One can certainly do that. I just find that two separate amps allows for the most controllable split in tones. There are definitely many different ways to do it, especially now days.
can you do biamp for the purpose of making the output louder? i have 2 100watt combo amp that i plan to stack and biamp so that i can be louder in gigs. does that make sense?

Why not get one or more pedals that only distort higher frequencies, or split the frequencies to run effects however you want?
