I bought the 668B's about 5 months ago for $47, and I don't regret it at all. (Disclaimer: I enjoy good audio, but I'm not what most audiophiles call an audiophile.) The sound is the best I've ever heard from anything at this price, I only have 1 and 1/2 complaints My first problem with these headphones is their durability. After about one week of use, I had them sitting on my desk one day, went to move my chair, and they caught the arm and fell about 3 feet onto the floor. When I picked them up, they had 2 cracks in them, one on each of the bars that go around the top of the headphones. The second problem is moot, but some people don't like the pleather earcups or the pleather alien probes at the top of the headphones. I personally didn't mind the alien probes, but It does get kindof uncomfortable after wearing them for about an hour. Final verdict: Buy the headphones, and get some Velour earpads to go with them. 8/10, well played, China :)
I'm so glad I found this video. Because of this video I picked up a pair for $40, and I am absolutely loving them. Once you play with the EQ a bit they really come alive. I find dropping the high treble bands slightly and boosting around 1k really helps. Hopefully they last.
Just got the Superlux hd668b and can say that they are now my favorite headphones. They simply cannot be beat at the price point they are offered at. I recommend getting some velour pads though (I will be soon) because the pleather (?) pads that come with them make them very hot for extended listening periods. Highly recommend these headphones!
I have had a pair of 681's for 2 years now and have recently upgraded to the audio technica ath m-50x. The 681's sound great for the money. One thing that I have noticed is that the ear cups are a little bit uncomfortable and the sound is VERY bright. Other than this they have good frequency response and are an overall great sounding pair of headphones and I would totally recommend these for anyone looking for headphones under $50.
The stock earcups aren't very good on the 668b's but just spend $7 more on Amazon and get cosmos velour/velvet cups and then you can beat these under $50. I'm saying this after buying both the 668bs and cosmos replacement cups. definitely reccomended
I just bought the 668Bs and I'm impressed. The bass is actually more punchy even than my $150 Audio-Technica ATH-A700s. They don't creak and make loud noises when putting them on or off. They also don't leak that much sound even though they are semi-open. The sound stage is very acceptable for FPS gaming. All those little sounds have accurate direction.
@@Daniel-gz1nf Well, a lot has changed over 4 years. I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD58X Jubilees. Absolutely fantastic headphones for the money.
I can recommend the whole superlux brand, I've got the HD 661's which are very good, my friend has the 668B's and is also very satisfied. If you doubt them just give them a try, but I guarantee you won't be dissapointed
Got a pair of the 688Bs for Christmas and daaaaaamn do the sound so much better than the shitty Logitech headset/mic I was using before. Definitely really open, so the external noise is nuts, but for the quality I can deal with it. Didn't see the overpowering highs like a lot of other people have been mentioning.
Great review, thank you. I watched it at 50% speed with subtitles and kept stopping it to digest it all, and I am almost sure I got a good portion of what was bring said here about them. Thanks again.
yayy! poor peoples option! thank you! one tip tho, when you are reviewing and comparing more than one product, you could somehow have some visual cue as to which one your talking about like a photo in the corner so that I dont have to sort out the model numbers in my head as I go.
Nine years later and I just replaced my two year old Superlux HD-681 EVO headphones with another set of Superlux HD-681 EVO, because they still remain some of the best value under $50 even in 2023. 😁
681s sound pretty good, but the headband ripped on several spots after just a few weeks of normal use, and they are very uncomfortable to wear for longer time. (sweaty ears, too much pressure, they push down on your ears since the cussions are too small) After around 4-5 months the cable started to stiffen up, one month later the wires inside started to crack, causing a slack joint. Edit: while typing this, the last milimeter of material holding the headband just gave up LOL
This is still recommended. The best sounding budget headphones with great soundstage. Superlux HD681 non-EVO version or the red one. Great for gaming and music, because near flat bass, almost flat mid, and boosted treble to help you to find clipping or distortion in music.
@@syahmim2897 I have had 4 pairs of 681 evo. Sadly, every broke the same way - cable comming from left panel. Have you tested AKG k240? How do they perform in comparision to those superluxes?
