    Florida was fine playing Miami until the Canes became the MIAMI. It all turned around with Lou Saban coming in 1977 and promptly recruiting what some prep magazines said was the number one reciting class. Saban left after 78 and Schnelenberger took over and thats when the problems started foe the Crocodiles. Schnelly proceeded to beat them on a regular basis and the reptiles complained that their schedule in the SEC was to tough to fit Miami. A little known fact at the time is Florida looked into dropping FSU as well but state politicians warned them that they would cut state aid to the school if they did.At the time both FSU and Miami were independents.

    • @williamstelling2164
      @williamstelling2164 2 года назад +1

      Little known fact is you also don't know Florida football politics.. Florida wasn't trying to drop FSU. They didn't play them to begin with. FSU was girls college prior to the 1950's. Uf also saw no point in elevating FSU. FSU and Florida did not play until 1958. Florida's reluctance wasn't because of fear of FSU as UF dominated the series the first 20 plus years. It was over limited state funding for Universities early on and UF saw no reason to elevate a former all girls University that would end up ciphoning funds from UF

    • @williamstelling2164
      @williamstelling2164 2 года назад

      Btw, Florida led the series early and Miami's rise coincided with Florida's probation in the 80's. Miami almost dropped football altogether in the late 70's eatly 80's until UF went on probation. FSU also benefitted from UF penalties as their rise coincided as well. No probation for UF (almost death penalty like SMU) and Miami doesn't rise as quickly. As Florida was coming off it's penalties while not immediate also saw the fall of Miami. UF has maybe been overly conscience of NCAA violations and maybe played it too safe while everyone knows Miami has been cheating it's whole existence. UF didn't do anything Alabama and Miami weren't doing but Alabama who had a lot of pull in the SEC turned UF in despite also paying players.

    What is best for the SEC is getting Virginia and North Carolina and it isn't even close. However, if the B1G comes calling those two will head there over the SEC. They wouldn't give it a second thought. Clemson, Florida St. and Miami doesn't expand the SEC footprint where Virginia and North Carolina does. It isn't all about football results but many don't see that.

    IF the SEC is actually considering expansion and purposely not considering Miami it has LITTLE to do with Florida. It takes a lot of votes to block Miami and Florida's clout is diluted in a 14 team conference. So... who else might not want Miami. ALL the teams that depend on MIAMI talent to keep them elite. In the SEC these include: Alabama, LSU, Auburn. Several other teams also recruit in the area and pull great talent such as Georgia, Tennessee, and others that DONT WANT TO SEE Miami able to build a wall around the greatest recruiting hotspot in the country. You know who else wouldn't want Miami in the SEC? Clemson, FSU, UNC or whoever else the SEC might be interested in. SEC won't want Miami unless they think the B1G might invite them.

    Just realized this, thee SEC is prioritizing Virginia over Miami and VA Tech because Virginia is the one that the Big Ten wants.
    1. Virginia is the Washington to North Carolina's Oregon in football. In football, UNC and UVA are apparently a package deal.
    2. Virginia is one of the *five AAU members in the AAU (Association of American Universities) along with North Carolina. The Big Ten sticks to AAU members (exception Notre Dame), with the only non-AAU in the B1G being former AAU member *Nebraska. BTW the third ACC AAU member is Duke which I don't think the SEC wants, but the Big Ten might consider including to get UNC and UVA. (Edit: Pitt and Ga Tech [Sleeping Giant in Atlanta] are oddball considerations for the Big Ten, but Virginia and North Carolina are the main ones.)
    3. Bonus: the Big Ten has Maryland which is a rival to Virginia (and UNC). The Big Ten can make a pretty nice "East Coast" pod or two from Maryland, UNC, UVA, Penn State, Rutgers, and (if they want them) Duke.
    Virginia over Miami and Va Tech makes more sense Geopolitically than that first appears. Beside the SEC can probably beat the likes of the Big Ten for the likes of Miami, Virginia Tech, others anyway. Fighting the Big Ten for Virginia and North Carolina is the higher priority.

