to tell though
This boat is fire 🔥
I’m very happy with it.
How much gas you running in this video? I would prob only run 1/4 tank for speed trials, sick boat and sooo fast my 96 170 lowe with a 40hp does like 28 max speed love the thing tho
Probably 1/2 tank haha
*tank was full wen I launched and used about 1/2 tank
Single console makes for crazy aro at high speed then put a person under that console and weight distribution also play a part in how boat handles at high speeds be carful until you get plenty of seat time in bro 🤞
Gamblers chime walk bad always have u have to adjust for it I have a 206dc with a 07 mercury 250 it’ll fly
