  • I review in 2023 my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D100, that I bought in 2002 on my way on an expedition in Nepal. I was searching for some specific images in Darktable, my editing program, and stumbled upon the images from the Nikon D100. I found that I had to use these images for some purpose, and as I still own this camera, I decided to make a review of this old and now very cheap camera.

This was the camera no oen could afford. It was the dream of many. Love how Nikon's just work when you need them to.

Yes that's so true. And it still gets my affection even today, so many years after 🙂

I have 2 D100s, love the images out of them. I usually shoot at ISO 400, but ISO 800 looks okay too!

Thanks for your comment. I usually shot low ISO, but when the subject or light requires it, I'm like you not afraid to use 400 or 800.

Excellent review of this early DSLR. Enjoyed seeing your beautiful images and hearing about your adventures in Nepall. Interesting to hear your thoughts of the unique quality of the CCD sensors. I have heard others say also the colour science was created at a time that these sensors were trying to replicate film colours.

Thanks for this little review. And for showing your excellent photography, I really enjoy shooting my Nikon D70 which has a similar 6MP ccd sensor.

We should not neglect those older cams.

Definitely agree to that, and there is a movement towards using CCD based older cameras, that are said to provide more analog film like images. Furthermore, it's good for the environment that not all of us want the newest tech.

Спасибо. Да, вы абсолютно правы, я купил его в Непале в 2002 году, и с тех пор он много раз путешествовал.

The Nikon D100 shoots 3,008 x 2,000 pixel images. If your D100 creates 2,000 pixel wide images you don't have it set at maximum resolution.
You spent $2,000 and did not bother to set it to get the best images?

In the video I said my images were 2000 by 3000 pixels (I rounded the 3008 down to 3000), so it's exactly the resolution you mention.