Was looking for a gaming headset a year ago, almost bought siberias, read some audiophile forums, ended up with 668B, sockmoded them and I love them. Great for many uses, good for gaming, music production, voicechatting.
Love that you have just as much a headphone passion as I do, Logan. If you haven't already tried them, the HD280 Pro is what I would define as pretty damn close to flat. Their high extension isn't as good as other headphones though. You should check out the Shure SRH440, they're also very flat but their low frequency extension isn't as great. More comfy though.
So how do these compare to Creative headsets in this price range like the Tactic 3d alpha?Just wondering because i have those but one of the sides broke so i'm thinking of buying a new set.
That statement is just not true. The Grado Sr60 is just better in every way (except isolation). In addition, you might also consider the Koss Pro DJ200 for something more portable.
I`ve had 668B for about 2.5 years now and I could not be more pleased with them. Sound is excellent and comfort in extended use is good as well. I did replace the original pleather pads with AKG velour pads, which makes them more comfortable to wear, but everything else is stock. These headphones have been dropped on hard floor dozens of times with no ill effect as well, so durability is also quite good in my experience. Tremendous value for the money.
How do either of these two match up against the Audio Technica M40x? I'm planning on using them for music listening and very amateur music projects on GarageBand.
I don't know what's the sound signature of the m40x, but I do know the sound signature of the m50x so that might be helpful. Reply if you want me to tell you the differences between the m50x and Superlux cans.
If I had to give you numbers as an idea of how the signature sounds, with 0/10 being having no bass, 5/10 being flat or neutral, and 10/10 being having overwhelming bass, I'd say that for bass... the m50x's would be a 7/10 the Superlux 668B would be around 5.5 to 7.0 Treble on the other hand, m50x's treble is a little underwhelming like at a 3 with the Superlux's at a 7.
I have the 668B for 10 years. Nowadays with a phone with quad DAC I'm glad I had chose this model because of the 56ohms. It's really a worth headphone. At time I ordered other two Superlux models for my brother and mother and they still use them.
Uhm I paid 32€. Do you think that comes with leather pads included? Pretty unlikely right. To answer your question: Yes, it is definitely artificial leather.
It's been 2 years since I have my pair of HD-668B, still awesome. BUT, you want clean and deep basses, you have to have something powerfull enough to power, what I mean is : -If I listen music with my smartphone (which by the way kinda old now (2 years)), at high volume, there is distortion in the basses and a bit in the trebles. Even some PCs (school) can't fully drive the basses at top volume. -If i listen music with a "dedicated" hardware like an MP3, at full volume, basses are just gorgeous and sooo deep, with no distortion. So there you go ! Best headphones under 50$, maybe at even 40 or 30$ in some places. PS : I listen something like 3 hours of music daily, which may not seem much, but 3 hours daily, for 2 years, every single day and yet, the 1m and 3m cords are brand new, and so is the headset : not a single repair, but I'm considering changing the pads, which are getting a bit old and scratched.
Got the 668 and added the AKG velours, brought up the comfort level and made them sound a bit more open. Tried damping the highs with tissue etc but didn't sound good, the pad swap was enough for me. Comfort wise they're pretty much a match for my Beyerdynamic dt250 but lighter all round. Well impressed for the price.

As far as I'm concerned, not being a basshead, the HD681 has far too much bass. I find the HD681F (F= Flat) model to be far better. All that bass in the HD681 spills over and distorts the mids.
I've been pondering over getting either the 681 or 668B for months now... this video is so pleasing to watch, knowing all my research paid off! Now I've got to get myself a pair!
Just buy the Superlux HD681 EVO for crying out loud! It's a Superlux HD681 with a removable cord and smoother (more bearable) treble. The price is 50$. The treble on the Superlux hd681 will cause physical pain, so don't buy them for the love of everything holy!
aizatader umaga What's the inner diameter with the velour pads? I'm sick of my old steelseries 3H (cheapos) clamping on my ear. Measured my ear height/length to about 6 cm, so will my entire ear fit inside the velour without any clamping on it? Cheers!
The inner diameter is 5cm which is stupid because the headphones are huge and no adult human being has ears smaller than 5cm. Plus the headband clamps hard in some areas and feels loose in other places. Long story short: the ergonomics are terrible. That being said, I can still wear them for 1~2 hours no problem.
