Airfix Hurricane Mk.1 - Build With Me! Part 4 - Decals

- The Hawker Hurricane was a fighter aircraft that saw service with the RAF during the Second World War. In this video I complete a long-format build of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 Plastic model kit in 1/72 scale.
The version I have here is from the Starter Set (or "gift set" as they are sometimes called) which comes with some small pots of paint, a brush and some cement. The perfect start for a beginner!
The aim of this series is to give you the chance to quite literally "build with me" - so if you have this kit and want to give it a go, this is the perfect video for you!
Alternatively, if you are a beginner, there are lots of helpful, simple and easy techniques that can be found in this series - so definitely worth a watch!
In this fourth part of the series, i apply the decals to the model to give it a more authentic look!

Apologies if there are any editing errors in the video - I recorded this series as I build the model so there were very long takes and lots of footage to edit. The activity in this video took about 1.5 hours which was then edited to less than half an hour - still quite a sizeable amount of work (and the perfect chance for errors to slip in)!
The audio quality in this series is known to be slightly lower than my normal videos due to the use of the in-built microphone in my camera - the use of my "good" mic would be very difficult to do as it isn't compatible with the camera. This is an area I'm looking at improving and overcoming in the future
Make sure you subscribe so that you don't miss the next episode in the series where I complete the model, adding some simple and accessible weathering . . Stay tuned for that!

fantastic , it so makes me want to build when I see a model completed all by hand , not by mechanically airbrushing , please please please make the " build with me " a mainstay feature of the channel
I might be able to continue this series on other subjects in the future
Great guideline, Matt !
Just subscribed as having dived into modelling during Covid19-pandemic after having done this in my childhood in the 80s with mainly Revell warbirds...now a fan of Airfix and Tamiya.
Your videos are always very helpful.
Welcome aboard!
Hi Matt, I have been a big fan of you since 2019.I do see the improvements you have made in the past years. You really helped me into model making and aviation, even though I don’t build much models now I am very into aviation, and the best thing for me is that I can do glider training in two more years! I am really glad that people like you exist on platforms like RUclips and I believe that you well help more and more people into model making and even aviation to a real pilot. I appreciate all the hard work you do and keep up the great work!have a nice day and hope you all the best!🙂
Thanks! I really appreciate the support :D
Really great series helped me gain the confidence to finish my first model! Really enjoyed the step by step throughout my process. Wouldn’t have been able to do it without it. Thanks Matt! Great channel, Subscribed already for my next build!

Thanks! I'm glad you could be a part of it :D
I bought some decalfix a week ago (my previous one ran out) so I indent to use it soon but I was in my local hobby shop and I found some micro set and soul to try out on my next decal project (I’ve only ever set micro set in store before)
I prefer set and sol, but decalfix does have its uses
It’s a shame i missed it but this video is very useful, I’ve been modelling for a long time and have never ever tried decal fix . Of course I’ve seen it before.
its ok, but micro set/sol is generally a bit better I find
@@ModelMinutes ok thanks I’ll try it on my next plane/tank
Great video mate
Thanks! :D
Hey I like your videos thanks for your tips and reviews
I’m glad you enjoy them 😊
The red doped fabric covers over the guns was to stop them freezing as they had an annoying tendency in certain conditions to freeze. Its nice they give you transfers for the ports so you don't have to paint them on.
Yeah… until you lose them that is 😂
@@ModelMinutes so I saw 🥴💥
*Good work on the decals, sometimes i choose masking and paint because the result is better.*
yeah, it can be on occasion
Random question why did you decide to go for the Silk rather than matt varnish???
Personal choice, I like the look of it
Ummm.. I didn't know yellow square story, thanks!
I'm not sure why I know it, but I must have looked it up some time ago :P
He’s correct
Just googled it
Strange tho
Wherent also used to stop the guns from freezing at high attitude ?
Yeah, I believe so
It was also done to see if the guns have been fired :)
I am big fan of your channel Matt I am sorry I can’t become a patron I am unemployed :(.
@@duncanling2127 simply watching my videos and clicking the like button is enough for me 😊
I’ve got Tamils mark fit strong
nice!
Hi
hi!
Personally (and this just my opinion, I'm NOT having a go at anyone and EVERYONE is free to use what ever decal solution they prefer) but in my experience humbrol decal fix does NOT work. It might aswell be a jar of water.. I have had much better results using Micro Set Micro Sol.
I see what you’re saying. But I prefer micro set/sol because they don’t leave residue. I find that decalfix does work but it leaves a glossy residue and can be sticky
Edit: the reason I used decalfix is because I had it and it’s easy to get in model shops here in the uk
@@ModelMinutes don't get me wrong as for years I had to use it myself as here in Ireland micro sol micro set has only been available in recent times but once I tried it I never went back to humbrol Decal fix.
@@Kickback-dm7zt I use it because I have it, but micro set /sol would be my preferred choice
@@ModelMinutes agreed. 👍
