As seen in my video samples… no jello. Jello on FPV drones is always caused by the props. If a prop is slightly bent or chipped, you may get Jello, so now you know what the fix is.

Lost TELEMETRY is always do to the antenna on the drone not being able to communicate with the Radio due to interference, such as the human body filled with water blocking the signal.

Hey there Steve! Have a quick question for you. I purchased this drone and absolutely love it. I am noticing other drones this size like the Pavo Pico that has a flight controller with 20 amp ESC so it will handle 3S batteries. What's your opinion on making that type of modification to the dark star? Would you just have to change the AIO or would I also have to change the motors? I'm just curious what your opinion is on this. This is my first 2S drone so I notice a huge difference in power and flight time. But of course there are many trade-offs. After the baby hawk '03 this is my second favorite drone at the moment. It's so amazing that we can get this type of video quality and such a small form factor. Did you ever think it would get to this point? Happy flying from Sunny Clearwater Florida
The reason so many manufacturers are creating 2S drones is due to new motor and ESC technology that uses less power. So less battery weight, small drone, plenty of power, is a hit!
Nice video Steve. I am looking for something that is in between a race drone, and a camera drone. What I really want is a camera drone that looks more real when it flies, will bank on a turn and be more robust if I do happen to crash it. I don't need crazy speed but comparible to a mavic or evo. Any suggestions?
FPV drones with the DJI O3 camera system now come in all sizes and shapes and they are all good. If you are a newbie to FPV then you have a massive uphill learning curve, so perhaps start off with a small Ready To Fly Kit. Or if you are only used to DJI, then the DJI AVATA is a good starting place as it has a Beginner mode that lets it fly like a DJI MAVIC which is perfect for beginners. And then when you wish you can try MANUAL mode and CRASH multiple times until you get the hang of flying FPV. But the great thing is that the FPV Goggles can then be used with all the DJI O3 FPV drones.
Does this need to be set-up in betaflight or something like it? (buttons and stuff) I just bought it and I am wondering if I can just bind/link and fly or I need to do pre-set up in betaflight, which i never used before. I will be using the DJI remote 2 and google 2. A few more: How good is the range? Like 500m? less or more aprox, just to have an idea. Also, can you use 750 mah battery? Is that 2S? Sorry, I'm new to this.... If yes for the betaflight, any tutorials for this? If not, thanks for replying, I appreciate it a lot! :)
Hey steve! Great Video! In Ur opinion, For beginners is it a better option than cinelog 20? or Cinelog 20 worth the extra 100 dollars that cost more than the Darkstar?
The CINELOG line of drones are excellent. This one is small in size which is the selling feature. I’d go with whichever one has the batteries you currently own
May i ask your suggession about reciver, elrs or tbs? Most of droner in my area(VietNam) pick TBS crossfire for good quality of signal for not losing the drone????
I like your video I have a few questions: - Do all 2S Lipos have the same cross-section to nicely fit in the battery holder? (1.59 11.27) - Can the ducts be easily removed? - What is the max speed with & without the ducts?
Great little quad by Geprc for stunning videos! Between PNP and elrs version which one do you recommend for better signal penetration? I understand PNP can be used only with DJI remote 2 while ELRS can be combined with an extended range of controllers🤔.
I'd go ELRS, that way there is some redundancy. I'm pretty sure if you loose video signal you also loose your RC link if you go for the PNP. ELRS has more range and penetration than my goggles 2.
@@thomasp8394 thanks🙏 currently I'm using goggles V2 old stuff which I believe have really solid signal and penetration. Then I might combine with ELRS or Crossfire for even better range😎
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Okey I understand what you mean captain 😎 I will then choose between ELRS or Crossfire depending on my needs. Might combine also with Radiomaster Pocket or Zorro I think the zorro can support both ELRS & crossfire with module behind😉
In a future video I commented that some viewers are not clueing into the obvious… which is this. If I fly a drone for 5 minutes I don’t show the audience 5 mins of flight as there are many boring parts, so the 5 mins of flight may be chopped up into 3 mins, but the counter will show 5 mins as that was the total flight.
