Bruce's operatic range fits better with the song writing style of Steves. They were being classified as "punk" in some circles. I don't think Steve wanted that. His vision was something to equal Priest.
I stumbled into one like 5 months after beast over Hammersmith better than the band listed on ticket on concert setlist. What a treat and my best concert ever.
Thank God Paul sang on the first 2 albums. Iron Maiden needed that raw attitude. Bruce Dickinson couldn't do it. Blaze Bayley was the only one who ever got close to Paul Di`Anno when doing old Maiden songs.
Interesting. These sound like the original tracks, but with Bruce's voice on them, and with some additional remixing going on, especially on "Wrathchild" and "Killers," where the guitars are clearer and more classic sounding in this mix.

Maiden played at Reading in 1981 underneath UFO. But Samson played in 1980 and 1981. Samson were on the same bill as Maiden. That's when Bruce's involvement came soon after then.
Yes. And wasn't Lizzy also heavily audible on Leppard's ''On through the night'', along with UFO? Most of NWOBHM early material(s) live and thrive on those two legends' dna (adding a bit of Priest). I'd say Maiden have always given their best for originality, seeking authentic inspiration on previous good stock, and that might involve JethroTull and early Wishbone Ash, plus the aforementioned sacred calves. I don't listen to contemporary Maiden, but from 1979 to 88 i did musically follow on their steps (apart from others), and one may agree that in those 9 years they sort of outgrew Purple in power and popularity around the world ( and i was ten in 73, i remember a bit how it was with Deep Purple). On another note, yes i agree the early Bruce Bruce suggested strong Gillan inspiration ( and there's nothing wrong with that).

Something there is no training for is timbre. Either you have a pleasant timbre in the voice or you don't. It's genetics. I can understand your preference. I also prefer DiAnno in his best moments. Very natural singer with a completely own vision of what fits and how it should sound. Like David Lee Roth and Udo Dirkschneider and the likes. Voices with original personality that doesn't fit traditional measurements. DiAnno could sing traditional stuff when at his best also. He had the coolest vibrato.
I think Paul D’Ianno was perfect for the band until he wasn’t. Then Bruce Dickinson was perfect for the band, until he chose not to be. And we mustn’t speak of Blaze… that was an attempt to do something akin to the first two albums, and it just didn’t work. And as much as i love, love Bruce’s voice, i feel it’s time for them to tie up loose ends, and call it a day. None of us can sing at that high of a level forever. Our voices just dont work that way. They are organic instruments, and they age, change, and lose their ability to perform as before. I’d just love for them to retire before they become a parody of themselves.
