Thanks so much! This is where I am in my journey too! It is definitely a tough road and it's all about accepting yourself as you are which is not always easy in a society that reinforces a certain aesthetic and demonizes others.

Great video. It was rough for me in the beginning. But here I am, 6 months away from my 2 year loc anniversary. After some time passed, I began to embrace the roughness. I love the way my hair looks with the new growth. Absolutely love it!

That looks beautiful. I started my loc journey in April of this year...and,have come up against quite a few rough patches.
Your work, video and, words inspire me to go forward.
I, too, went to someone that started my locs by coil. After 2 months, she disappeared. I, now, see someone that uses the interlocking due to the texture of my hair.
    I love it, better.

try washing w/a stocking cap on...it will reduce the unravelling
Great encoraging video for new locers, don't be discouraged, it took 7 months before my hair began to loc. My sister...you're in good hands Dxlyn is an amazing stylist!

    • @keenanvigne
      @keenanvigne 6 лет назад +8

CarleeLocs washing with a stocking cap didn't work for me because my scalp requires a wash each and every time. My scalp was flaky and as a result of my loctician doing that, I found someone else who understood the importance of washing my locs each and every time. Now I'm happy with my new loctician 😊

    • @mrlee7328

the stocking cap or even better a wig net/cap will help keep the new locs from unraveling while allowing you to get to your scalp

Love this video! I have wondered about comb coils and I think their beautiful. Re: folks who don’t wash their loc’s give loc’s an extremely negative reputation.
I took my loc’s down after 7.5 years because I didn’t like the energy of the loctitian who did them. It wasn’t that the extensions looked bad. It was literally bad energy as in bad juju. I would have taken them down ages ago but I had a new born and a 2 year old so I kept the loc’s for their convenience. I have restarted my journey myself with two strand twists. Just a month in and I love them. You do good work!

Thank you so much for this! I just got starter locs with comb coils 5 days ago. I was very skeptical about the advice I received about not washing for several weeks. I'm a personal trainer and dance instructor so I am always sweating and often rolling around on the floor. There was no way I could refrain from washing my hair. You've given me exactly what I need to continue this journey in confidence. Thank you!

Very good video and teaching points. I started mine with two strand twists 6 mo ago and I love them. I only wash my hair once a month so I don't disturb the locking process. I interlock at that time too. I just use water, castor oil and vitamin E oil to moisturize. No conditioner as conditioners tend to be detanglers. I do a hot oil treatment as a conditioner.

    Hello,
I am headed into six months on 2/24/19
I started out short and did wash my hair once I felt it needed it.
@ 5 months I had no money to get my hair retwisted so I attempted it myself. It came out nice but did not last long maybe because I don't have a hair dryer and attempt to dry by blow drying it. I also tied the clips and clipped them blind. (No idea where I clipped them or it on the loc. But that's what first time is with no help) I will try it again now with your help. I love how you did it and I hope with more practice I'll get the hang of it.
Thank you for your help. I will not quite. I look forward to seeing what comes of my loc journey. I'm gray and I love it
Any videos like this help so much. Again, thanks for your time

wow I really appreciate this video, I know I'm nearly a year late, but I recently started locs, and they were wonderful and long and looked like they were locking and them my loctition did my one month wash! I thought I had lost all progress but my mom who came with me told me even after the wash some of my locs were still in. I didn't believe her as I was looking at the mirror of my frolike head but after watching this I've realized this is just that stage so thanks for the video and motivation and stay loc'd !

I’ve had my hair loc’d for 1 year and 1 month now and I finally love them. My son has been free-forming his hair for 2 months but now wants me to try retwisting them but I’m unsure if I should use water and oil or a product. He has very course hair which is great because his hair is already locing. Can you recommend something?

I’m into my 4th week of locs. They were retested at week 3 without being washed. What was used was a dry wash which was a new process for me. I noticed some flaking but with some included itching. I think I’m overdue for a wash. My concerns :
    1. I wear a hat with stocking cap
    2. I can smell sweat at times
    3. I want to learn to retwist myself
