A point for Scorbunny being the fire starter - Cinderace's colours are red, white, blue, and yellow - almost the exact same colours as the French soccer team uniform of red socks, white shorts, blue shirt, and their number emblazoned on the back in a kind of bronze colour. Still holding out hope that Totodile will be the water starter! Possibly turn from a pure water alligator into a water/poison type like the French, hairy dragon called the Peluda.

I wanted Scorbunny's final evolution to be Fire/Fairy all the way back in 2019, maybe based on the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, so I am 100% cool with Mega Cinderace being that typing and I love the jackalope reference!

Personally, I'd love if instead of Regional or Mega starters for ZA, we get CONVERGENT starters.

Ice/Steel Empoleon could be a reference to Napoleon's failed invasion of Russia
If that's the idea he should therefore be weak to ice, not go from Water starter to 4x weak to fire
I believe the logic behind the original XY starters not getting megas was that megas were supposed to be additional to the pokemon line, Gamefreak didn't want to make a pokemon line knowing it'd have a mega because then it might feel incomplete without it.
Good thing the obligation no longer exists.
Tbh, making these guys available later on AND giving them megas would be a good way to continue the "trend" from Arceus while giving them access to a core feature from their generation (something that became a "staple" with later starters getting signature z-moves and gigantamax forms)
Personally, despite Empoleon's name, I"d much rather see an Arsene Lupin-inspired Inteleon, I feel like turning him into a gentleman/phantom thief would be rad!
Rather than Inteleon, I think an evolution of Thievul based on Arsene Lupin would be a lot cooler.
Lockstin actually did a similar design with a thief inspired Inteleon
Yeah, i think the problem is that empoleon's TOO perfect. If like in LA the starters get regional variants, the they can't change much with empoleon as they can with inteleon, primarina, or any other water starter.

Love those designs!! I also fully agree with your take on analyzing which starters we will get I personally hope we will get mega forms for Kalosian starters and regional forms for the starters we get at the beginning of the game
I always walk away from Karn's videos thinking, "man. These arguments are a bit of a stretch". Tbh, laughing at the logic (and then gasping when it turns out he was right, because man that happens more than it should) is a lot of fun, even if it's not always one's cup of tea.
But there's something that always goes hard, and that's the custom art. Man, not only are you amazing at finding good artists, but you seem to do really well working with them to make your vision come to life.

Z-A has me excited about Mega Evolutions for the first time this decade.
Hopefully ZA gives some other Gen 6 Pokémon some Love with new Evolutions. Hawlucha would be a good one to get one. Or Meowstic could really do something with their lines.

The funniest part about the starter speculation is the collective dread of Mega Incineroar looming over everyone's heads. Personally, I say long live the king

Gamefreak xares much more to balance VGC than singles, so i feel unkess they make it really bad, incineroar is less likely.

I understand choosing Serperior and Empoleon since they are the easy alread-french picks, and Samurott was already a Samurai and still got picked for Legends Arceus and based it variant on Nobunaga... But I pray they don't go the easy routes... As in I'm DEMANDING they pick Chikorita and give Meganium a regional variant.

So regarding pivoting into more general monster tamer tubing - I've been working on my monster tamer setting! I've got a plan to shore up a roster of 64 monsters (or monster lines, as it were) over the next 5 years, with a ton of art. In parallel, I'm getting character art, landscapes, monster sounds, game soundtrack...
Yeah, it's a big endeavor.
I love the pokemon crossover for the channel. Digimon and Pokemon are my faves, and so different, that I think they have created their own lanes.
I wish they brought back Medabots lol
You could just hit the 90s nostalgia with the monster Mondays and do things like digimon as bit beasts or custom art digimon as metabots, even other weird mash ups.
Its worth pointing out that Legends Z is most likely based on the Restoration of Paris, which happend at the same rough timeframe as the settlement of Hokkaido.
So the two game are most likely happening at the same time. So if Hisui has Regional Forms there is no reason why Legends Z shouldnt have them.
My guess is for Regional Variants with Megas (which does rule out Blaziken and any other Starter with a Mega at least.)

