  • Ed & Dave reunite to begin work on a new project that veers away from their typical build; a static pond with the emphasis firmly on wildlife. It seems that wildlife is already in abundance in this garden however-with a particularly healthy population of grass snakes! Watch on to see how this pond develops…

    Hi Ed, Thought you had got sun stroke for a second when you started hand tamping with the Wacker Plate standing there doing nothing you and Dave certainly take on some hard graft jobs in blazing hot weather ,but its obvious you enjoy {almost} every minute, cant wait for part two.

      Ha Ha! Hi Norman, the wacker plate was supposed to be out of shot, but although a man of many talents, Dave would be the first to admit filming is not his forte!!
      Thanks for watching and commenting as always!

      Hi Paula, thanks for watching and commenting. Fully understand the fear of snakes but I have to say they are wonderful things and such a rarity for me to see such an abundance of grass snakes in one area!
      Good luck with your pond!

    Nice video Ed and valuable information for folks that have a wasted area like these homeowners have. But you are proving that it doesn't have to be an eye sore but can be turned into a useful integration to the aquatics systems. Love it !

    Great vid Ed, really enjoyjng watching younwork. do you ever use clay, instead of a liner? Is one better than another? Cheers

    • @CrystalClearAquatics
      @CrystalClearAquatics  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your kind words Jason and good question! No, i’ve never created a natural clay lined pond, although something i’d like to do one day. The issue with clay for lining is with the addition of livestock the persistent movement from fish can cloud/muddy the water, not ideal if water clarity is important. A specialist pond liner consisting of a sandwich of bentonite clay is available, providing the benefits of a self healing pond liner (which is a benefit of clay) with the advantages of more modern lining materials (such as less/no muddying of the water) but it is a very expensive and heavy product!!

    When would you consider the best time to enlarge a wildlife pond as I would like to to make my pond much larger

    • @CrystalClearAquatics
      @CrystalClearAquatics  8 месяцев назад +1

      Morning Martin, thanks for your comment and my apologies for the slow response- does your pond attract much wildlife-particularly amphibians? If so I’d avoid spring time (from around mid feb through to early summer) as this is when they will be spawning and their young maturing. If however none are present (in a koi pond for example) then spring is fine. Mid summer through to autumn is a good time to work on ponds (and water temperatures make it more pleasant as well!) heading into winter livestock will be settling down and frogs (if you’re lucky enough to have some) preparing to semi hibernate in the water, again best to avoid then, particularly so as working in water in the depths of winter is pretty horrible and undertaking groundwork a messy process.
      Hope this helps and good luck!
      Best,
      Ed

    Hi Ed, another great video. I finished my koi pond about a month ago (I’m currently going through the phase of explaining to my wife the financial decisions I’ve made😂) and would love to know how you got into fish and pond building?

    • @CrystalClearAquatics
      @CrystalClearAquatics  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Craig and good luck with trying to justify this to your other half!! I’d start by explaining the huge importance in creating a rapidly declining habitat for native wildlife and the positive mental effects of unwinding besides a lovely pond at the end of a hard day. Also expensive jewellery could help….!! As for how I got into what I do? I shall save your question for a Q&A video to mark the 10k sub count!!
      Best regards,
      Ed
