I think people don't realize that unless you have flawless skin, like you said, you can either cover everything and look unnatural OR cover less and look less perfect but natural. You can't have both. Great video!
100%! Glad you liked the video ❤
I did.
Just use the colors that are in your skin to get the most natural look.
That's true.
You have to start off with a clear canvas.
Filters must be proving to be great for cosmetic companies by motivating influencers to use large volumes of product without looking bad because of the filter.
It's all about how much they can sell isn't it :(
@@stylerefinement 👍🏼
I don’t get how girls can wear soooo muuuch foundation and then concealer, and then setting powder, and then bronzer, and then highlight. How do you expect that to look natural?! I’ve found that using liquid everything, blush, bronzer, highlight and using your fingers to apply it SPARINGLY is helpful in achieving a more natural look.
I agree! I do use mix some powder products in there like contour and blush, but generally speaking a liquid formula sticks to your skin better and looks more natural :)
@rach1530 I feel the same, my face would crack while I talk with all that makeup on😅
I believe that the companies that send them products to try out encourage them to show that they put a large amount, to encourage more consumption of their products by the customers. Because the influencers use strong lighting, it seems as if the large amount of makeup is "natural". The truth is, in my opinion, it is unfair to the followers who believe in their innocence that this is the required amount, while they fell victim to an aggressive marketing system.
@@TheMeowizersadly o think some of the "influencers" know full well either that the product is subpar or that they are given the product to "sell" .. as they get money from their videos.. maybe I'm jaded but it's their fault too..
@@Kittykat79NY for sure! The influencers are constantly lying and exaggerating. I don't refer to their recommendations at all, they are only good for updates on what's new on the market. I prefer to read reviews on shopping websites or to get an impression myself in the store.
You are a real one for telling people this. A lot of young people truly don't realize this
They’re hard-learned lessons for me over the years 😭 I used to wear so much makeup as well but realized I really don’t need to waste my products & time!!
I use very very very minimal amount of everything on my daily makeup and yeah it looks like you wear nothing on camera but in real life everyone around me says how gorgeous I look. I also don't feel like another person when wearing natural makeup. I'm still me but a little bit well-put version of me lol.
100% ❤
Jenn, you are spot on again. I’m in my forties and the more I age, the less makeup I apply to get that « no makeup makeup » look. If I use too much, it has the opposite effect and makes me look older and caky. I really enjoyed this video.. Thank you for the great content. ❤
Thank you always for the kind comments Linda!! ❤❤❤ I'm happy to hear you liked the video :) I agree - more makeup ages us unnecessarily and we don't need it!
I usually put a little foundation in the palm of my hand and "melt" it with a foundation brush!
OFF-TOPIC: If possible, make a video about who dark lipstick would be suitable for!
I already have this topic listed down! ❤
@@stylerefinement omg yes pleaseee
@@stylerefinement ooo yay!!! So excited for that video!
Definitely not me 😂 i tried a berry lip once and i looked like Bride of Chucky 🤭 i can take bright reds, corals, pinks but not anything too dark
@@minervarose7664 same here 😅
I only wear foundation for special ocassions. In a daily basis is either a bb cream or some concealer. I have acne prone skin and my skin doesn't tolerate wearing foundation daily. My day to day makeup is concealer, translucent powder for my t-zone and undereye, cream and powder blush, brow gel, mascara and a lip oil. Some times I even skip the concealer. Also, I've seen a few tiktoks from people with acne, doing natural makeup looks for people with problematic skin. Not to cover it, but to still feel pretty and show the flaws in our skin, how to let the skin breathe while wearing makeup, since a thick layer of makeup actually makes the acne worse. Most of the tutorials for acne prone skin are to conceal the redness, pimples, etc. It's been nice and refreshing seeing people appreciating their skin for what it is.
I agree - I suffered from severe acne in my teens and early 20s, and makeup only makes it that much worse!
I've managed throughout the years to stop wearing foundation because I seriously couldn't find absolutely any that suits my skin texture and I decided to embrace my skin as it is! Best decision ever, I feel so confident now, even if I have breakouts every month (thanks, period), I only apply a little bit of concealer and I feel more comfortable than when I used tonwear foundation. I do love the way other people look with foundation, but I understood that it's not for me and it's okay!
Yes I've always done the "no makeup" makeup look ,before it was fashionable . I just put a small amount of product on at a time and only use a light, dewy foundation and I like to apply concealer by dabbing it in with my fingers but of course that depends on the type of concealer product being applied. I've always preferred a more natural skin finish ,even on a night out because I just can't stand the feel and look of heavy makeup on my skin. Yes I need the colour correcting under my eyes too. I just use fake tan under my eyes for the orange , then a green colour corrector on the reddish bit on the inner part of my under eyes and then top with a good concealer
Interesting tip on using fake tanner for under eye color correction - love it! ❤
You're lovely Jenn! Your personality and your knowledge make my day each time I see new video. :) it was long due that someone speaks up on reality vs online images, always paired with professional lighting and in most cases filters too. Even if we do make up indoors, using artificial light in our bathroom or elsewhere the impression once we get outside, will be very different. Daylight is cruel. What looks spotless on camera or indoors, may look quite the opposite outside. I agree entirely with you - amount and application are the key for natural appearance of make up outdoors.