I would love for more Reginald variants of starters, it’s a great way to finally give us new version on our favorite starters as well as something to set the legends games aprart from the min line games, that always lets you pick from 3 new ones😊

Interesting how the DLV for SV has a fire water and grass starter image in the nintendo store. They have servine, totodile, and fennekin as the only starters in the images of the dlc.
I’m excited to see new Megas for whatever starters we get, but I think the Kalos starters should get Battle Bond forms instead (with Ash-Greninja returning, but being rebranded as “Bonded Greninja” or something?). In fact, I think a bunch of Gen 6 Pokemon should get Battle Bond forms, to contrast the “natural” Bond Phenomenon with the “artificial” Mega Evolution.

These designs are all amazing! The Mega Empoleon has my heart and would make Piplup an auto choose for me.
I think the only thing I disagree with is Mega Serperior's ability. Megas aren't required to change abilities so it should definitely just keep (or gain) Contrary. Still fits it's personality and it's too damn good of an ability for it to lose.

I know a lot of people were expecting a gen 5 remake announcement, but it really owuldn't make sense due to breaking the pattern, Barring gen 1, each set of remakes came out on the doubled number of their original gen, so gen 5 remakes won't be happening until gen 10 has started imo.

I believe that another connection that Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott had is that they were all starter pokemon previously owned by the ex-main antagonist Ash Ketchum. During this games development it was probably announced that Ash would be leaving so they probably pick these pokemon as a sort of tribute to ash.
When it comes to Pokemon Legends ZA however, I have two starter sets.
First set is Sprigitito, Scorbunny and Piplup. Sprigitito is the starter Pokemon of the current main protagonist of the anime so game freak might want to get a jump on this pokemon eventual popularity. Scorbunny and Piplup I chose because long reasons I don't time to explain.
Second set is Capsikid, Darumaka and clauncher. It would be cool if gamefreak decided to shake things up by making previously non-starter pokemon actual starter pokemon by giving them new branched evolutions to help adhear to the 3 stage starter line concept.
Capsikid could become grass and dragon
Darumaka could become fire and poison
Clauncher could become water and fairy

I think there are theories that there will be only 3 legends games so if that was the case, I would not be opposed at all to keeping the same Johto, Alola, Unova starter trio (largely because I love Johto so much and would love to see the other two in a legends game.
I can't wait for Kalos to get its second game focusing around it and the starters made for the region to still not get mega evolutions 😂
Piplup and Snivi are pretty much a lock imo. I think you give a lot of strong reasons for it not to be Torchi but Blaziken is popular and popular Pokemon with 2 megas is not unheard of
I admit that I'm very stuck on Piplup/Snivy/Torchic but I can kind of see the appeal of Scorbunny over Torchic given your reasoning. I generally like these megas however. I do think there is also a possibility that Z-A has both Kalosian forms for the starters as well as Megas. But definitely Megas for the Kalos starters without a doubt.
Yeah I really think Torchic is likely but it being the odd one out on Megas is weird.
Kalosian forms for the new starters and Megas for the Kalos starters would hit!

If the starters are getting Megas I can definitely see the argument to leave Blaziken out, Mega Blaziken could have its own side story for it being more of a thing in Kalos than the other Hoenn Starters.

Mega or Lumios forms? Why not both? Gimme Lumiosian Empoleon with a Mega Evolution! Also, I should note, on the pokemon website with the trailer, last I checked it said that it wasn't representative of gameplay footage.

To be fair, Slowbro has a mega evo, and its line got the regional varient treatment. So there is precedent for a Pokémon with a mega to receive a regional varient.
That's not what was in question, it's that if the starters get Megas NOT regional variants then Torchic would theoretically be disqualified :)

A cool concept for a video would be Mega Evolving Digimon.
I agree nepoleon should get the ice type, but getting rid of its water typing seems a bit odd unless all the starters get rid of their primary type.
Water ice makes more sense here
A Stonjourner Kalos form based on a French megalith like perhaps Carnac would be epic

They should go way outta what’s expected and make the starters different types from the start. Steel type Piplup that becomes steel and fighting as it evolves representing the tenacity and clashing wills of war. A ground type Snivy that gains a dark type as it evolves representing the gritty dark cinema and arts they bring to the world, and a Ice type Scorbunny that gains fairy type representing its culinary sweets and pleasantries.
The digital wireframe stuff felt less like when we would be exploring but how. Instead of time travel we will explore Lumiose via a digital recreation based on old documents and journals. This method would better lock us to just the city and gives us a supsitute for completing the pokedex as we will be filling out a specific journal of a character instead. Its very Assassin's Creed but it makes the most sense to me.