Chupick Nicolas Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it :) Guess I'll have to look further then, comfort is priority one for my next HPs. Maybe I'll have to bite the apple and pay out $200-400 for some comfy beyerdynamics - or at least they look very comfy, gotta go test at a store.
Glenn Kristian Saue I own a pair of DT-880 Pros. They're the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I frequently forget I'm wearing them and will get up out of my computer chair without taking them off first. If you decide to go for some DT-880s, I would recommend hitting up Ebay. You can pick up a pair of the Premiums for $240. That's hardly any more expensive than a pair of the Pros. Just remember that you'll need a Headphone AMP if you get a pair with a higher output impedance. I picked up a FiiO E10 DAC/AMP since I bought the 250 ohm 880s. However, they do sell a 32 ohm version which doesn't need an AMP.
To anyone interested, try adding extra wire between pads and the cans, it will add time for lower frequency fill the gap and will blend in better with mid and hi, as pushing the driver further the ears. Also, try adding filter cloth to front of the driver to lessen the hi frequency. Did this from the start, it has better improve soundstage, balance and you feel like your listening to two set of speaker with subwoofer, the reverb and delays are clean, it blends well with treated room. the games audio are immersive.
I got the 668B a couple years ago and I'm very satisfied with their sound. I'm not into the high quality audio scene , but for me as the average consumer these headphones met all my expectations. They aren't the most fashionable, but for just at home playing games or for music they are better than most that you can get for $40.
Don't buy the Superlux HD681 (the ones with the red stripes), I had a pair, they are harsh and trebley as hell, like really really really unpleasant in the high frequencies. I have the Superlux HD681b now and they are great, same price but balanced sound (that ''b'' is for balanced).
I've been using the 668B as a monitor for actually making music (keyboard, vocals) since 2010 or so and they are just brilliant. I had one pair fail on me after a while (rather a long one), but got new on warranty -- no problems what so ever with those. I can strongly recommend! For gaming they are alright, although I prefer something lighter and more "open".
Bought them 7 years ago (hd668b) and still work, use them to play guitar on plugins like Neural DSP etc. and listening music on them, for that price theyre a no brainer, hard to find anything better in that price point
+Bartek I have both. The Takstars are better for music and probably slightly better overall but the Superlux HD668B are better for gaming because they have a better sound stage.
I've bought the 681 ones. The problem with the 681 are very tremblish? But I have found the solution. I use Sonarworks. Sonarworks improved my 681 ten times better! They are flat!
Great! Cant wait to get them (668b). Thanks btw Was also looking for sennheiser, but many cheaper models have really thin and undetachable cable which doesnt last long as users say.
THANKS SO MUCH. I have been looking at the Superlux 668B for so long and am about to buy it. Ive been looking at it for 3 months considering buying it for gaming but have been looking for someone besides people on the forums to say something about it.
Just got my 668Bs, love them. Although I must say: change out the pads. The stock pads, although very comfortable, do get warm and sweaty after 40-50min of usage. Other wise, these cans are fantastic for $40. Now to attach an Antlion Mic Mod and boom, ready to game.
Haven't tried these pads myself, but the 668B's are very similar, if not identical to AKG headphones in terms of the cups. If it fits on AKG headphones, it will most likely fit the 668B's. The velour pads I got were meant for AKG headphones and they fit the 668B's with a bit of stretching. Not enough stretch where it would do any damage whatsoever. Give it a shot, I'm pretty sure it'll work out beautifully. If it works, please let me know how these pads feel. I think it's time to try new pads.
I have a Plantronics Gamecom 680 Headset. Was only about 60 dollars (AUD) and for the money they are fantastic! Very comfortable, well adjustable, and the sound is excellent. Definitely recommend them.
I used the 681 for about a year and I have to agree, the best bang for you buck (I only paid 20 €). Very nice sound and comfortable. One thing I didnt like was the leather pads. What I would suggest is getting a set of akg velour pads and replace those. Then you got the perfect pair of headphones in that price range.