Since very few of us have perfect skin, there are few tricks to mimic it without risking that your face looks like cake fest once you step outside. First is Lisa Eldridge method - thin layers and aimed application, when needed, from center of the face (T zone) outwards. Keep it light handed, thin and well blended. Try translucent, BB, CC, tinted serum like textures instead of foundation. Light coverage, never full one - for face, lips, eyes. No harsh lines, soft, buffed application of shadow, blusher, lip stain or gloss, no matte or full coverage anything. Always moisturize and, if needed, use primer that suits your skin's needs. Exfoliate if regularly, make up will look more natural, not patchy and will last longer. Opt for satiny, natural or dewy finish instead of flat matte one. Try to use your fingers for application of foundation like product, instead of blenders and blushes. With warmth of the fingers and thin layering, adding product gradually and blending it, massaging it into the skin - the results will be way more natural. If you have things to cover, do Lisa's pin point technique - tiny brush and concealer only where needed, not heavy foundation all over the face. It will look much better and more natural. Finally, use magnifying mirror for make up application - if your skin looks good enough in magnifying mirror, it'll look perfect in person. XOXO Stay well everyone!
You are such a sweetheart! Thanks so much for all the detailed tips ❤️❤️❤️
That makes so much sense! And is also less wasteful. I also used to shy away from makeup, because colors that look natural on others, just look too dark or rich on me. Turns out I'm a light spring.
The trend (at least Western trend) is always to go bold and dark, but experimenting with soft colors can really be a lot of fun too! Lots of Asian makeup tips use softer colors :)
Love this and thank you! It's all more more more and that's not "no makeup or natural" .. and I've noticed that makeup artists as opposed to influencers have such a light touch/hand which makes such a huge difference ❤
I agree - it's all about controlling the amount that makes a world of difference ❤
I agree Jen!
1:06 this is why I freaking adore your channel. Lol analytical & critical thinking… about fun things. 😊 love this already.
😝😆❤️
Thank you! Too much is actually TOOO MUCH for me! I have had a hard time going into a store and asking for someone "who's job is trying to sell me something" to listen to my needs and actually answer my questions and find the CORRECT COLOR FOR ME. I have given the wrong color of foundation in stores more often than I have managed to color match myself! Grrrrr.... I now put foundation on the back of my hand before blending onto my face with a killer brush. You are really great with your tutorials!
Thank you Andrea! Glad you liked the video :)
Jenn your literally glowing! I love your hair and this makeup style!! 💗💗💗 As for the video it's amazing as always! They're always so insightful!
Thank you so much! XD Someone asked me if I was pregnant LOL but I think it's just the change in my base makeup routine?! And my hair has grown quite a bit as well! I'm glad you liked the video ❤
Love this. I’ve never worn much makeup but I do love my quick daily routine. Only thing I’d add to video is brows. A good, minimal brow really adds a lot to the natural look.
I agree! I know that bushy brows was trending for a while but going too dark with your brows while keeping everything else natural looks very out of place!
Love your long hair and all your amazing knowledge!
Thank you!! Finally grown to a length I like :D ❤
Can you make a video explaining why some people look good with blush and others (like me) do not. And it is not just a question of amount/application. Does it have to do with how much blank "space" you have in your face?
Thanks for the suggestion!! I think it could be one of 2: your middle third, or the color itself is not working for you! Let me see if I can find some concrete examples to show in a video! ☺️❤️
What's your skintone shade and undertone?
I have the same thing! I just don’t think it fits me/I look good with it
Great point about what “natural” looks like IRL vs on camera. Thank you!
You're welcome! ❤
If you want a "no makeup," makeup look, just use skin tint in very little amounts.
Love the tips 💖 I like how minimum makeup looks on me and others
I'm happy you liked the tips ❤ Yes to minimal makeup!!
Thank you for giving some reality❤
I love my Beauty Blender!
Even better is to use the method of foundation application you showed for the left side, THEN do concealer/corrector in the same way. You naturally have less to correct after a very light base layer and you will most likely use even less product. And also applying product in more natural light close to a window :)
This video was so validating - this is all stuff I've learned through trial and error lol. It's all about balancing priorities: even skin tone vs. natural looking texture.
I wonder if you would be open to doing a video on makeup for big ol cheeks? Lol my cheeks have a lot of visual weight on my face so I'm trying to figure out how to balance them out visually with the rest of my features.
I've had some people request blush placements, so I'll see how I can incorporate your request into the topic as well :)
Lovely Jenn, great video😃😍
Thanks so much! 😊 glad you liked it! ❤️
You have helped me really pull together my look with simple adjustment’s, it’s amazing. I am hoping for a video on texture because as you say, despite seeing so many videos, your approach has helped me like no other. A beauty scientist with style. ❤
Thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad you're finding my content helpful ❤
Your channel is sooooo helpful! Thank you so much for your work! 😘😘😘
Yes! They use so much foundation they look like a prepped canvas and then have to add color back in to look like a living, breathing human 😵💫. I love playing with make up and different colors for blush and eye shadow but day to day I lean towards a natural finish to the skin, rarely contour but always a little blush because I love my high cheek bones. I also really hate that everyone seems to contour the same way. What’s the point, our faces are not shaped the same, we don’t all have the same bone structure to emphasize or work with 🤷🏼♀️. Rant over. Maybe
I agree!! There are different contour techniques for different faces which most people don’t seem to realize. The funny thing is that even at makeup school they teach you to do the same for every face!
I think it’s great Jenn! Wonderful video as always.
Thank you so much Brittany! ❤ ❤ ❤
Excellent. I’ll review this video again to refine my makeup application.
I'm glad you found it helpful! :D
You are beautiful! Thank you, Jenn! 🥰