I was thinking for serperior being a steel type to fit into a typing trio like the hisuian starters
Serperior is already my starter for Unova, so I'll chose either Cinderace or Empoleon as my Legends ZA starter. But if Kalos ends up becoming them, then I wouldn't mind Chesnaught or Delphox!
My theory is that Kalosean Combee will be one of the starters. They will be more of a football fan monster that is a bee. Instead of Combee it would be called something like FanBee…mon.
All I'm saying is, if Charizard can have 2 Mega-Evolutions, so can Blaziken. I want Torchic to be the fire starter so bad.

Meganium- tarasque(french turtle like monster)
Primarina-Marie antuanete style clothing
Emboar - beast of genvaudan (not that strong I know but currently emboar is based on a shape shiff8ng demon so.... that and no one really knows what the beast looks like

Either that or expand rpg theme with them as:
Emboar: barbarian
Primaina: white mage
Meganium: oddball you get randomy out of nowhere

@@Karn_EX In it's Giganta Max Form Cinderace looks like Lopmon because it gains three horns and it's ears become longer than it's body. I thought that's why you picked it as the Fire type Starter.

While I would LOVE for Empoleon to became Ice/Steel, I highly doubt that Gamefreak would get rid of the Water typing of a Starter.
I sure would choose Mega Serperior ! Truly love his Fleur-de-Lys design at the tail. But maybe he should be Grass/Ghost, since we, the French, did to the Royalty... Vive la Revolution !

im hoping that fenniken is one of them. I personally believe delphox was robbed of a good dual typing because of the idea they were going on with the starters. Hopefully if it gets a mega, itll be fire fairy instead, aswell as its HA should have been magic bounce or magic gaurd instead of magician
I always thought the cool credits thing you did was just you editing in all of the patreon names, shame that RUclips has made changes which stop that, hope you figure out a new solution.
Great video and amazing designs, these are my three picks for the starter trio as well for PLZA :)
It was a separate program that pulled names and formatted them into the end credits but the API allowed you to pull all the names in a convenient way, that API change means now you have to comb through them manually so the service got shut down. Will find a fix.

I like the designs my only complaint is that they are the same Pokemon physically normally mega evolution changes their physical a bit for example the hoen starters blaziken looks longer and slender same with sceptile and well swamperd looks like he went to the gym for 10 years or look at lucario who got a bit bulkier and longer.
Thanks! As I said we kinda split the balance between Mega Evolutions and Regional Variants however I think if you compare ours to things like Mega Charizard Y, Mega Mewtwo X and even Mega Absol they definitely fit the bill

These were good designs as for what I think the Legends ZA Starters would be a mix set like LA I think the Water type would be Piplup a reference to Napoleon also Drasna of the Kalos Elite four’s Family has origins from Sinnoh for the Fire type Torpic since Rooster are france’s National animal but if we were to discout it becomes it already had a Mega then I would say Litten because Cats were common Pets In France Houses even the rich if you ever watched the Aristocats and the Grass type Chikoritta as Valerie the Fairy Gym leader she was originally from Johto and has a connection to the Kimono girls and if they got either Megas or Regional forms I say Incinaroar would become Fire/Fightning Empoleon would became Water/Ice I think it would keep the water type as that is one of the three types combo and it would be Strange for the water type to suddenly change to Ice as it’s first Type and Meganium would be Grass/Fairy also if we see Regionals in place of Megas for the starters I can see Blaziken in the trio as Slowbro has a Mega and a Galarian Form.
I liked all of these a lot. Sadly I imagine the designs that Game Freak go with will suck compared to these
I personally disagree with the Legends ZA starters getting Mega Evolutions. As much as I love Mega Evolutions, I would much prefer the starters getting Variants, as Variants are at the very least much more likely to return in future games, vs Mega Evolutions that might disappear for years again.
That being said, I think there is some good evidence, aside from the ID trailer hints, that Torchic very well could be the fire starter, as the Gallic Rooster is the national animal of France, appearing on jerseys for both the French National Soccer Team and their Olympic Team.
If Torchic IS the Fire starter, I can definitely see them foregoing Mega Evolutions and instead going with Variants again, and instead giving Megas to the original Kalos starters instead.
I think these megas do a good job of being powerful looking, but not way too over the top like a lot of fan designs tend to be. Cinderace in particular was my starter in gen 8, but I was always a little disappointed in its original design. If it did get something like this, I would hope it would be an alternative evo so I could keep it going forward, as it looks much better in my opinion.