I have not tried the Happymodel Mobula 8 03 so can’t say. Happymodel brand has been more in the budget drone category so you’d have to compare components/specs.
Thank you so much for your reply, Steve! So far, I have concluded, based, however, only on reviews of these products, that the Happymodel mobula 8 O3 is more focused on "freestyle" and acrobatics, and the GepRC Darkstar20 DJI O3 is more cinematic. The cinematic style of flight is more interesting to me, so I probably choose Darkstar)
The O3 air unit is hard-mounted. What is your opinion if the drone had a decent amount of crash say on a concrete (if) vibrations/jello are going to be visible in the video?
so to clarify, if you will. IF I own the original DJI FPV, I should only need to buy DRONE, BATTERIES, & A CHARGER? all other equipment will work with this drone? I want to get one like this, but i dont really want to have to buy all separate equipment.
Darkstar 20 is very small and designed for pilots that don't mind 4 mins of flight time (max) and will not crash into anything solid (pavement, concrete, bricks), but it is the perfect INDOOR/OUTDOOR mini FPV drone with DJI O3 quality camera. The Cinelog 20 is all of the above, but takes crashes better, and has vibration dampening and has the potential for an external camera. The 25 is just more of this (bigger) running on a 4S battery.
You have two signals… one to the RECEIVER that controls the flight and one to the VIDEO. If you use a DJI REMOTE 2 and DJI FPV GOGGLES the two signals are squashed into one and it is up to the pilot to notice in the goggles that the signal is dropping. But if you use an ELRS or CROSSFIRE receiver with a non DJI REMOTE, then you have two separate signals and will receiver a warning when the telemetry signal (controlling the drone) drops in strength. Telemetry is normally always a longer range then video.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for taking the time to reply captain! What I meant actually was if the rx trasmits 2 signals (telemetry and radio)? since you were getting the 'telemetry lost' warning quite often however you were still had radio signal, does that mean that the telemetry signal of your elrs is actually weaker than the actual radio signal? Since you weren't failsafe everytime you had telemetry lost so the radio signal was still fine (but maybe was getting weaker)? Hope that makes sense I had the same think my crossfire where I was getting the 'telemetry lost' warning all the time till I just turned it off cause it was bothering me lol
@@leomatis_Telemetry is what you call the “radio” signal. As mentioned in my previous response it is just a warning to the pilot that if you keep doing what you’re doing (blocking the signal) then you may end up with a complete disconnect. This is all set up in your radio and I have mine set for an Early Warning.
I have mine set to a sensitive level, in other words the telemetry (signal from the receiver to my radio) only needs to drop on a quick outage. Just in case you are still confused… let me put it this way… your radio speaks to the RECEIVER in your drone to control it. The RECEIVER speaks to your Radio. When you get Telemetry Lost is means your Radio in your hands is picking up a weak signal from the RECEIVER in the drone. However the RECEIVER in the drone is still receiving the commands from your radio. This is why no one panics when they hear Telemetry Lost but rather just corrects the situation by unblocking the signal.
My camera was slightly tilted upward for my flights and I was on ultra wide view. If camera is pointed straight forward I don’t believe prop guards would be in frame but never tried it. If they are, the fix is to not set camera to ultra wide.
Dji O3 aside, how would you compare the performance of the darkstar with the tinygo 4k? I just got the tinygo (latest model which has the same FC AIO + ELRS) and I was wondering if this would be a good upgrade at some point??
The Darkstar is simply a tiny drone with the expensive DJI O3 system. Such a drone is for people who need a tiny drone with a high end camera. If you are looking for performance, and want to try something different then look at 4” and 5” prop drones.
