I like this guy, he uses a stick to apply glue. The stick is one of the most under used and under appreciated tool in the modelers tool kit. I'm amazed in this day and age how many modelers don't use a stick.
I haven't built a model since i was a kid but after coming across your channel I bought this very kit from Amazon. It was reduced from 22 to 15 dollars. It's the kit that comes with paint and glue. due this Friday!
I got to see a real Hurricane up close and watch it fly at AirVenture last July. Beautiful airplane. Planes I thought I would never get to see were there, the Hurricane, a Spitfire, P-38 and a SBD-5 Dauntless. All of them were just gorgeous. My next build is going to be the Spitfire 1c from airfix.
nice build, the weathering can bring a lot of detail in this scale...Ive built a few models myself and I like your "DIY" methods, not using expensive accessories, products, tools everywhere.
Excellent video. I have been in and out of modeling for years, and now have kids that are of the age where I have more time for this. The idea of getting better at brush painting in this scale is appealing. Can't be easy to deal with the camera, build the kit, and keep up a steady and useful dialoged. Without a single profanity either. That is something I know that I could not pull off. Cheers and Happy New Year!
Nice result Mat. For panel lining I use a Gundam panel lining marker pen (not to be confused with a paint marker pen) and any excess can be removed with a cotton bud and water.
Re aerials, rigging etc, how about fishing line? Various thicknesses ready made and when painted would look OK. Avoids the pain of stretching sprues and makes it easier for novices to try. Also why not glue the aerial itself not the mounting point? Then the aerial becomes the applicator and is very fine :) I've now watched all five parts and I know experienced builders might say X, Y and Z but if it was my first model I'd be /very/ happy with it! BTW I used charcoal powder - I think pencil nib shavings - as blacking on the faces and hands of Action Man when I was a kid.. fun memory! :)
Beautiful build...I am trying to find out what exact green and brown you used on the top scheme. Is there a code on the colors i missed. The scheme is perfect during the Battle of Britain MK 1. I just never seem to get it right. I love your videos however. You are a master. Thank you so much!
i used the included humbrol 30 dark green and 29 brown which came as a part of the starter set - probably worth looking at the episode on painting where i use them
I am following these videos intently as I am returning to our hobby after nearly 60 years and the materials used in making these lovely kits have changed so much for the better. Thank you for all the intuitive tips you are offering here. Tonight I tuned in at 18:00 hours to watch the Hurricane build episode part 5. Matt varnish spray; application of artists pastels for soot effects; in what order please? Matt varnish first enables the soot particles to adhere? Soot particles first and then the varnish seals them in? I don't really understand which way to turn; please help! Surely I need to seal the soot particles but your video leaves them free to fall away?
The pastels I used dont seem to rub off too easily, for that reason I applied the matt varnish first, then the pastel weathering. The pastels are water based and my concern that applying a varnish on top could disturb them and make them "run"
I stumbled upon one of your videos and have watched this one and a couple of others. I am guessing you are a beginner and have been building models for only a short time. If I may, I would like to offer a few bits of advice: You will have a better looking model if you fill and sand the seams and remove mold lines on your kits. The antenna wire here and on others is much too thick. If you are using stretched sprue, you will have to practice in order to get very fine "wire". If you want an easier way, try using Easy Line or other brands of elastic rigging material. As with anything else, practice makes perfect and you will be able to get better results with your paint jobs, canopy framing, decals etc.... Good luck!
Thanks for your comments. Whilst this video was aimed at beginners I wouldn’t consider myself one (having been modelling for about 20 years now) I’d say I have more intermediate skills
@@ModelMinutes I see. So, out of curiosity, do you ignore things like the seam lines created when mating two halves and mold lines on parts purposely? I have been modeling for 46 years and by the time I was a teen, I was more aware of my model's appearance thus I was filling and sanding seam lines, ill fitting wing roots, etc.. and cleanig up parts which I had not been doing prior. I had also purchased my first airbrush at 17. I know different people have different standards, reasons for doing things or not or their modeling is not to strive for the best result but simply a quick journey from opening the box to a finished model. Anyway, whatever the reason, enjoy and happy modeling!
@@michaellemaire5380 not on purpose no, but in some videos it isn’t always worth showing. Perhaps you need to watch some of my other videos which are not aimed at beginners?
@@ModelMinutes I have watched a selection of your videos to get a better idea of what your channel contains. I have to say it's not for me as I am an advanced modeler and this is clearly novice level content. I don't mean that in a negative way, just that I don't get anything out of it and there are many other channels created by skilled modelers which can provide viewing enjoyment and inspiration at my skill level. Cheers.
@@michaellemaire5380 that’s absolutely fine. I do try and make my content as accessible as possible to all. There may be other parts of my content like factory tours etc that may be better for you but I understand if my videos are not aimed at your level
could do, there are special chipping fluids that can be used rather than sanding though - sanding is more likely to just remove the paint straight down to the plastic

Sometimes I do, sometimes I dont, depends how lazy I feel :P

That is awesome!
Yes, nice kit, nice build, and simple but effective way to do it. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Great beginners series of videos, really well explained and easy to follow throughout.
thanks!
Lovely work Matt. Very neat build and not too much weathering! Looking forward to seeing the next project 👍🏻
Thanks 👍

sounds amazing! I've seen spitfires and mustangs (even been in a dakota to look around) but not seen a p38 or dauntless

Your build was amazing as I will one day buy this kit and I will use some of the techniques that you used! Have an amazing day and peace!
Thanks!
awesome work! the weathering and final touches really brought the build together.,
Thanks! Not quite up to your standards though :P
Looks great! I’m always learning about weathering, and your techniques are very helpful! Thanks for sharing! Model on.
Awesome, thank you!

sounds interesting, might have to look at getting some to try out
Great job it's all about the fun
true! Gotta have that fun :D

Really cool video!! But I gotta say that aerial wire is a little thick. Thanks for sharing this series though!
Yeah, I thought it was thick, I did mention that had I pulled the sprue quicker it would have been thinner, maybe I’ll get it right next time 😂

You try spraying a basic silver as a base coat the at end sand off to expose the silver in the bits that get worn ?
could do, there are special chipping fluids that can be used rather than sanding though - sanding is more likely to just remove the paint straight down to the plastic
Use 0,06mm fishing line next time. It's very elastic yet durable, so it's in my opinion the best choice. And of course it's cheap
Thanks for the tip!
He is right it is therapeutic forget about the world for a few hours !
Very true 😊
Nice work! You didn’t put any varnish at the end to seal the soft pastel weathering?
nah, i'm pretty sure the pastel i used is water based and my varnish could have washed it off
I had gotten tired of the decal's falling then I used poly cement to glue one decal and it smeared the decal coulor i thought it was cool for this kit
yeah, polycement can melt the decals. On thick decals, it's not too bad, but on thin ones like these it can kill them
The Hurry for me was first british fighter not so beautyful like the spit but thr really workhorse
😊
Hello!
hi!
I thought it came out great! Did not build it though.
Maybe you'll get one in the future