I love them. They are more comfortable than my DT 770 Pro. Mainly because they are lighter and semi-open. The only con are plastic ear pads causing sweat in the skin contact area.
Can anyone tell me? Because I am super confused on which headphones to buy. I narrowed my selection to sennheiser hd-202, monopeice hd djs and superlux 668b. If anyone could help then I will appreciate it. Thanks
As someone who owns both the 681s and a pair of AKG Q701s hooked up to a Schiit Magni/Modi stack, I have to say the 681s are the best cans for the money, ever. They give you 95% of the SQ of the Q701s for only $30, don't need an amp, and they're much more comfortable. Just buy them.
Bought a pair of 668B for £30 and they are very good, slightly sharp highs, but a nice amount of bass (maybe slightly on the loud side), and a nice fit. Thanks for your review, best £30 I have spent on headphones! And FWIW I am comparing them to my HD650s using a FiiO E07K amp.

i have the 681 evo and they are damn amazing with the velour pad.Glad i skipped turtle beach and bought this headphone with the atr2500 mic
aizatader umaga What's the inner diameter with the velour pads? I'm sick of my old steelseries 3H (cheapos) clamping on my ear. Measured my ear height/length to about 6 cm, so will my entire ear fit inside the velour without any clamping on it? Cheers!
The inner diameter is 5cm which is stupid because the headphones are huge and no adult human being has ears smaller than 5cm. Plus the headband clamps hard in some areas and feels loose in other places. Long story short: the ergonomics are terrible. That being said, I can still wear them for 1~2 hours no problem.
Chupick Nicolas Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it :)
Guess I'll have to look further then, comfort is priority one for my next HPs.
Inn 2019 these are still the best headphones under 100 bucks
Shp9500 is way better
@@Juamacao2503 Hi, I own the HD680, will the SHP9500 be an upgrade for me?
I have had the 681's for six months or so, and they have made me happy. I also found some velour pads on ebay for like ten bucks. So worth it.
love the first 10 seconds
I got the 668B a couple years ago and I'm very satisfied with their sound. I'm not into the high quality audio scene , but for me as the average consumer these headphones met all my expectations. They aren't the most fashionable, but for just at home playing games or for music they are better than most that you can get for $40.
Don't buy the Superlux HD681 (the ones with the red stripes), I had a pair, they are harsh and trebley as hell, like really really really unpleasant in the high frequencies. I have the Superlux HD681b now and they are great, same price but balanced sound (that ''b'' is for balanced).
+18francesco18 You can put some paper towel or thicker foam in them if you can't stand the highs
Do a comparison to the ATH-M50s
lol I was just about to ask the same thing
Bought them 7 years ago (hd668b) and still work, use them to play guitar on plugins like Neural DSP etc. and listening music on them, for that price theyre a no brainer, hard to find anything better in that price point
I found better ones: Takstar Hi 2050
Yeah, but cost 30bucks more.
+Aga Bartek I have a Arc SHP-80, that its a Hi 2050 rebrand, and its and awesome headphone and cheaper than HD681.
+Bartek i have both and i must say: superlux are better for games and takstar are better for music
They are flat!
first
nah jk dont start a riot on me.
my 668B s have just arrived, they are really good, it's one of those golden products that have the best quality/price ratio, really rare
Should I buy them for every day use and some gaming??
Great! Cant wait to get them (668b). Thanks
btw Was also looking for sennheiser, but many cheaper models have really thin and undetachable cable which doesnt last long as users say.
which is better for music production in your opinion, of course?
Which one of these two is better? I want to order one of them.
Pulled the trigger on these from your review, thanks!
THANKS SO MUCH. I have been looking at the Superlux 668B for so long and am about to buy it. Ive been looking at it for 3 months considering buying it for gaming but have been looking for someone besides people on the forums to say something about it.
Buy the HD681 EVO instead, it costs 50$ but it has a much smoother treble that will not cause you fatigue.
which one is better for bass/gaming
Just got my 668Bs, love them. Although I must say: change out the pads. The stock pads, although very comfortable, do get warm and sweaty after 40-50min of usage. Other wise, these cans are fantastic for $40. Now to attach an Antlion Mic Mod and boom, ready to game.
