Yvan love you videos. You mentioned the Tornador and Velocity Vac. I have both in the corner of my shop. Just had a gift certificate redeemed tonight. Buick Encore. 26k miles. It was a rolling kennel for two dogs. Open the door and see the acres of hair. Oh s**t. THEN I remembered Yvan touting that tool. It IS a production with compresser going and big vacuum. BUT holy Batman, it worked fantastic! Probably saved me 90 minutes. Before using the Tornador on this crossover, I did blow it out well to start. I had done that many times before but intermittently and usually only the “projects”. You prompted me to have a consistent system. Viewing a lot of very good detailing youtubers, the one missing topic, in general, is EFFICIENT detailing. That is a vital part of our businesses. If I can save 30 minutes or much more I am making more money per hour. Yvan, you are on to something here and I hope you channel thrives. How to be good AND fast.

Thank you Jeff for the great feedback! Next time you get a dog blanket on wheels, here’s another time saver for you. Mix up some liquid fabric softener with water in a 10/1 ratio. Spray liberally on the carpet and allow to dry, it will break the static bond between the carpet and the hair.

I like to start at the top and work down, so vacuuming comes towards the end, glass is last. Yes, sometimes I use compress air on very dirty interiors, but I use shop vac. with small tools. Yes, I like to use ONR and sometimes I use APC mixed 10:1. for very dirty interiors. For leathers, I use a mix of Woolite mixed 1:5, which came from another detailer. I condition all interiors with appropriate conditioners. The biggest problem I see detailers do improperly, spray cleaners directly onto electronic surfaces. I spray cleaner onto microfibers or brushes. As always, I enjoy your videos.

I do fully agree with the in and out method and covering the vehicle in sections. I also agree APC's are not the best and can and do cause more harm than good.
Have to disagree on several things here though. Leather, using a good microfiber scrub mitt works just fine and is easy. Pulling out a DA or rotary on leather with a MF pad could easily lead to burn-through on the protective coating over top of modern leathers. Not at all necessary. The new super micro-fine fiber scrub mitts do wonders super quick. Even just a simple pass with steam being very careful, will soften and emulsify the grime embedded in the grain of the leather.
I love using compressed air but the tornador is indeed a game changer. When used properly with the Velocity Vac attachment you're pulling out and extracting loads more dirt and grime dry than without. Doing so allows for a much easier, cleaner and highly improved results when cleaning in the wet - aka the next step. As you note, no sludge. It also helps stand up all the fibers and make them like new. They are great for blasting out dirt from under the pedal areas, corners, etc. Yes, you can drive the dirt off the fibers and deeper in some areas if over-used but that dirt is then free from the fibers and easily extracted away in the next step. Thus it's my go-to for tight areas. Even just using plain water in the tornador helps accomplish this. We agree there for sure.
The PROPER use of a high temp steam extractor doesn't cause wicking or leave the seats more than just lightly damp. The key is to NOT press the injection area down into the pad of the seat. There's no need. hold it just above the surface. When pre-treating and using a drill brush prior, the surfactants of your solution will do the work. I do vehicles with it and the seats and carpets are completely dry within an hour with nothing more than just a fan. 90% dry even without one. If you're not EXTRACTING the dirt then you're not really cleaning the materials fully, you're just wiping the surfaces. Without an extractor and a pH balancing rinse agent you're also not neutralizing the fibers. It does a far better job than just scrubbing in a foam based cleaner as mentioned with a rotary and a wool pad. If you're going to attempt to "dry clean" then use carbonated water. Lastly, one quick pass after with a tornador black again, stands those fibers back up and helps them dry.

I've done lots of seats with the rotary, and it definitely extracts the dirt. Or at least lifts it up to be easily wiped away with a towel. Handwashing the towel afterwards turns the water a deep brown, like with extraction.
You need to use special chemicals, which don't need to be rinsed out. Optimum Carpet & Fabric Clean & Protect for example, which I use at a 1:6 dilution. A simple spray on the hand shows this is no ordinary alkaline cleaner. You can leave it to dry and it won't cause dried out or irritated skin like a normal cleaner. It leaves the fabric feeling like new when dried.
It doesn't have enough fire power for stains, so a little bit of APC as a pre-treatment for those is advisable.
Try it out, it's a definite gamechanger. You'll be able to clean all 5 seats in about 5-10 minutes to great effect.

Hi Ivan - I have two questions if you don’t mind
    1) when purchasing a steamer for interior details (carpets, upholstery, blowing out cracks & crevices), is having a high PSI machine the most important attribute?
    2) can you share your method for dealing with moderately to heavily soiled carpets? I want to avoid extractors based on your tips but unsure if the multi step chemical processes (like P&S) are necessary.

    • @Detailers-Business-Academy
      @Detailers-Business-Academy  3 года назад +2

1 , I rarely use the high pressure setting ( my steamer has 30, 70, and 100psi settings). Most of our work is accomplished at 30 psi. Attributes I like in a steamer are high heat (330f) and continuous fill).
2 Start with a brush and vac to take away as much dry dirt as possible ( much of the “staining “ will also go away). Spot treat stubborn stains, then steam or extract if required.

Compressed air is like light and MF towels, you can’t really have too much. Depending on what Tornador you use( or other air tools), at a minimum you want your compressor to exceed the CFM rating of your tool. So if you have a tool that requires 6 cfm at 90psi, a compressor that produces a minimum of 8 cfm at 90psi.

With the Tornador it’s the action of the tool, not the chemical, nor the fact that it sprays does the job. It’s rotating and pulsing spray jet provides a scrubbing like action. The paint sprayer moves too much liquid.

Cleaning in the home is a bit different than a car - mostly being a controlled environment. My extractor gets more use than he describes, but I still like to limit the amount of water introduced to seats and carpet.

Since you've given me/us all so much valuable information, let me share some of mine!
    - Weathered white vans; the best way to get them to shine again: Zentool 21e2, pad washer, Optimum Intensive polish 4-5 sprays per ~ 3ft x 3t section. Nothing else cuts like Rupes Blue whool on these, not even close. Except for, maybe, Optimum Hyper wool pads. There is no faster way, period.
    - Using a brush attachment with the handle on the vacuum is a great way too vacuum carpets. It makes it more ergonomic and seemingly more effective. It takes some time to find the right brush attachment. I cut the hairs shorter of mine and cut some openings at the hairs. Now it works perfectly for me.
    - ONR, The Rag Company FTW Towel (damp) and a waffle weave dry, there's no better, more consistent and easier way to clean glass.
    - The Latest and greatest Dyson works great on boot carpets and floor matts! A poor man's matt washer.
That's what I can think of for now!

Normally, will a wipe down with a good polymer-based rinseless wash be able to neutralize those chemicals?
