  • How prevalent is suicide in our culture? What are some ways to help with diminishing the problem? This talk details factors surrounding suicide and how one can play a role in helping making a difference in a child's life.
As a Nurse Manager at a children’s psychiatric hospital, Jen interacts daily with children living with mental illness. Through her clinical experience she has developed an acute understanding of childhood trauma and suicide. She discusses the tangible difference that meaningful adult relationships have in preventing childhood suicide. Through a commitment to caring for and building lasting positive relationships with young people, Jen expresses a great hope for drastically reducing the risk of suicide for children and teens.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I’m watching this at 1:00 am because the depression and bad thoughts are keeping me awake. This is so frustrating. I’m going to stop hiding it during the day. I always hide it because I don’t want people to judge me and I don’t want to be a burden. It makes it harder at night because I keep it buried inside me for so long during the day. I honestly don’t care that much anymore. I’m just going to show my real feelings and if everyone turns away from me that’s their problem.

K D I know how you feel. But what im seeing, from a lot of other peoples experiences, is that if you push through, you come out stronger on the other side, and you can inspire other people to keep fighting.

This video was informative and crucial for school counselors who are constantly working towards building rapport and meaningful relationships with students. I am shocked and uneasy at the statistics because of how young the age groups are. Thank you for emphasizing this because it motivates me to walk through these difficult situations with the hope to help make a difference in a child’s life as a school counselor.

Excellent Dr Helena , i think you:´re a Psychologist and i read a lot from these theme and a lot of videos, but Dr you talk about the essence, the concern, the empathy, and i had work in the past with so many children and teen at school suffering in silence, with serious problems at home, and partners in school with bullying, sometimes i cried with them, but you, Dr, gave me strength and courage to try harder when possible , the next opportunity to work again with them, thank
you so much, Anne Elizabeth from Lisbon, Portugal

How to prevent suicide.... By not creating mortals in the first place of course.
No one asks to be born after all.
Every human is born against his will and every human also has to die against his will, in between there are a lot of sorrows, better never to have been....

Young people may have had trouble dealing with such new situations, not to mention missed school days and dealing with their roller-coaster emotions, Van Susteren and other psychologists note.
But climate change can pose a risk to mental health even without a direct physical threat. Children and teens are generally more likely to accept the scientific consensus - widespread agreement - about humanity’s role in climate change, Van Susteren notes. Many kids also worry about how the impacts of climate change are expected to only worsen.
“They look at the generation ahead of them that could have taken action and didn’t,” she says. This can trigger feelings of anger, grief, resentment, fear, frustration and being
The world will end in 12 years!!! Ask Democrats. Children will be dead soo n! Right?

Childhood suicide can only be reduced if government does more to discourage breeding. The first thing is DNA testing for all newborn children. No exceptions. This would slow down the numbers of people born since the mother cannot lie about paternity. Being born is something other people choose, not the person who is alive. Life is too damn hard as it is.

Im sorry Jenny but you have done so many a disservice with this video! It is lacking in insight and information! I gurantee you 9 out of 10 parents who ask their child w depression those questions are NOT GOING TO GET AN ANSWER! It will not start a conversation! I agree that we as parents must use compassion as our guiding path over judgement, but you are trying to offer a solution from the position of therapist there to listen to you to parents to whom their child just wants to be left alone - certainly from mom & dad! Why dont u do another video that explains what you do to “show up every day” when they want nothing to do with you at the time they are struggling!!!!!!!

Pray, don't divorce unless your partner is a beast. and Pray some more. Ultimately, God does not interfere with anyone's free will, and suicide happens despite the best of homes.
