The first time I got into wrestling was Smackdown from 2002-04! Then I got bored about the time JBL became champion. Interestingly enough, I found out years later that Paul Heyman was the writer in those years and when he left was when th quality of Smackdown went down. I was 25 years old in 2002, so I didn't grow up with wrestling. I started watching again in 2011. I was super excited when Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came back!

Actually I met Paul when he was 16yrs old...he was shooting pics at MSG.. Vince knew who Paul was from those days already.. Paul started out as teenager doing a news letter called WRESTLING TIMES..I was older already working for Wrestling magazine and gave him pics sometimes for his news letter...most of other photographers hated Paul because he was obnoxious and very forward I but I enjoyed being with him..lot of times he would jump in front of other guys to get photograhs at MSG...Even at young age he actually put together a night at studio 54 and managed to get Ric Flair to appear there...one thing is true and that's that Paul was crazy driver and one time when I was with him he jumped over a divider to get to other side of the road! hahaha...

From the time he was taking pictures ringside as a teenager, all the way up to being paired up with Brock & everything inbetween he really has pretty much has done almost everything when it comes to the buisness. Love him or hate him things would have been alot different without him.

Bruce's impressions of Heyman and Cornette are spot on. Heyman is a first ballad hall of famer for his contributions to the business that is for sure. Happy Heyman is probably one of the best managers in the business. I would put him up there with Bobby Heenan and Sherri Martel. He might be an asshole backstage to the creative staff and to Vince during ECW but he left a mark in the business that is for damn sure.

Paul said the 'white rapper gimmick' would kill John Cena. I think in ECW it might have. It would have run its course and eventually run out of steam.
But WWE's booking philosophy was different. Paul pushed who was most *over* and helped them to get and stay *over*. Vince pushed people *down the audience's throat* even after they became stale
That being said Cena was so good at the gimmick that maybe it wouldn't have gotten stale at all. He was great at that gimmick. In my opinion he only got stale after he stopped rapping. He stopped doing the thing that got him *over*

One of the main takeaways from these podcasts is what kind of personalities these behind the scene guys were and what they brought to the table. Some were like paul heyman and jim cornette, opinionated, belligerent and stand up for what they believe no matter the result, good or bad and some like bruce prichard and kevin dunn, relatively docile, always respecting authority, easy to work with. Everyone of them were excellent at what they did though. They had some similarities too as they all have huge egos and are big mark for themselves, lol. Vince McMahon is a genius in just dealing with these personalities and trying to get the best out of them. You can tell as much as McMahon likes team-players with him, he admires those who challenged, pushed and confronted him.

Boy Conrad talking about pyro has aged piss-poor haha even before Vince step down they were doing record business. Even though people were saying it was bad and complaining constantly they were doing record numbers they were getting Fox and they were doing insane money. Ratings don't matter like they used to. Everyone focuses on ratings because during the Monday night wars that's what everyone cared about and in the 90s they mattered very much because they were going up against each but what people don't realize about today, is you are looking at overnight ratings. Well now people can record the show they want to watch and watch it later. They can use streaming services, they can use RUclips, they can use pirating, they can watch it live, they can watch a replay, the overnight numbers are nothing compared to the actual number of people that are watching. People were saying the same thing about walking dead and wondering how it was still on and while yes the numbers had gone down significantly the overnight numbers could have been five million but the delayed numbers were eight and a half million. one-and-a-half million people might watch raw but another million or two are going to watch on delayed or RUclips or some aspect. I agree that triple h is doing a fantastic job and I'm glad that he took over but when people were bitching about how bad wrestling was in WWE, again it was the vocal minority. People were still coming in in record numbers. They were still making record profits. People complain about the PG but the fact is, if a kid loves wrestling and the parents don't mind it because it's PG, now you have two or three or four people going to the shows whereas some people like myself weren't allowed to watch wrestling when I was a kid. And I know a lot of kids like that. Also the sponsorships that they are getting now are tenfold better than they used to be. Even if Vince took complete control again, WWE isn't going under. They print money. They weren't in danger they weren't even close. I'm definitely glad triple h's running things now it's much better. And Conrad just embarrasses himself he doesn't know shit. Oh they're only going to do 15 million in profits instead of 30. Dude wrestling was down when things are going great too. If you waited another year or two they were making insane profits and Vince was still in charge so your argument is a joke. Don't be butthurt because Paul Heyman went out of business and Vince made billions. No matter what you say Vince did a better job and Vince put out a better product. Also Conrad really needs to step away from these podcasts he is awful. His voice is obnoxious and he is a nobody couch-potato wannabe smartmark who sucks off Dave meltzer and only has the shows because they make the people that we actually want to listen to, money

Calling what Cena did "rapping" is a pretty liberal use of the word.

I know this is 5 years old but Vince did not know what people wanted and did what he wanted and it was awful and I love it now that HHH is in charge now the product is so much better and finely worth watching again..... Finally long term story telling is back not boring or fucking stupid anymore so glad Mr. Macman is gone

Pritchard’s Heyman impersonation is so good it just might be the cure for clinical depression. If not; at the very least SADS. It will never not make me smile and laugh.
