If I worked for Sony I'd advise them to do something like oculus' deal with Samsung to distribute the gear VR, instead I'd tell them to produce a comfortable low cost headset & bundle it with a lot of different phone releases for free & have it work like the gear does, by having it link to a PS store app that shows compatible PSVR games that would work on modern phones.
That way you are brute forcing people into trying it and will get a lot of people hooked, it'll also drum up a lot of sales for mobile conversions of VR games.
Its a simple logic chain, they need exposure, the only exposure in VR is experience, you need to get as many people experienced as possible so logically it has to be done that way.
Hell Its not even a hard thing to do, they just need to offer a small cut of digital sales to phone manufacturiers & they'll probably jump at the chance to make the damn headsets themselves, the PS4 controller connects to phones as well so that's covered. Its mind boggling they haven't done this.

Fuzzy Duo That’s quite an interesting idea and I see the merit in it. At this point I think it’s pretty much reached it’s tipping point where before long a friend of a friend will have one. It’s becoming more and more affordable and even as we peer over the edge of the next generation this technology will be impressive to someone even if they see it for the first time in two years. What do you think?

@PT Hamilton I had no interest in psvr tried my friends I bought one the next day, its been so much fun. Still kinda new to it but favorite games and must haves in my opinion are astro bot and moss for a more relaxed game, beat saber is surprisingly fun I thought I was going to hate it and just got it with the bundle but it might be my favorite, until dawn rush of blood is one of the craziest gaming experiences I've ever had highly recommend. I'm a little conflicted on super hot, it's an amazing game and I'm really liking it but sometimes the tracking on throwing things or quick motions feels finicky, far point and borderlands are amazing but I feel like the aim controller is a must and I have been getting motion sick from borderlands 2 if I play for more than 30 minutes havent had that problem with any other games but hopefully just getting used to it still. I've been getting a little bored and jaded with games lately and psvr has realy sparked my interest in gaming again, it's amazing and I have at least 10-20 more games I want to pick up for it once I finish some.

Just make sure you get your play area set up well, and that will keep the issues minimized. If you move out of the camera's frame the games get buggy, so make sure you are back far enough for the motion of movement the game requires and a dark room is helpful.

I have both the PSVR on a PS4 Pro and an Oculus Rift on a high end PC and I love both.
The Pro's of PSVR for me compared to my Oculus Rift :
    - Comfortable for longer sessions and easy to put on even when the user wears glasses
    - Easy to set up without too many calibration steps
    - You can see the controller you are holding inside most games and that even goes for the dual shock controller and that makes it easier to find a certain button when you cannot see your controller for real. And a good example would be Battle Zone where I cannot see the XBox One controller on the Oculus.
    - More complete VR games available or normal games with VR extra's that other platforms do not have
    - Official Aim Controller, this is a must have for games like Borderlands 2 VR and other first person VR shooters
    Downside of PSVR
    - No room scale or full 360 tracking, so if your move controllers are not visible by your camera they will do weird stuff
    - You need to be aware of lights in the background because when holding the move controller in front of a light source the tracking might be off
    - Missing thumb sticks on the move controllers but many games still make good use of them.
    - Items in the distance might be a bit more blurry looking compared to my Oculus Rift because of the lower resolution, but it doesn't make the game play worse.
    - No modding, and a good example would be the game Beatsaber that has many mods for extra songs and customizing
    - I have the first model and over time the rubber of the headband on the back starts peeling off because of usage, but it still works fine.
I do think the PSVR is worth it even more now because of the library of games available but before you buy I would advise to try one first if possible. I had some friends who thought it was the most amazing thing ever and some couldn't even wear it for 10 seconds when they where driving in a VR game. I also required to take breaks between short VR sessions at start and a session would be 15 to 20 minutes. But over time I am able to play for hours now and that is great when playing games like Skyrim VR.
Not all games are great tho and it's best to check what content in a game is VR when it supports it. For example Moto Racer 4 supports VR but it is without AI to race against and that just sucks.
If you want to decide to buy VR but are not sure to get it for PC or PS4, then first make sure your PC can handle it because a slow frame rate is the most horrible thing in VR. And for the rest it depends on what games you really want to play. If you want to play Minecraft VR, then you must go with PC, but if you want to play Resident Evil VII in VR then you have to have the PSVR. And even if games are available on both, sometimes the PSVR is better and sometimes the PC. Doom VFR plays best on PSVR with Aim controller, because of bad controls on the PC (no turning available with thumbstick). Beatsaber is a bit harder to choose, because the move controllers feel better then the Oculus touch controllers when holding your virtual lightsabers, but the precision and modding makes the PC version far better. Battle Zone looks more clear in the distance on PC, but in the PSVR version I can see my virtual controller.
I hope this wall of text helps some of you.

