- Columbia is the capital of the U.S. state of South Carolina. With a population of 136,632 as of the 2020 U.S. Census, it is the second-largest city in South Carolina.[4][5] The city serves as the county seat of Richland County, and a portion of the city extends into neighboring Lexington County. It is the center of the Columbia metropolitan statistical area, which had a population of 829,470 and is the 72nd-largest metropolitan statistical area in the nation.[6] The name Columbia is a poetic term used for the United States, derived from the name of Christopher Columbus, who explored for the Spanish Crown. As per: Wikipedia
I have lived in Columbia SC since 1958. Have traveled all over and I can tell you that Columbia is as good as any. You need a tour guide. You come into the city and just happened to turn 1 or 2 streets off and get in side roads to make your opinion. You didn't even see the city.
Agree. Seem to have a hidden agenda. Just pull in and put everything down?
He's right 👍!!! It SUCKS here. But it's pretty obvious that you haven't lived ANYWHERE else!!! (Since you've lived here since 1958) So you have ZERO perspectives on other areas! SMH.
Retired now but traveled all over when I was working for 41 years. Seems like a person can live ok in most places if they have enough money and good health. Seems like Columbia is as good as any and better than many.
@@MichaelMcMillan-w1t46 years old I’ve lived all over the place .. Columbia is by far not the worst ..
I'm from Columbia and it isn't miserable. You make it that way if you're boring. Columbia is huge, exciting and a lot of places to go for fun. If you don't like Columbia, you should leave and go back where you're from. You have to be from Columbia to love it.
i travel all over USA, columbia is bottom 10%
thats is so true!
I'm from Columbia, SC. Graduated from Eau Claire High School. Soon after I moved to Atlanta, and never looked back. COLUMBIA IS VERY BORING.
I've moved to many cities as a military brat including Columbia, and the city was boring.
Columbia is bland and boring. However if you live in a busy place like New York City, it can be a nice weekend vacation during the winter months for a change of pace…If you only just want to mellow out for a little bit so I can see that appeal
Born and raised here. Several interstates, pick one, take it and never come back.
😂😂😂
Y’all in Cayce…..like 🙄 Y’all sound ignorant. Oh, and SC isn’t the most dangerous state in America….every state has these issues. I hate my state, but damn y’all just went to a shabby area for views
Facts
Nothing they are saying is accurate lol
You didn’t got to any of the best places. You just drove through a bad route on a day when most downtowns are sleeping the week between Christmas and New Year. You didn’t go to USC campus or see the football stadium. You didn’t go see any baseball stadium in a city where they have a top five collage baseball stadium in the nation and at one point the best new minor league ballpark. You don’t know about Soda City Market or how neat and rare it is to have such a market in downtown every Saturday and it have so much participation. Once you crossed Gervais Street bridge and stayed straight and the video kept going I knew you weren’t Interested in capturing the city. It’s not an award winning city but it’s much better than you showed here. Not bad for an old city that was completely burned to the ground in 1865 losing much of its unique and historic architecture many other old cities save, restore, and tout.
Its still Columbus man

what is there to like about SC as an international traveler?
I went away for 26 years and so happy to be back! Great people and lower cost of living. Room for improvement but moving up !
Sorry but Columbia SC does not look like Philly in any way lol. You are just in the government building area and basing your judgements on the architecture.
Thank you
I disagree. It looks like parts of North Philly and Kensington. Sad and depressing. After I was finished with school there I ran back home to NYC. Philly is truly one of the most boring NE cities I've ever been to -NYE was dry and that Mutter parade is a joke.
@@africanbeauty7 You mean the Mummers parade lol. I lived in SC back in 1997_98. Not all of Philly is bad. I wouldn't wonder down Kensington Avenue either. I actually was in Philly last October.