I always begin to consider landing when I see 3.4 that remains constantly. Batteries are not harmed, even if landing at 3.2, but I’d never go lower than that as most FPV drones fall out of the sky at 3.2. For newbies, they don’t have a hundred batteries so they should certainly land way earlier.
I just bought the geprecdark star 20 and y cannot flash it. When i tried to do it trough wifi mode, it appears that the receiver is beta fpv 2.4 nano. I dont know what firmware set up, if it is elsr beta 2.4 nano or geprec 2.4 nano as the manual said. What do you suggest?
@@wilmerpazos81if the receiver is an ELRS receiver, it should Flash, as long as the correct receiver is selected. I have had issues with some drones where I could not update the firmware on a receiver, in such cases, I then downgraded the ELRS firmware on my transmitter to match. Also, one thing to note is that if your transmitter is using ELRS 3.x. (“X” being whatever version), you don’t have to match the receiver to the exact ELRS version. ELRS is designed so that if the receiver is on firmware 3.1 and the transmitter is on version 3.4, they will still bind & talk together, so that means if you are trying to upgrade to something like 3.4, try 3.3 or 3.2 or 3.1 etc, instead.
Hey man i wanted to ask what you would prefer... 5" freestyle or 7" longrange and i have so many choices between chimera, moz7, nazgul v3, evoque v2, mark 5 and sooo much more... maybe you have some tips for me (i fly analog with elrs)
I’ll say what I always say… what I prefer for my skills and needs is not what you’d prefer. Simply look at your needs and flying abilities and locations to fly and go from there.

You sound extremely lost. This will help you out: ruclips.net/video/zPf9b-X6cFw/видео.htmlsi=Vbcxs_4rP9ggSvNg
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks for your comment! 🤣 I'm new to this, IDK if you realized yet... I'll check the link. 🤙
Do you see a whole picture with your glasses or two little screens?
Two screens but obviously your brain converts them to one (just like in daily life)
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for the answer. But you still see a rectangular screen in your glasses, right?
Hey steve! Great Video!
In Ur opinion, For beginners is it a better option than cinelog 20? or Cinelog 20 worth the extra 100 dollars that cost more than the Darkstar?
The CINELOG line of drones are excellent. This one is small in size which is the selling feature. I’d go with whichever one has the batteries you currently own
What do you recommend for removing the DarkStar20 propeller? :)
You simply pry them off. If you are a handy man around the house you’ll be able to do it without damaging the prop/motor.
May i ask your suggession about reciver, elrs or tbs? Most of droner in my area(VietNam) pick TBS crossfire for good quality of signal for not losing the drone????
You pick a receiver based on the radio you own.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks Sir.
Can we use 4s lipo battery on this quad?
I like your video
I have a few questions:
- Do all 2S Lipos have the same cross-section to nicely fit in the battery holder? (1.59 11.27)
- Can the ducts be easily removed?
- What is the max speed with & without the ducts?
Nope, all batteries are different. Ducts are designed to remain in place & have no effect on speed.
ELRS is superior, but..... and it is a BIG but. Newbies have a hard time understanding ELRS and configuring everything.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Okey I understand what you mean captain 😎 I will then choose between ELRS or Crossfire depending on my needs. Might combine also with Radiomaster Pocket or Zorro I think the zorro can support both ELRS & crossfire with module behind😉
What’s up with the seconds counter😂😂
In a future video I commented that some viewers are not clueing into the obvious… which is this. If I fly a drone for 5 minutes I don’t show the audience 5 mins of flight as there are many boring parts, so the 5 mins of flight may be chopped up into 3 mins, but the counter will show 5 mins as that was the total flight.
can i fly the drone with the Eachine EV800DM (googles)?
Nope
Is the flight time of about four minutes too little? Is it possible to add more flight time?
Larger battery equals longer flight time, but too large and it affects performance.
Hello! What would you recommend to purchase at the moment - GepRC Darkstar20 DJI O3 or Happymodel mobula 8 O3?
