Empire beauty school did not teach me about natural BLACK HAIR I'm guessing most stylist did not learn about black hair in school. So pride my brother with another comb showing us who know hair and chemical now can learn about black hair
bakari Fuller facts I went to empire beauty school btwn 2006 to 2008 they only teach you the basics to pass the exams the real learning is from outside stylist n professionals ..also even though there isnt enough schools for natural hair they starting to create them or create natural hair courses just gotta research to see if any in hour area or if any natural hair stylist professionals doing any classes or workshops etc ..
I started my own dreadlocks about 5 days ago so hopefully i see the difference in my progress and i really do believe that my hair will lock up fast because of the texture of my hair..

Dear Damian... THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT INFORMATION... I STARTED MY JOURNEY OF LOCS a week ago... You mentioned spraying.... can you recommend a good spray??? Thank you very much, I appreciate your input... I wish I was closer, you would definitely be my stylist!!! 💆🏽💆🏽💆🏽
I came on RUclips to learn how to do a starter locs, first video I saw, I'm actually going to do the person and am hella nervous haha my first time too. While waiting on the client am going thru some videos, am a quick learner
Lol, who cares........ I recently moved back with my Mom (my Family is just Blessed to be close and I’m so appreciative of that)🤷🏽♀️ Anywhoo, I live in Houston and am ready to begin my Loc journey. I’ve been natural for years but my hair is not yielding the way that I desired. I’m ready to begin seeking professional help on a consistent basis but EVERYONE knows “The Best Salon” so I am overwhelmed. Any advice 🤷🏽♀️ Thank You! Love your videos (I’ve been binge watching since finding them last night).
I love how honest and forthcoming you are about the process. Is it possible to have small sized locs with ought having 200 on my head? Or does it depend on head size and hair thickness?
Mr. Walker, I am following you on youtub. Your videos are very informative. The advice you give us very useful to me. My hair is not locked, but it is natural. I had locks before but was not taught how to take care of them. Can I come to you or can you recommend someone that uses your techniques and training? Please!!!!!
My son has softer texture and they take a while to really lock, and they frizz easily... he's biracial Puerto Rican/African American, can I still wash his hair?
Am in Nigeria, want you to advise me on what shampoo and conditioner to use cos natural hair is what i transitioned to please i need your response thanks
So yo silly butt turning up at 6:11 lol man I started my locs back in 2012 and moved to Oklahoma for college. Basically after becoming a broke college kid found some lady and she hacked me up. I cut them off before I joined the Navy. Now that I'm out I have to come see you to start this journey once again.
Thank you for the info, I've been using tap water with my oils didn't realize I was doing it wrong. Do u have ur own products and and how do I get them?
Thank you for your videos! I was wondering if you had a video that provided instructions on how to properly wrap the locs at night to protect the edges as well as the locs?
I've watched a few of your video's and it has inspire me to wanna do my own locks.which it hasn't gotten that far Lol but i have it twist right now but what products can i use to keep the process going???
I am new to the locking world where my locs are only 2 weeks old and im ready to wash my hair because the ECO GEL my stylist used left white residue which make my hair looks like i have dandruff. From your personal/professional opinion, what is the best gel i should use. Thanks in advance.
Darline Romain fisr off, eco gel is alcohol based and is very drying to your hair. Secondly its a styling gel, not a locking gel. You need to clean all of that eco gel out and get a water soluble gel. Eco gel will cause build up. I use it in my mannequin heads in cosmetology class and it sucks to wash out
Your stylist should definitely NOT be using eco gel on your locks. That gel is not made for locks and is thick and heavy and will cause buildup. Tight hold is a good locking gel and she doesn't have to use much. You need to work on cleaning that eco from your hair though
Great video. I have medium to tight curls and work out often as well as professional DJ'ing with lots of touring and jumping around at shows which is a workout in itself - i sweat like a mofo and are drenched after sets. I want to get starter locs, would I have to shampoo them every day (often twice a day) due to the amount of acitivity i do? If I keep up my moisturising regime and using the products you've recommended?