Can I ask what liquid blush was that? Even with your crazy application, the color was very pretty 😊
I'm using the Dew Blush Liquid Cheek Blush by Saie, in color "Spicy"! 😊
Oh My Goth🧛🏻♀️! This thumbnail is pure gold😆. As a MUA who' s working today🙄, I can' t wait to disappear at lunch time and watch it😎.

It' s official: this is gonna be THE video I' ll show to my customers. The half-half face is directly THE BIBLE 🙌🏻 and there are two gem screenshots that I already saved. I often direct them to Lady Eldridge, Alexandra Anele, Rose Makeup World, Robert Welsh or Luxeria but your comparison, your lighting, your close ups and resolution🔝🔝🔝✨.
Meta-tip: for 200% control, tap-tap or just tap once and gently "compress" the brush against the back of your hand doing circle motions. It will assure an even distribution of the powder all over the bristles (could my english be worse?🤦🏻♀️🫣) and also you' ll be able to predict how much it will pigment before the brush touches your face🔮.
I know you can figure out how beyond helpful this video is for us. Many many thanks 🙏🏼🧛🏻♀️🖤
I'm so glad to hear you found it helpful! Thanks for the tip on the brush / powder :) I'm gonna try this next time!!

Thank you so much! I didn’t actually - it’s just growing hehe 😆

Whatever happened to applying foundation with your fingers, btw?
I basically stopped using foundation, after my teenaged acne subsided in the early '00s and have only recently developed an interest in using more than mascara, eyebrow pencil and lipgloss again. Lol. Talk about a natural look. Is there really an advantage to using a beauty blender or brush? I'm not crazy about the idea of them soaking up half the product and then becoming a breeding ground for bacteria. They just seem incredibly unhygienic to me.
And yes...I see girls with very carefully done make up occasionally and it never looks 'natural' in daylight. It's a 'look' of course and to each their own. But it's incredibly hard to achieve an even, flawless look and still having it look like actual skin.
That's why you clean your brushes and blender. Always
@@tabbieedwards4195
But if you do that every time or even just weekly, you would waste a heck of a lot of product.
And you can't tell me, that people actually clean them regularly, anyway. No way. Or wash their hands, before they grab their blender and start using it.
So there would have to be a really good reason to use them, rather than just your clean fingers. What is it? I'm genuinely curious. Back in the day, we would just apply foundation with our fingers and it worked perfectly well.
I think it depends on the formula of the foundation. Some apply well with your fingers, but others just _need_ a beauty blender or brush. I love my beauty blender… I wet it a little bit and it blends the foundation into the skin very softly making it look natural!
As for your concern with bacteria, that’s why washing your beauty blender/brushes is really important. You’ll have to replace your beauty blender every so often too depending on how often you use it! I’ve never had an issue with bacteria and beauty blenders/brushes. Just keep them clean!
So I've been taught to sanitize my brushes for every client, but as for doing my own makeup I obviously don't do that... lol. But I like using a beauty blender or a brush because of the layers I use! For example my undereye color corrector - if I used my fingers to apply foundation on top of it, I'm afraid the color will smudge / come off / move around to different areas of my face where I don't need color correction. Same thing with blush - I find some products when I try using my fingers tend to push my foundation or concealer around and I end up with finger marks! My personal reason for preference towards beauty blender and brushes :) I should really clean them more often though hahahaha....
@@Coochellati
Hm, ok. Guess, I'll have to do some experimenting then!
Super helpful demo! ❤
Glad you liked it! ❤❤❤
I look extra natural for work (loose mineral powder, blush, and eyebrows) and natural for parties (add corrector o liquid base under the powder)
Mostly because I dont know how to contour, always seems I have dirt on the face 😅
The product might be too dark for your skin!! Key is to find one that is only slightly darker than your skin that doesn’t have any warmth in the color!
I think sometimes they look ok in photographs, but in real life it looks pretty nutty. Sometimes a person with beautiful skin cakes on layers and layers to end up pretty much how they started! 😅 They could have just put on the eye makeup and lipstick and been good to go.
I agree! Waste of product and time imo if you have good skin already
For me, the problem is most of the influencers I see is small faced blonde girls. And again most of them have dry skin. But I am a brunette girl with light olive skin also I've got a complexion skin. When I want to do clean girl make up it looks so oily on me and my face look shallow bc it needs color. HOWEVER when I apply to my t-zone a mattfying powder and add some coloring it doesn't look like a clean girl or no make up make up look. What can I do, I really need some helpppppppp
Opting for more natural finishes in the setting powder is one way (like Satin for example)!
@@stylerefinement thank you, I’ll keep that in mind ! ❤️
Search for Jenn's videos about olive skin! They were honestly life changing for me as a fair and cold olive person.
So true, the amount of product in a lot of these tutorials is ridiculous. I tend to go for the more natural look but it's still def not the "no makeup" look in my case due to circumstances... The only foundation that matches my needs and stays on is on the heavier side (EL double wear) and in addition I'm absolutely lazy to clean brushes and beauty blenders. I would only apply a cream product with a tool if I cleaned it after every single use but ain't nobody got time for that, so I just slap the foundation and concealer on with my fingers, at least they're always clean 😂
Haha I'm so terrible with cleaning my brushes and beauty blender... It's disgusting 😂
Good video as usual. Your hair is very pretty. Also you look so cute even before the makeup! ♡♡♡♡♡
Aww thank you for the compliments! Glad you liked the video ❤️

