As someone who had a Nintendo Virtual Boy in the 90s, i've always thought VR was a gimmick. 30 years later, it still hasn't evolved past being an expensive gimmick.
I disagree with people saying VR is a niche market. It was incredibly mainstream when the oculus and htc arrived. The problem was the pricing, not the interest. Once Vr becomes more affordable i suspect we will see another boom of it.
VR is a niche market, where you need to buy a different headset for every game you want to play. HL:Alyx is only PCVR, AC Nexus only META , Resident Evil and Horizon only on PSVR. I have an Oculus Rift S and for some reason I can't even play Oculus Quest games. Not enough games and too many exclusives. And nobody wants to spend so much money on something you can only use for few days and than put away for the rest of the year.
VR is niche so you need all the games you can get. The moment Sony decided not to have backwards compatibility, the PSVR2 was doomed to fail and whoever decided that has a brain the size of a pea.
@@PixelzNcreatureZ "They just didn't want to put in the effort" described the problem perfectly. How hard it is is not my problem, I am the customer. It's their problem. If they fail to make a product good enough to be bought by me, I will not feel sorry for them. It is simply them failing to do their job.

It's not that easy. VR1 games used cameras that don't translate instantly to VR2. It can be done, they just didn't want to put in the effort
