      I was bored playing clarinet, so I taught myself to play bassoon. We have double reeds which we have to make . We usually play in two clefs, but sometimes also treble. You were complaining about using all of your fingers, but I play 12 keys with my left thumb and 6 keys with my right thumb! Bassoon is a much more challenging instrument.

Because they do it with one hand but they do have to worry about getting every notes in tune just one little wrong sport can change how to note comes out and shifting can be harder for tuning as well. Clarinet also has a lot of problems too so all instruments are equally hard.

    I think the squeaking would be a beginner problem because it's new to them and they might not have their reed positioned correctly. Sometimes on my clarinet I have a sweet spot where the reed goes that make the best sound you just have to find. Also isn't it difficult when you have to use a new reed.

    • @TenorCantusFirmus
      @TenorCantusFirmus 2 года назад

      @@ellielegler338 Most clarinetists which also play saxophone will actually say the latter is a bit easier, but there's no "easy" instrument if you truly want to master it.

    • @lofwyr5063
      @lofwyr5063 8 дней назад

      Technically, from an in tune standpoint, the clarinet is easier because it's not a flared cone like the sax, but a straight tube (more or less)
      This makes it easier to hit the lower and higher notes. Sax has to modulate with embouchure (including oral cavity) and whatnot much more and high and low notes are hard, blabla.
      So...I would say clarinet is easier... I think you just have more freedom with the sax cause people don't expect as much beauty from it as the clarinet.
      Personally I think that's cause the sax also sounds more 'interesting' intrinsically while the clarinet is more focused...and you also have it used in jazz a lot, which can go wild, too.
      There's also klezmer clarinet etc, which can also get wild and wacky but I think otherwise, people expect 'classical music grade' and the sax is not only not as represented there, but also requires a more clarinet like approach, different embouchure etc.
      So maybe that's why it has the stigma of 'failed clarinet'. I like all wind instruments, and in fact, neither of those are my top fave, which would be the (German) bassoon. Such a beautiful voice it has.
      I went for tenor sax cause I can't afford a bassoon lmao.

      there are a few things you can make sure to prevent squeaks (I hope you learn from this because I don't know what you know)
      1. If the reed is too high or too low on the clarinet, it will squeak. There should only be a tiny sliver of mouthpiece showing
      2. cover the hole the full way, if it leaks it squeaks
      3. you may be putting too much or too little of your mouth into the mouthpiece, it should be half way in
      4. it may just be a lack of practicing, keep at it and you'll get it eventually
      I hope this helps

    I think you might be biting on your reads too much that’s why your reads are not working correctly is because you’re biting too hard so maybe if you release the pressure it might help with my principal clarinet player for the blind band

    Trumpet is super terrible though. Sure, you can learn all the fingerings in a day, but then you go above G above the staff for a few seconds and then you're dead for the next three hours...

    I'll admit I'm "Blame it on the reed", "The complainer" and "The one that never practices". lol
    BTW, you left out a few others. There is the "I'm God's gift to the clarinet" player; The "I'm better than you" player; And who could forget the "Tone sounds like an icepick" player. There are probably many others too. I've found that clarinet players are some of the most snobbish and elitist musicians out there even if we don't play as good as we think we do. After all, we have to deal with that pesky reed. lol