I'm so glad I've found your channel. You're making so much sense (first one I've watched was the one about high and low facial weight) and I really appreciate your knowledge and thoroughness.
May I ask, if I'm seeing correctly, did you put your blush (or is it a bronzer?) also over your nose and quite high, so it's almost "touching" your eyes?
It looks so beautiful, fresh and natural...if that's what you did.🤔
Nevertheless, may I ask how do you decide how high blush should go? If I'm not mistaken, it's called "sun-kissed"/"drunk blush"...?
Thank you for being so informative.
Greetings from Croatia
Welcome to the channel Dora ❤ I do tend to put my blush up a little higher closer to the eyes - I like the "flush-y" look it gives me! I think they call it the "drunk blush" look lol
@@stylerefinement Thank you so much for your answer and everything you're teaching us!
I'm glad I was right😉...regarding the blush.

If you want to look natural don't use makeup, or use the very minimum.
I like makeup but i always build up and start sparecly.
I have a bit of the opposite problem 😅 my makeup looks amazing in person but I have no selfies in my cameraroll because my makeup doesn't even show up on camera and I feel weird looking so plain on a picture
This is not meant to be a humble brag sorry if it comes off that way I just would like some nice selfies 🥲
I have never understood the point of a beauty blender as it always seems like it soaks up most of whatever you’re putting on your face and it just looks gross after use. The very point of a sponge is to absurd liquid, so it’s taking product off your face.
I honestly think that's the whole point - it's to take some product off your face so your skin can absorb less of it, which creates the illusion of a more seamless blending lol.
Ah, the funky smell of a beauty blender 😂.
I agree with you. I use gentle brushes easy to wash and my own fingers, sometimes a Q-tip.
It must be the reason why makeup products last me forever.
@HannahLouisePoston does wonderful videos illustrating how less is more. Love your videos too!

Lol, Jenn, I clicked on this video because it’s you 👍
Teeheeeeeee thank you! 😆❤️
I love how everyone in the comments took this video as a free-for-all to shit on people who wear full coverage makeup.
Full coverage looks GREAT!! It's just not a "minimal" makeup look as some of them claim to be 😅
I loved an intense full coverage makeup in my younger years and I disliked the "half-makeup" like wearing only mascara, orangey blush on unprep skin and some mauve lipgloss (that was the definition of natural back then and believe me, it didn't flatter anyone's beauty)
I think the scope of this video is not being against full makeup per se rather the absurdity of calling a 12-layers full makeup "natural" 😅 and how these videos are often filtered by camera but not suitable for real life if your scope is looking as if you had nothing on.
The other day I realized I use concealer in way too many places, out of denial that I should be using foundation. I think?
Concealer is just a concentrated formula of foundation! So as long as you control the amount of concealer it will have the similar effects to your skin at the end of the day ☺️❤️
