If nobody has previously metioned this. The basic chassy for this camera was the Nikon N80 film camera. At that time I tagged along with a freelnce photographer friend to shoot a job at a factory in Altoona PA. He was shooting film at the time but he borrowed a D100 from another photographer friend. He ended up using the D100. The results were terrific. Some were used in a publication. Carmine, your channel is one of the most sincere and helpful on You Yube.
I don't know how the algorithm missed you after all these years as I mostly watched travel and photography on RUclips. You, sir, are a true gem! I had already pressed _subscribe_ when you mentioned the built-in flash hot shoe diffuser! Already looking for one online. I never ever shoot with a flash but if I choose to in the future (probably macro) I will take advantage of the built-in flash and not be annoyed with shadows! I am watching this because I just purchased a D100 that should be arriving any day. $30 from MPB with two new batteries and a wall charger!! I think I'm still in the market for a D200 listening to all the advice online but this D100 is going to be a fun basics lesson in DSLR photography after amateur shooting with mirrorless the last few years.
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography honestly, already have! (But thank you!) Just an "enthusiast/amateur" but I started out with Nikon before spending the last decade with Canon and I must say Nikon is fantastic at keeping manuals of discontinued cameras online!

Still have mine from new with a 24 - 120 f3.5-f5.6, I don't think DX lens even existed then we used film camera lenses. Just started using again with 18 - 55 f3.5 - f5.6 GII still a great camera.

I started off my digital photography journey with the Nikon D1X and the D100 then a few years later added a Fuji S3. I still have them, the D1X needs a battery (I hope that's all that's wrong with it), the Fuji S3 still works but the screen on the back doesn't work any more. The D100 seems to be fine. All fine cameras in my opinion. I had prints made up to 30x40 inches back then for clients.
Nikon put the cable release threaded hole in the shutter button, because their customers in 2002 came from film camera users. The 6 dollar pop up flash diffuser is amazing 👏
My recently acquired D100 is still in the hands of FedEx but I've already placed the diffuser (that had never heard of) and a good standard shutter cable (that I didn't really realize any DSLR ever had!) In shopping carts... just waiting to get the camera to make sure that mine had not been modified in any way so I can purchase both! This is going to be a step back in technology to brush up on the basics as I am just a lowly amateur!

Great video, Carmine. I just picked up the 28-85 lens cheap in mint condition. It was harder to get the lens hood which came from China. Iam impressed with the lens because it is compact and lightweight. I have a few mid-range zooms but this pairs nicely with my D3.
Carmine As I keep finding your videos I find myself REALLY liking, enjoying, and love your photography philosophy!! I had a D100 (my first DSLR). Unfortunately my camera strap broke and I replaced it with the D80 (mistake on my part). In June 2023 I became excited because my friend found a D100 with the Nikon 24-85 lens in a thrift store for $4!! Yes $4.00!! I was estastic!! But my joy turned to disappointment. The shutter was on it's last leg. Towards the short ownership period (a week) when taking a photo it sound like a rapid machine gun. Then it quit taking. I figure the shutter died!! The only positive note the lens works on my other DSLRs so it is definitely worth the $4 I paid for the outfit. Keep your videos coming!! Best of luck in your photography journey! Best Duane

Great video, I inherited my dads D100 and I use it alongside with my D500. It’s really a great camera and brilliant for an old DSLR. I’m thinking of buying another this time but to dismantle and turn into full spectrum to look for UFOs, sounds crazy I know but you need to be in this world to get along 😀 Just subbed your channel and look forward to seeing more of your videos so thank you 🤘
Very informative video, just decided soon I will be buying one. China's used camera market is ill. I am so SICK of seeing old junks selling in ridiculous prices. A d100 in the condition like yous with the battery grip and lens is about 900-1200 Chinese currently (little less than 200usd) which I believe you would able to buy a much more useable kit. By the way, I see the Shanghai gp3 film back there, feels good!
