  • Here we have a ribeye steak cooked on a jetboil summit skillet using a jetboil minimo. This is camp stove cooking at its very best. This is only possible because of the jetboil skillet and jetboil minimo stove.
    This is my favourite camping stove meals. Since I purchased the Jetboil Skillet I've been able to expand my camp cooking recipes. I had already been able to do this because of the low simmer function of the Jetboil MiniMo.
    These Jetboil Products are expensive but they are functionally excellent therefore still represent good value for money. I will use the backpacking gear for years and years and continue to expand my camp stove cooking recipes.
    Buy the Jetboil Summit Skillet here from Amazon UK: amzn.to/3gDidCE
    Buy the Jetboil MiniMo here from Amazon UK: amzn.to/2Pmv0y3
    Personally, I think this is the best backpacking skillet on the market. The ceramic non stick coating on the 300 gram backpacking fry pan is second to non.
    The 415 gram jetboil mini mo packs a real punch for it's weight. This all-in-one backpacking stove is full of features and so far I have found it to be very reliable.
    Check out my Jetboil Summit Skillet Review and my Jetboil MiniMo Review, both the unboxing and initial testing.
    Full details of Jetboil MiniMo backpacking stove can be found here:
    www.jetboil.co...
    Jetboil Skillet backpacking skillet details can be found here: www.jetboil.co...
    I will be uploading lots of camp stove cooking recipes during the course of this year so please subscribe if you like your camping cooking recipes. If you have any camping food ideas please let me know.
    If you like camping cooking steak and it's your favourite camping meal there's plenty more of this to come. Let me know your jetboil recipes in the comments below.
    Please feel free to comment below with your favourite jetboil meals.
    Thanks, Andy.
    Please note the amazon link is what everyone sees and pays but I receive a miniscule finders fee when people use the link. It all goes back into backpacking gear!

    Ahhh steak & rice is my go to dinner for the first night on a backpacking trip. Nice done sir.
    I freeze the steak and vacuum seal it. Wrap it in my jacket in my pack & sometimes it’s still even a little frozen in the middle come dinner time.

      Personally, I think the Summit Skillet is excellent. I really look after mine so it’s aged well. It doesn’t hot spot like all the others. There is a small weight disadvantage but the better base is well worth the extra weight. Add a bit more oil than you would do at home, and with the ceramic coating, it’s a good non-stick pan.

    Jetboil makes a skillet with their flex ring technology as well I've been backpacking since Boy Scouts ( I'm 71 now ) and on almost every trip my first dinner on trail is a ribeye and noodles and sauce. Try salt, a good amount of garlic powder and McCormicks Montreal steak seasoning. .All we need is " smellavision ".. and some sipping whiskey1

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  3 года назад

      Jetboil removed the flux ring for this new version of their skillet. Nice to know there's someone else out there that loves Ribeye as much as me! I'll see if I can get hold of that steak seasoning too.

    I watched 3 of your videos and you changed my life forever! Amazing. I was actually looking for reviews of backpacking skillets, found your reviews and cooking, and its a no brainer. Im going to get the Jetboil skillet. Even the included spatula is perfect. I am using Primus Lite XL integrated stove but it can be used with any pots/pans too. Cooking steak up in the mountains covered in waist deep snow? Oh yes. You have a subscriber here. Thanks for what you do 👍👌

I also buy the Taylor’s coffee bags to use in the jet boil which eliminates the need of the press but I still think it’s great to have as the coffee bags are not widely available if your camping places with limited shops etc

    I have a minimo as well in Australia they are amazing I agree,.
    However your reference to how good the steak is cooked or any other food for that matter is not the minimo. It's your knowledge and cooking ability it's that simple.
    The device only supplies the heat mate. Steaks cooked over charcoal and at at a much higher heat to sear each side before turning it down will be much better than a minimo jetboil.
    My opinion there just another gas cooker which are great for boiling quick water , yes you can cook on them as well but the heat is not evenly distributed that well.
    I absolutely love my minimo but when it's steak time I'm taking my charcoal portable grill out.
    Great vid mate . Good job.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  3 года назад

      I don’t doubt this isn’t the best way to cook steak. However, in the UK it’s frowned upon to start open fires when wild camping in the hills and mountains so cooking by charcoal is a big no no. Cooking by gas is probably the most common way to cook wild camping over here and this set up is probably the best way to cook steak! 🥩

    I have a tip for all get boil uses. Putting the pot on the burner and taking it off is a pain and dangerous, a person can easily get burnt. Look on the burner and you will see two little lugs inside the top ring. Grind them off. Then the pot is a dream to use.

    • @BackpackingUK

    Is there no way to pack the adapter into the jetboil?? It seems to be too small to close the lid.
    If I pack a sm. fuel canister, with the burner, there is no way to fit the adapter inside and close the lid. This is whats bugging me as it seems like a design flaw.

    Would love to see a vid on inexpensive boil in bag options. All I can find is rice and the other pouches say microwave or pour out in to pan (messy). Can the microwaveable ones be boiled in a bag even though it says empty? Can’t see it melting if it is microwave proof 🤔 I mean supermarket options not wayfair etc

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  3 года назад +1

      @@BackpackingUK thanks. I think the wayfarer etc are Mylar bags whereas the microwave ones are plastic without the foil but they are designed to get super hot so I think I will try boiling them with a small vent slit to avoid explosion

    • @BackpackingUK

      I usually only cook steak when staying away for one night and sometimes two nights if I've got a small cool bag. It really depends on the weather, I'm really careful what I take in the middle of summer. However, the rest of the year you have much more choice and in winter you can take pretty much anything you like.

    Does it really matter that you are using Jet boil merch?- I use an OEX and it does the same job at a 3rd of the price. Are you being sponsored by them?

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  3 года назад +4

      Yes, it does matter. My OEX Frysta Skillet is no where near as good as the Jetboil Summit Skillet. To say they do the same job is wrong. The Summit Skillet is a completely different design with a thick base and a ceramic non-stick coating. My OEX Frysta hotspots and then sticks everything to the middle of the pan. In this instance you get what you pay for. However, I have lots of other cheap gear that does almost the same job as my more expensive gear and I own loads of OEX gear too. Sometimes it's trial and error to find the best kit but that's what I try and show with my channel. P.S I wish I was sponsored by Jetboil, it'd save me a fortune!

    • @BackpackingUK

      I think 12 minutes, but if you’re worried about gas consumption, buy 2 minute microwave rice like Tilda or Uncle Bens as they’ll take much less time. The only drawback is they are bigger and they weigh more.