I thought it was crazy how they added the light bar to the top of the dualshock4 controllers when ps4 first came out, these move controllers came out 10 years ago, and then in 2016 when PSVR came out, how they implemented the lights on both for the vr tracking, as if they had some idea all those years ago. However, I do feel like it's really old; kind of a basic idea that doesn't give you the most accurate tracking and lights interfering and stuff. They will surely upgrade with the next console generation and psvr2. I cant believe it's been about 3 years that I first played VR games

I had extreme motion sickness for the first week or 2. Play in short 15-20 minute bursts on static games that have little to no motion then work your way up to games that have more motion over time.
If you start to feel any motion sickness or fatigue. Stop playing immediately, wait an hour or two or until next day when you feel better. play, rinse and repeat.
Play standing to get your VR legs under you for the first few days,
Play with a fan blowing on your face to help trick your mind into thinking that you're moving.
Chew ginger root, tablets, gum etc.Ginger has been shown to be effective in treating the nausea associated with motion sickness.
Statik is a great starting game as you're just sat in a chair solving really unique puzzles. Astrobot is my personal favourite.
To summarise, I could barely play for 5 minutes when i played for the first time. over the course of a week or 2 following the tips i've presented, I can now play a solid 10 hours straight on games such as Skyrim, RE7, Doom, Astrobot, Borderlands 2, Firewall zero hour etc. It just takes patience, and time for your mind to acclimate to what you're seeing.
      Hope this helps.

I bought a PS4 VR set about 10 months ago. My experiences have been nearly universally positive. My best gameplay expeience would go to Superhot VR and WipEout Omega Collection, and most immersive visuals would be Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7.
If I have one real negative it would be that the cable is permanently wired into the headset, and in a position that adds strain every time you set the unit down. It's likely going to be the main point of failure of the headset in the future.

Slow adoption? What are you talking about? Psvr took off at launch and has dominated over the more polished pc hardware because it's so affordable! Most people buying it already had a ps4, and those that didn't realize that to do pc vr would cost way more than buying the ps4+psvr. Most users didn't have the minimum required specs, or what was required 2 years ago. 1050/1060 cards are in budget pcs now but weren't then. Even now you still aren't going to get pc vr for $700 if you don't already have a pc that can run vr.

Also, compared to Rift and Vive the PSVR setup is a breeze. Not having to deal with all the stuff that PCVR brings along with it (sensor setup, gpu drivers, performance tweaking, operating system problems, etc.) is also a plus. For non tech-savy people PSVR is just the most convenient option, now Rift S and WMR devices are trying to make that PCVR entry easier too, which is a good way to go imo.
I say that as a Rift, Vive, Pimax 5k+ and soon to be Quest owner, PSVR is what got me into VR in the first place. I've sold it because the superior tracking and better controllers of PCVR are preferable to me, it'll always be one of my favorite VR systems though.

Yeah I kept reacting every time he mentions that its not doing well or its high price ^_^ Ehhm... it’s doing very well, and it doesnt cost that much. He even puts up the 4M+ units sold. That IS a healthy number! For a new tech, any company would be pleased with those numbers, and Sony have said as much.
@Nils I actually found my Vive setup to be a breeze! Certainly felt like less cables, and everything just worked. There was no drivers/performance/OS tweaking/issues. I only got the PSVR this week (in anticipation of Dreams) and even as a tech person I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount of cables involved! I mean there was nothing difficult about it either I guess. The SDE has been the most impressive thing about the PSVR so far for me. For something so inexpensive and first gen. But in equal measure, the resolution is trash.

