  • This is the well known Warcraft II MIDI soundtrack played on Roland SC-88.
The audio CD soundtrack is much higher quality, richer and contains more tracks.
The Warcraft 2: Battle.net Edition contains compressed audio and the addon on a single disc.
Music credit goes to: Glenn Stafford
    1995 - Blizzard Entertainment
    00:00 - Title
    00:42 - Setup/Intro (SMK audio during intro)
    03:33 - Human Briefing
    04:27 - Human Campaign 1
    06:57 - Human Campaign 2
    09:04 - Human Campaign 3
    11:14 - Human Campaign 4
    14:17 - Human Defeat
    14:47 - Human Victory
    15:07 - Orc Campaign 1

    19:30 - Orc Campaign 3
    21:53 - Orc Campaign 4
    24:13 - Orc Defeat
    24:33 - Orc Victory
The gamefile contains more MIDI music files but they aren't used in the game.
The cutscene music isn't included - it isn't MIDI.

@@god6384 it's amazing how far removed The Warcraft franchise in the modern day is to it's roots that you can see here. The source code to this game leaked so a fan made remaster would be cool.

Then again, originally Warcraft copied Dune 2...But, in any case after C&C you had hundreds of games copying its RTS style.

@Swampy: do you have any idea what hardware/software did they use to make the higher quality music tracks in the CD version?

    • @sfurta
      @sfurta  6 лет назад +1

Hi, hard to say. The popular pro modules were e.g. Roland JV-1080, 2080,. E-MU, KORG, also keyboards from Roland, Yamaha and others or custom samples. Software packages like Cubase, Pro Tools, Cakewalk were also well known among professionals. Fast Tracker, Impulse Tracker, Scream Tracker, OctaMed, Protracker at home :)

@@sfurta I used the awe32 for the midi source back in the day, I must say this card made justice to the game, I can hear very little difference in fact.

@@sfurta To quote Glenn Stafford (the composer of Warcraft II) in 2019: "The original equipment used to record the Warcraft II music was a Roland SC-55 layered with a Roland SC-88. I recall only certain sounds were doubled with SC-88 but not all. French Horns were doubled, and... probably some of the woodwinds too, and I’m guessing strings and choir too. I think Snare was better on SC-55 alone, maybe timp too, also reverse cymbal, and not entirely sure about the rest and would have to take it case by case."
He used Cubase on the PC side.