Dirty Needlez you can’t wash them for like two to three weeks. You’re just gonna have to wear a stocking cap of durag to keep them intact and just spray some rose water and tea tree oil on your head to try to kill bacteris
Can anyone tell me when can you start washing your locs with loc extensions? Also, is it possible to retwist your loc extensions at home when you just started?
Thanks for the video/info the locs at 15:40 before touching up look puffy or untwisted in the middle on each loc. Is that normal? Was it fixed after the touch up was finished?
I just had my first retwist. And my stylist has yet to wash my hair. She says don't wash it because I have fine hair. I really want to wash due to all the clumps of product on my scalp is grossing me out! HELP!
Kesha Herron wash your hair. Hair is hair no matter how fine it us. The structure is the same. What i suggest for the fist time washins is get a hair net or some old ckean panty hose with the legs ties right at the crotch area. Put the waist band on your head like a shower cap. Get all the dreads in it. And shampoo over the cap thingy gently
Oh Lord plz shampoo your hair. Sounds like your locks will be a disaster before they even lock. You do not want to start locks with a lot of buildup. Even if you dilute the shampoo
Well I started my own two Strand locs and a friend helped the second time and she was suppose to come back after two weeks. Never happened I washed my hair with a wig cap on and I had to redo some of my locs. The second time I washed my hair all my locs came out. I am so frustrated. I cannot afford to go to a salon and my daughter was going to send for me in November so Damien could do my hair. Now I am just tempted to try and do freeform locs since I am biracial my curls are not tight. I don't know what else to do. And I have watched so many videos but it has not helped me at all.
I started with two strand twists and plaited the ends (curly). Then I interlocked the roots. When I wash, I use the braid and band method (plaited up some of the smaller twist and put a rubber and at the end). There’s a lot of videos on here for washing with the braid and band method.
This dude really knows his shit and he care about the hair not just the money..he want you too look right..I may have to drive to Houston..do anyone have his number or the name of his shop out there..
Hello I have a question. I am one month locd and wanted to know if its okay for my stylist to be cutting the frizz and the curls on the end of my hair that stay loose. As well as is it okay to only get the very root of the retwist. I dont like how flat they look when it is palm rolled all the way down.
Hey, Anecia! I don't think that you should be getting the frizzies cut. They're the building blocks of locs, plus it will thin out your locs if you're cutting them. I watch Yannie the Locologist and she has a video on frizz. I'm now two months into my journey and the frizz is crazy, but it's a part of the journey, as your locs mature they will become less frizzy.
Some of my starter locs still have curls at the end too, but the ones that are locking faster are locking up at the ends. It just takes patience. Also, some people's ends never loc on their own, I've seen someone use a loc hook to instant loc the ends
@UCc58ya9qcx6qnm-9kitnXOw I just subscribed to you too and I'm happy to share what I've learned so far! I started and have been maintaining mine also, it's been hard to find someone that would be dedicated to my locs as much as I am. I'm excited to see your journey also!

Cut the straight parts off. I had this problem because I started my locs after being a pressed natural. My ends weren't straight though, they were loosely curled and I kept those ends for a while until it wasn't cute anymore. For straight ends I'd at least clip them since it's so difficult for straight hair to loc.

Kandie Johnson cool thx

How do I retwitd my own locs ?
I started beginners locs three weeks ago. I go every week. Are you supposed to go into the shop weekly when starting locs?
Mable Sims no ma’am. Once a month is when you should retwist for your first year. Please stop retwisting your hair every week

Damien is it OK to switch up shampoos. I wash my hair every 2 weeks. With hair infinity. I want to use something else. What do you think.
I’m 1 month locked today
Do you teach at any hair shows?
I been locked for 4days and the root is still coiled but the longer part is straight what should I do.
Cut the straight parts off.
I had this problem because I started my locs after being a pressed natural. My ends weren't straight though, they were loosely curled and I kept those ends for a while until it wasn't cute anymore. For straight ends I'd at least clip them since it's so difficult for straight hair to loc.