On the other hand, the B1G making a run south from UVA to perhaps even FSU, will both cause the SEC to respond with some more ACC teams, leaving ND nowhere else to go.

    I agree with your first four in. However, Virginia over Miami may not be due to Florida being jerks (although they definitely can be). As for the other three, Clemson and Florida State are widely believed to be the first two in. Nobody debates that. The debate comes with the other two. Miami is definitely in the discussion. 1. It has a national brand. 2. It has a big city market. The problem with Miami, is: 1. Like you said, Florida doesn't want any other teams from Florida. The SEC is already bringing in Florida State so (as an Aggie that felt blind-sided by the addition of Texas) I can kind of understand where they are coming from. 2. There is a feeling that Miami is playing fast and loose with NIL. Personally I don't know how you can play fast and loose with something where the rules haven't really been set. 3. The SEC has shown interest in wanting into the Virginia and North Carolina footprint. I personally think NC State and Virginia Tech would make a better fit in the SEC but UNC and UVA may work (if they don't find their way in to the B1G that is). Another school to consider is Oklahoma State. Yeah, I know it seems like a long-shot. However, it does have a history with Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M, and even a little history with Mizzou. Plus, it's one of the more watched Big 12 schools.

    Miami has 5 National Championship’s … 83. 87, 89, 91 & 2001 ….. Florida doesn’t like playing Miami because they experienced & saw first hand how many Natty’s FSU lost out of because of playing UM …. Now that UM has the NIL & sitting directly in the middle of the hottest recruiting area in America, they’(UF) definitely don’t want any part of having to play UM on a regular basis…. Especially now that UM has hired Cristobal & has one of & arguably the best top coaching staff in college football…. They (UF) knows that if UM enters the SEC, UM will own the state of Florida & possibly be the next Bama like powerhouse team ….. Honestly UF is very scared & terrified of the thought of UM in the SEC …. They don’t fear FSU because they aren’t sitting directly in a hot bed of talent & 5 star recruits …. If UM is accepted in the SEC, it’s a game changer for the Canes & UF will be weeded out & reduced to just an average team that will only get the leftovers table scraps…. In other words, UF will become the next Gamecocks of the SEC bottom dwellers …. Hey Gators …. Y’all can RUN…. But you can’t Hide forever …. []_[]

    Not just Florida. I've been talking about the possibility that both the SEC and Big 10 might tell Miami to gtfo. Mario is killing it on the recruiting trail, imagine if he gets SEC or Big 10 money and a clear path to the national title, he could own Florida recruiting for a decade. All these other schools depend on that Florida talent pool.
    So if the Big 10 and SEC eventually become superconferences that have their own playoffs, they could really screw up Cristobal's plans by locking Miami out of the playoffs and relegating Miami to second tier status. No 5 stars would want to play at a school that cant win a national title. This way, the Bamas and OSUs can still plunder the greatest recruiting grounds in the nation.

Unless any team invited, does not lower the amount each team gets.
    There is no way it would be over 20 teams. They will struggle to get 20 worthwhile teams, plus no way will they accept lower money per school. Why people think there will be 2 expansions and 25 plus teams in the SEC or B1G. Goes back to the SEC teams do not want less money for teams brought in.
    You guys do know the NFL wants to get to 40 teams, right. FOX with ESPN are with the NFL. What a perfect way to get the NFL to 40 teams by having college football having 2 conferences with 40 teams. A practice run..

    It's hard to fill a stadium in Miami gardens because it is too far away from the Campus and it's a private school with a relatively small student body. It's not that it's a pro stadium. It's that it is no where near the campus. Miami has played in a pro-stadium pretty much as long as the dolphins have been a pro-team. Though there was a break where the Orange bowl was mostly theirs and they actually shared with a professional football team that existed BEFORE the dolphins for a bit. The Orange Bowl was closer and built for the school, but it was always a municipal stadium that was, over the years, shared with many other tenants. There is some talk of the Marlins leaving. Their stadium sits on the same footprint. It's amazing though small (37,000). I would guess the city would want Miami to move back there and it's closer. It also hosts a bowl game already so it's fine for football. If they could add 10,000 seats it would suit Miami's needs for all games except FSU, UF and maybe a few B1G games that have a lot of Florida alums like Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan. As is, it is state of the art and would do fine for many games.

