2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited vs The Minivan Review

- While shopping for minvans, the Highlander Hybrid came jumping out and making my decision even harder. They're both so similar yet different. The 2014/2015 Highlander is all new and in my opinion, one of the best executed Toyotas in the line-up. It's pretty good looking, carries 8 passengers, has AWD, and gets incredible fuel economy.

great review, nice filming angles.
Fantastic review Brian!
Really good review. Good work.
wow, what an enjoyable review to sit and watch!
Great review!
Great review
Thank you for this excellent review.
Amazing video!
Good review. I look forward to see how this Highlander compares to the 2016 Honda Pilot when it comes out this summer.
Good review. I'm considering a regular Highlander.
My wife got a 2014 highlander platinum limited btw and she absolutely love everything about it. She wanted to get the fully loaded 2014 sienna ltd, but after driving this beast and a couple other crossovers like the lincoln mkc and mkx, and a couple others (can't remember the names right now) she opted to go with this beauty. Anyone you get I'm sure you would enjoy. Also have you considered looking at the 2015 kia sedona as well, because that minivan (or whatever kia calls it) looks pretty sweet.
Nice review. Makes me happy in my choice to buy the highlander.
Great review! I just wish you had shown us the third row seat more. Does it fit adults?
Excellent review, thank you. May I ask your opinion on weather the extended Toyota warranty is worth the additional expense? Just concerned with the extra technology in the limited model and if it may be prudent to get the additional coverage? Thank you for your advise.
Hi Michael CAS, I don't know what the salesman was talking about. There should be no noise from the sunroof. I will take the Highlander on the highway later today to confirm but pretty sure, this is not normal.
Thanks for this great review.
I test drove a 2015 highlander hybrid limited this weekend. It was great until we hopped on the highway. The loud wind noise from the panoramic moon roof was a complete turn off. The sales agent was like "this is normal..." The loud noise is similar to an opened window in the back seat.
Did you experience the same loud wind noise?
5:25 - Classic waiting music!
Yes Jon, you and Kate definitely needed something bigger with eight kids.
Great review thanks. The production quality is crazy good. How the heck did you get that elevating camera shot?
Hi CBS. That shot was down with a drone.
Nawaz, I guess it would depend on how much they wanted to charge you for the ext warranty. I don't normally buy extended warranties but thats just me. Thanks
EV mode can also be induced by getting up to speed, lifting off the accelerator pedal briefly, and then reapply light pressure to the pedal to coast along at speed with the gas engine off. At highway speeds this does not work as the Toyota hybrid system must run the engine to keep the electric motors within their RPM limits.
Even for 7 passenger car in Europe 8.6l/100km is ridiculously a lot for 2015, besides that seems really great car.

get the highlander, you know you want it.
UPDATE - After driving the New 2015 Sienna, I decided to go with the Highlander. Deal breaker was the power hatch on the Sienna. The hatch doesn't power open when you use the rear handle. Absolutely ridiculous. I noticed it on the 2014 and thought that if they fix this on the 2015, I'll probably go for it. . Everytime I would squeeze the handle, I would just wait for it to open but it would do nothing. What's the purpose of having a power lift gate. It would open with the key fob and from the button inside. The Highlander power lift works like it should along with all the other power lifts on any other car. Might sound like a small thing but after 2 weeks of driving the Sienna, Neither my wife nor I could get used to it. It drove us Nuts. Thats not to say the the Highlander is without faults. I have a couple of pet peeves that I will reveal in an upcoming review.
+Everyday Reviews did u ever end up making that video..? i am on the fence between 2016 Sienna and highlander... dont care for minivan stigma... power, space, comfort and handling... highlander is like driving a tank and sienna is like a hauling a large room.. and i plan to do a lot of high mountain roads.. if sienna can handle that with ease i might go for sienna... with it being on it 6th year itteration.. i would expect the design/bugs to be well refined
hi mr every day review i need to buy so whats is the price plz tell me ?
We have the hybrid highlander and the seats are very uncomfortable (too hard and stiff) especially for long road trips (compared to the sienna seats that are very comfortable).
What year Highlander do you have?
+Everyday Reviews 2013. When I test drove the car, the seats were fine. But after purchasing the car and taking it on a long road trip, the stiffness was really apparent. I googled it and discovered others have complained about the seats too. Though I haven't found any good solutions.
Hi Brian, how this Highlander Hybrid performs in snow? Have you found any hard time driving this compare to over 4x4 SUVs? Thinking to get one of this in Ont.
To be perfectly honest with you. I think we had one day of snow in the last year and it was perfectly fine, mind you it was only a few inches and was gone the next day. Couldn't comment on winter handling with the snow that the east can have.
+Everyday Reviews yes, as i can't find any review on how this hybrid vehicles works out in winter on AWD, frankly speaking this ia not the same as the one without Hybrid.
in term of ride quality, which one more comfortable the sienna or the highlander ?
+bimosalexandres I would probably say the Sienna
thank you for the response, so basically the Highlander ride quality is about the same as a Camry?
Can you still tell me this same car is expensive this year
I hate stereotypes like how a car can be a "soccer mom"'s car. If it's sturdy, practical and reliable, why should that be a bad thing? If it's commonly chosen by parents as a safe vehicle for kids, then it's good for adults too. People need to let go of derogative terms for practical technology. It may look a bit boring, but boring and practical is much better than flashy and useless.
I guess it's a matter of opinion but i don't see anything rugged about this highlander, looks more like a station wagon than an SUV. But clearly its the no brainer choice of the two vehicles!
Charleston Green Might not be rugged, but looks sturdy enough to survive a good hard crash. At least in my eyes. There might be better choices out there. But for its size, it looks great. Bit expensive on the higher end versions though.
dat HiHy
Terrible review. Tuned out half way thru. Annoying. Buy a minivan bud.
At least you watched half of it and made a comment as well. Thanks Zamitz58. Hopefully the next one might be more enjoyable for you.
Cheers