I have not tried the Happymodel Mobula 8 03 so can’t say. Happymodel brand has been more in the budget drone category so you’d have to compare components/specs.
Thank you so much for your reply, Steve! So far, I have concluded, based, however, only on reviews of these products, that the Happymodel mobula 8 O3 is more focused on "freestyle" and acrobatics, and the GepRC Darkstar20 DJI O3 is more cinematic. The cinematic style of flight is more interesting to me, so I probably choose Darkstar)
I've just bought the mobula8 with the 03 installed otherwise I'd have had this one😁
The O3 air unit is hard-mounted. What is your opinion if the drone had a decent amount of crash say on a concrete (if) vibrations/jello are going to be visible in the video?
Vibrations are always the product of props. So if ever you get vibrations it means the props need replacing.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 but if you see the designs of betafpv, flywoo, ect. all of them have soft mounting for the camera...
There is obvious jelly at 8:40.
so to clarify, if you will. IF I own the original DJI FPV, I should only need to buy DRONE, BATTERIES, & A CHARGER? all other equipment will work with this drone? I want to get one like this, but i dont really want to have to buy all separate equipment.
If you have the original DJI FPV drone then you have the Version 1 FPV goggles. Those goggles are incompatible with the DJI O3 Air unit.
I was wondering about this too, looks like you'll have to buy the DJI Goggles 2
Or you could buy the WASP version stated at 10:50
@@crookers2135 Yes, i saw that but dissapointed! really trying to NOT spend so much out of pocket & to have multiple set ups is annoying LOL
thank you for your review. what would you recommend: Cinelog20, or Darkstar?
Darkstar 20 is very small and designed for pilots that don't mind 4 mins of flight time (max) and will not crash into anything solid (pavement, concrete, bricks), but it is the perfect INDOOR/OUTDOOR mini FPV drone with DJI O3 quality camera. The Cinelog 20 is all of the above, but takes crashes better, and has vibration dampening and has the potential for an external camera. The 25 is just more of this (bigger) running on a 4S battery.
thanks! having Avata as well, looks DarkStar is better as small and quiet spy fpv :))) @@CAPTAINDRONE798
Does telemetry have less range than the actual signal?
Hope that makes sense
I had the same think my crossfire where I was getting the 'telemetry lost' warning all the time till I just turned it off cause it was bothering me lol
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I see thank you! May I know what limit you have set yours? Or is it just on/off? It’s been a while since I disabled mine
Looks like the pavo pico
Hey Steve, Is the camera angle adjustable? If so are the props in view if you angle it down for slow cinematic flights?
My camera was slightly tilted upward for my flights and I was on ultra wide view. If camera is pointed straight forward I don’t believe prop guards would be in frame but never tried it. If they are, the fix is to not set camera to ultra wide.
Ok. Copy that thank you.
You should certainly try to be landing at 3.5v. You know this, Steve, but you don't tell your viewers that could be newbies.
Did you notice any jello effect? The camera seems to be hard mounted
No jello observed. Keep in mind that Jello is always a result of props, so if props get slightly bent or chipped, the unbalance will cause Jello.
Can put GoPro naked in drone ?
There is no place to mount it
I just bought the geprecdark star 20 and y cannot flash it. When i tried to do it trough wifi mode, it appears that the receiver is beta fpv 2.4 nano. I dont know what firmware set up, if it is elsr beta 2.4 nano or geprec 2.4 nano as the manual said. What do you suggest?
You sound lost, or the words you are using, make little sense. First off, what do you mean “try to flash it”? And what exactly are you flashing?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 im.sorry, when i tried to flash de last elrs firmware in elrs configurator
Can it handle slight winds?
In ACRO/AIR mode yes.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 but from the ones i listed what would you recommend? because you basicly have all of them at home
can you share your pid parameters?
I never touch PIDS or rates on any FPV Drone. I’ve been flying for so long that I simply adjust my inputs (fingers) to how the drone is setup.
