Erm..because Apple expect you to backup important stuff to iCloud, in which case it will be accessible even if the iPad is lost or damaged beyond repair 🤷♂️

This only works if you have the erase option turned on . And if your iPad is connected to the WiFi as well so ppl without the setting option on and WiFi it doesn’t work . I’ve been locked out of mine for a week and support said that I have to take it in to get it done . So this doesn’t work for any ipad.
One of many reasons why I'll always see Apple products as inferior to other brands that use Android or any other format. Apple is to exclusivity as the U.S is to imperial measurements. They both want to be unique but end up giving everyone a hard time. You can't even view your pictures without Apple having to confirm your identify. Never understood why people claim Apple products to be user friendly when literally everything you want to do requires extra steps and things like resetting your passcode or product requires another device to do so as opposed to a simple button prompt. Abysmal and overpriced products that are the epitome of the word "pretentious".

I have an ipad that doesn't offer that option after your steps, it simply doesn't have teh "erase all data" or "reset ipad" options. Both plugged into iTunes, and not, it just keeps increasing the timer