Universities like Texas, UGA, and Bama usually have 50k or more students. Miami only has like 16k. That matters. Two, the on-campus stadium is a problem as you stated. But overall their facilities are lacking. Three, Miami is private. Look at the list of SEC universities. How many are named "The University of _____". A bunch of them, because, the SEC likes big state universities. Four, no state in the SEC footprint has more than two universities. That will not change anytime soon, but if it did the most likely state to get three would be Texas due to its size. Now once Texas has a third, Florida could be the next one after that.

    According to Forbes: Florida State is the 14th most valuable brand in college athletics that is valued at $ 96 million. Florida State University is a large public university with alumni/ boosters/ fans through out the State of Florida, around the nation as well. The only other ACC member was Clemson at 25. Leaving Florida State behind would cause an uproar in the Legislature. Additionally, Florida State University & the University of Florida have a great working relationships ensuring both institutions receive the lions share of educational funding each legislative session. Another thing about Florida State, is that it is located within driving distance of a majority of the SEC teams. This follows a pattern of having 2 SEC teams in one state, and FSU is a public university with excellence in academics. The State of Florida cut Florida State University a check for $125 million for a laboratory & research 5 story building, on the campus of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, that will sit on the 155 acres TMH main campus. Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Georgia, Florida are an easy drive along with other teams I did not mention. Culturally, Florida State, and Clemson fit right in, passionate fans, and 80,000+ seat stadiums. It is a very long drive to Miami. That being said Florida State has been in early discussions with both the SEC & the B1G, who wanted to assure FSU that if had not yet achieved AAU status, that would not hinder an invitation to join B1G. Most boosters would prefer playing down South, November can be quite cold in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and and other schools up North. But, I would rather join the SEC, staying South of the Mason-Dixon Line, and renew some old rivalries. I don’t expect any movement before 2025. Almost every school is looking at how to break the GOR, and their appear to be a couple ways that would require a coordinated exit of marque brands, and ESPN to abolish/tear up the contract and move schools from the ACC to the SEC. Those schools left behind would need to try to add some schools in an attempt to resurrect a new ACC, or dissolve (implode) the conference due to the ACC teams that left to join other leagues. ESPN is the biggest player in realignment and I am curious what ESPN has to say in this renegotiations.

Florida State sports are currently property of ESPN. I don’t see them handing over one of their hot commodities to B1G & FOX. It’s likely they would move FSU to the SEC; however, it is nice to have options and I don’t anticipate any other marquee programs moving before 2025. Both ESPN & FOX are the drivers in this new era of college athletics. I pray they don’t destroy college football in the process. ✌🏼

      Really? If FSU went to the B1G it would be due to being in a package with UVA through GATECH, ending up in a regional sub-division.

      That's why it's called a "poach" rather than a "trade" in a lot of cases.

    Don't want Miami in SEC. They have a bad reputation from earlier seasons(back in the 80s?) when they were known as Thug U and it was well deserved. They bring nothing the SEC doesn't already have. It would just empower Miami as a SEC member at the expense of Fla.

      @@adrianflemming1898 FSU probably doesn't bring any value, but it brings more than Miami. It's got a lot bigger fan base, and although they've been awful lately, apparently they get good TV numbers. As for Virginia and NC, in case you haven't noticed, the SEC is looking at grabbing flagship programs. If SEC expands again, I doubt they'll go past 18 in Clemson and NC.

    @ Gold and Blue Dude - Miami and Florida State BOTH turned down invites to join the S.E.C. in the year 1990. It is a FACT that you can easily look up for yourself. Florida does not want to play Miami every year because of their S.E.C. schedule. It makes zero sense to add Miami to an already difficult schedule. Saying that Florida is the reason that Miami will or will not get in is just ignorant and pure speculation. Stop bashing Florida without having Facts to back up what you are claiming.