I thought to myself, even though I already had a Meta Quest 2, and I'd heard that the quality of the PSVR isn't as good as the Quest 2, I couldn't resist the incredible price. Even though I had a PS4, a second-hand PSVR with the camera included was still over 200 dollars. This time, the price had dropped to less than 30 dollars. I immediately bought it.
I have a PS3, so I already had the Move controllers. But even though I bought it, I kept it in the corner and didn't play it. I continued to use my Quest 2 every day. Recently, I tried setting it up and found some PS4 exclusive games to play. OMG! It's amazing. While its resolution isn't as good as the Quest 2, the quality of its exclusive games is fantastic. I really regret not buying the PSVR Aim Controller when it was also very cheap in Japan at that time.

Skyrim and RE7 are a must, i played Skyrim since day one on the 360 and bought the Special edition on X1 and must have spent 1000's of hours on it but playing in VR is a whole different experience i just wish they would consider GTA 5 and Alien isolation VR pLz!.

Am waiting for a new version of PS VR with better cable management. Once PS5 rolls out (VR Ready), i believe a new & better VR unit will come out aswell, and then I'll become a PS VR user 😊

    • @HereticDuo
      @HereticDuo 5 лет назад

      I wouldn't count on it.
PSVR 2 will most likely be a year later, especially considering last week we got the official announcement that PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games & PSVR will work on PS5.
They wouldn't of mentioned that at the first official announcement of PS5 if they were planning to have a VR2 launch with it.

    • @JohnnyKan
      @JohnnyKan 5 лет назад

@@HereticDuo They won't mention anything about PS VR 2, especially now that PS5 is hot because of marketing (releasing/announcing 2 expensive units close each other it's gonna hurt the sales) . Most likely to announce new VR after 3 years of PS5 released date.
However am pretty sure that they will release a new PSVR with better cable management at some point.

I have had one an the #1 problem with it is that it doesn’t want to center right, so if you wanna play firewall VR jus be aware that you aren’t gonna be able to move outside of that small blue square without your controller just completely not reacting at all.

He convinced me to play some vr tonight. I haven't in a while because one, it tends to be kinda tedious to put on the headset and stuff instead of just launching a game after work or something, and second, I have the first model that doesn't support HDR passthrough or HDCP 2.2 or whatever so it lowers the RGB to YUV420 and crap and the colors aren't as great; very noticeable on a Qled TV and ps4 pro. Another reason I kept it unplugged is because the processor box was always on when the console was, even in rest mode. I fall asleep watching TV and it put itself in rest mode and my box now permanently makes a noise with its fan when it used to be silent and I dont want it breaking. It was easy to buy games for at first, I almost bought all of em because there weren't that many. There are so many that have came out, I have no idea what's good or what to buy now, but i have over 45 vr games already. Beatsaber is super intense. A bit difficult at first but then you get good but the levels on insane are exactly that. My wrists will hurt and I sweat soo much that the carpet gets wet from where I'm standing

It's not just a VR experience, it's an actual game. One character for each role, enemies to fight in an assortment of missions, each person having different but equally important positions that all need to work together and communicate well to win out in space stealth missions, space fights, etc etc. Absolutely a god game, ubisoft make better vr games than non tbh with stuff like that and werewolves within.

Great video! I actually did buy psVR in late 2019 with an epic bundle I couldn't resist on Black Friday weekend...It came with 5 games: Resident Evil, Skyrim, Everybody's Golf, PlayStation Worlds and the Astro Bot game...All for just $300 Canadian!! Can you believe I never got around to playing it though...and it was sitting there!! I already had 2 Move controllers from the PS3 era, so I'm good to go...Now that I'm back from winter vacation, gunna set this up and give it a whirl! I'm excited!
And thankyou for saying it supports 3D BluRay! I thought you need a special blu ray player for that, and the TV, and the glasses...No wonder 3D movies never took off at home, but now maybe they can make a comeback in VR? 😆

The other big negative is that if you have the original PSVR set, you can't use HDR while it's hooked up (the VR processing unit doesn't pass HDR signals).
