Yes I did, luckily I followed your advise and save a blank copy of the radio. I was able to load my dallas repeater with only three talk groups, I will continue to play and learn. Thanks for taking the time

great video. i finally understand how the programming works. its almost like making custom software for your radio...you have to add all the drop down menu info in order to make your "radio program" customized to your needs. i bought your 2m/70cm jpole dipole antenna and love it. i just bought a yaesu ft 70dr (for fusion/wires x) and with your antenna and tuned to the 100s frequencies, i could hear air traffic on several frequencies very clear. thanks for all your help.
I always learn something new from your videos. I recently purchased a Retevis DMR RT52. I was able to program some analog frequencies but i wasn't sure how to get started with the actual DMR portion of the radio. Now I will go to the websites you provided and see what I can do. I have a question that's more related to hot-spots actually... If I set up a network of low power hot-spots to cover a larger area, is it possible to use the same frequencies on all hot-spots? Of will that cause problems in the overlapping area? And if I need different frequencies, do DMR radio's detect what hot-spot is stronger, or do you need to switch manually? I'm working on a low-cost option to provide good and private communication over larger area's for tech crew, security and medical aid when doing events for low- / no- budget organizations, like schools, scouts, local subsidized venues etc. and DMR seems to be the best solution at this moment. Just need a bit more information before I can get started.
I have just purchased a TYT MD-UV 380 I have the correct program in my pc . Here is the problem when I open the program plug in the usb cable first to the pc then to the radio then turn on the radio (is my prosses) I hear the pc ding so I know it recognize the cable then I go to read the radio to the program I get a error message check to make sure the usb cable is pugged in .What can I do to fix this .... oh the radio is new Ken WQ9V
What would add to your codeplug to contact the Tristate DMR via your hotspot? In this video you used a repeater frequecy to connect to the repeater. How do you contact tristate with a hotspot?
The procedure is the same for a hotspot. The only difference is that you'll use the simplex frequency of the hotspot rather than a repeater pair. To activate the talkgroup, you'll transmit momentarily on tristate to activate it on the hotspot and then you can go to Talk talkgroup to carry on a conversation.
I had to check on your statement about different radio id for each radio. My quick search gave me the exact opposite answer. ( as in I only need one I’d for all my radios. Don’t need to get separate ones. ) now I am confused.
I may have misspoke in the video, but you only need one DMR ID per person. Multiple radios can use the same DMR ID. But if you plan on using two DMR radios at the same time, you may want a second ID to differentiate between the two.

Hello, I am trying to follow and modify for the Chicago and other repeaters. Would the only things change are the frequencies and color codes? I keep getting "Connect Fail" on all talkgroups. I have a new Radioddity rd-5r. once i get it to work, how can I change repeaters if roaming is not an option?
So you programmed the frequencies with what was supposed to be a 5mhz offset however you programmed it with a 6mhz offset. Did you catch that? Great video though.

You'll have to contact the repeater trustee to find out what color codes they use and talk groups they support. Many repeater groups also have websites that list their talk group and color code combination for their repeaters.
I think it would make an excellent first radio. The only downside is that there is a bit of a learning curve with programming it. But once you get over that hurdle (and it's really not that bad), it will work just fine for analog and digital.
Have you checked out the Chicagoland network of DMR repeaters? I think there's one in your neck of the woods and there are a lot more talk groups without the hassle of connecting to reflectors.
There's not a DMR repeater in the Wausau, WI area yet, but it looks like a Chicagoland machine might be on its way. At least there's a spot marked on the DMR-MARC repeater map. I'll be in Madison in a couple weeks, so I'll check out the system while I'm down there.

I use a TYT UV MD380 and when I name a DMR channel in one zone for ex. Local and I use the same label in another zone, it will not let me do that. So I have to spell it out so as to not create a duplicate, which should not matter. Local or LOCAL should not result in an error message from the program. Any ideas? Tnx de WB4UR :)
Unlink is private group code 4000 and it allows you to disconnect from a talk group. Status is code 5000 and transmitting it will give you the talk group number you are on. These codes are handy for checking your status or disconnecting from a talk group when you are using a hotspot device.

After adding the talk groups to the contact list and creating the channels for the repeater, did you also add them to the zone list?

I was under the understanding Reflectors where used in DSTAR.. Confusing with the terms... I am DMR only not DSTAR.

When you added all your channels i noticed the last one is labeled unlink and one is labeled status. Can you explain that?