The Hifiman velour pads work really nicely on these
Haven't tried these pads myself, but the 668B's are very similar, if not identical to AKG headphones in terms of the cups.
Can this headset(668b) be used on my mobile phone? Will it sound too small?
Luis Lim I use it with my phone all the time actually. It doesn't reach its potential, but it still sounds great through a phone.
superlux 668B or hyperx cloud I ? I priorties music and don't really care about the mic/gaming its just a bonus for me
668b
I have a Plantronics Gamecom 680 Headset.
Was only about 60 dollars (AUD) and for the money they are fantastic! Very comfortable, well adjustable, and the sound is excellent.
Definitely recommend them.
Should I go for the 668B or the Sennheiser HD 429?
What pair should i get then?
Nice review, I've been thinking of getting a superlux to review for my own channel.
IMHO this is the best appropriate headphones for under 50 dollars.
I'm in the UK and i bought a £20 pair of headphones. They are Logitech Dj Style over ear headphones (Tesco LOL) and they are fantastic
Are Condenser Mics good for the price and quality?
trecherous3 yes
I used the 681 for about a year and I have to agree, the best bang for you buck (I only paid 20 €). Very nice sound and comfortable. One thing I didnt like was the leather pads. What I would suggest is getting a set of akg velour pads and replace those. Then you got the perfect pair of headphones in that price range.
I love them. They are more comfortable than my DT 770 Pro. Mainly because they are lighter and semi-open. The only con are plastic ear pads causing sweat in the skin contact area.
I am using 681 seriously its gooood, i handle mine with care 4 months still good as new, i use it for monitor my mixer
Great review. I rly need advice :) Should i buy Superlux 681 or Steelseries Siberia V2 ? Which sounds better?
how do you like the evo's compared to these, i find them to look much better and to come with better ear pads.
Should I get the 681 evo or the sennheiser 429?
would you still recommend the 681's?
comfortable enough for glasses users?
Superlux HD 330s or Superlux 668Bs for gaming?
+w4570 PeeVeePeeS Get the HD668b for gaming, especially if you play faster and competitive titles.
What brand of jacket are you wearing, Logan?
Superlux HD681 or superlux HD681 evo or superlux hd668B for gaming? Which one has the best soundstage?
Can you look at the 681 evo? and compare it to the 681 and 688b?
are the 668B feasible for computer listening or do they need an headphone amp?
Have you compared The 668b to The 681 EVO For Gaming? Which would you recommend if you have sir.
What do you think about gaming on hd668b.
How about ath ad500 and hyperx cloud??
Please reply. Gaming is main preference here.
what would you guys prefer the superlux 661 evo or the superlux 668b?
superlux hd668b or superlux hd681 for gaming? which one has a better soundstage? is it worth an extra $15CAD for the 668B?
can you recommend the best in-ears for under 40-50 dollar?
Can anyone tell me? Because I am super confused on which headphones to buy. I narrowed my selection to sennheiser hd-202, monopeice hd djs and superlux 668b. If anyone could help then I will appreciate it. Thanks
Superlux hd668b or grade sr80e who have a better soundstage?
I'm buying one of these what's better? Grade or superlux
how's the comfort?
As someone who owns both the 681s and a pair of AKG Q701s hooked up to a Schiit Magni/Modi stack, I have to say the 681s are the best cans for the money, ever. They give you 95% of the SQ of the Q701s for only $30, don't need an amp, and they're much more comfortable. Just buy them.
Ok, 668b vs 669 vs 681 for gaming/computer/music use without much sound leak and nice stage?
Bought a pair of 668B for £30 and they are very good, slightly sharp highs, but a nice amount of bass (maybe slightly on the loud side), and a nice fit. Thanks for your review, best £30 I have spent on headphones!
And FWIW I am comparing them to my HD650s using a FiiO E07K amp.
How would you say the soundstage of the 668Bs are compared to the 518s or the 558s? These are the three I am mainly looking at to buy.
Would you say these are better for gaming than the Siberia V2's?
Great review :). Btw, there is a typo in the title of the video. Its 668B not 688B
thanks, fixed.
What eq would you suggest to tone down the treble for Windows 10 users?