You ain’t traveled more than me
Now I’m visiting Columbia, and I was telling myself “man I feel depression.” Then I found your vid. I believe the problem is that you don’t see many ppl walking and running. Yes buildings and cars, but few real ppl. At 4pm, I went to the most famous places (Riverside park; very few people) and (Finlay park; not a single human being). This is the very opposite when you visit cities like Atlanta, or even small towns like Gainesville in Florida (vivid cities, parks are full of people, kids and youth everywhere)
I was in Naples and Fort Myers today.. full of life.
Gainesville is ass 😂
Columbia's crime is real deal hoss. What you are suggesting is very dangerous to do there.
You won't find many people down town Columbia. Most of them are at the lake where they live and no ghetto allowed.
@@jbrianhortonNo it's not. It's mostly domestic violence. Outside of that, there's (Allegedly) gang violence. But it's a VERY safe city.
You're driving to the city from the airport through Cayce???? Did you hit Harbison? Lake Carolina? Greenview? Shandon? St. Andrews? The University of SC? The Waverly District? Benedict College area? Columbia College area? How about the parks: Sesqui? Finlay? The Riverfront? The Congaree? Elmwood? The Vista? Five Points? Go home.
Thank you for sharing. The places you went to actually aren't that bad. There are some very nice spots in Columbia, SC. I like the real life drive through in order to get an actual "feel" of the area.
Probably one of the most well armed cities in America. FN USA produces a ton of guns in Columbia!
I lived in Colombia in 1981 man I can't believe it this was such a beautiful place one of the places I loved living there . I know if you got in the wrong neighborhood you could be in trouble but it's been that way everywhere since when. But I can't believe this
It’s actually still a great city. If you loved it in ‘81 you’ll love it even more now.
Well I sure didn't think so every city has it's a bad place in them. I loved it there . REALLY good people and clean just a great place. Thank you well I was going to pick another place to visit this summer but I have to see Columbia one more time. Thank you for the information
If you think Columbia is miserable then go to red bank . Hands down the worst I’ve ever seen and lived at . Red bank is dangerous though . You gotta have the street mentality to live in both places .
Looks suburb??
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS it’s just really trailer park life and then you got methheads every where . Then you got the violent people and then the people that really don’t play . It’s just a rough life out there . I live in Cayce .
The beginning of your video is not Columbia city-limits, that's the City of Cayce in Lexington County.
We moved here from PA in 1997. Only lived there a year and then made our way to Florida. It is pretty depressing there and it is in the heart of the bible belt. They also are very proud of their southern heritage. Lake Murray is nice though. Oh and there was this awesome barbecue place called Piggy Park. Oh damn you just mentioned it. Too cool. It is good barbecue, mustard based sauce.
They “claim” to be christians.
They seem to be very racist there too.
@@gretchenwenrich1011 I grew yp there. It more than seems to be racist. Columbia is the real deal, the hate there is palpable. It burns your tongue going down but much worse than that it infects your heart and ruins everything it touches. And it touches everything, school, the work place, church, entertainment, politics obviously everyfuckingthing. Columbia is pretty neat place to visit if you're into sports or history but raising kids there is a no go.

Columbia is a good place to retire . I heard some of the surrounding neighborhoods such as irmo are very nice.

All the allen and benedict students was always coming back and forth. I met some good folk in Cola over the years working at various places Bryan on farrow rd, richland county on decker. I miss those WINGS at Charlie wings on Decker in 2020. Also, Louisiana is the worst state on a crime capita. Also, that car dealership you passed with the trucks out front sells luxury cars like Lamborghinis and stuff. @@robleeg Nice! Chase those dreams in Atlanta, and may they all come true in 2022! God bless you brother!
Facts. Most people who do move to Columbia or stay here end up going to Charlotte or Atlanta for shopping or nightlife. I lived in Columbia most of my life, and it is a sprawl meaning if you want to shop at any of the bigger chain stores you have to go to either Harbison area or either out Northeast/Killian by mostly the interstate. What the city likes to do is when they build up subdivisions, they take most of the stores with them out to the new areas and leave pockets of vacant stores and buildings within the inner parts of the city. It is a continuous cycle I have noticed. Now I will give them credit on Forest Acres it has some niche stores and nicer grocery stores closer to the city limits. Greenville has even outgrown Columbia. I wouldn't recommend Columbia to anyone unless they wanted a more affordable cost of living depending on the where they are moving from in the country. Other than that I suggest you bypass.
I enjoyed my stay there in my early 30s around 2010. Used to stay off Broad River and go to Luckys
You literally drove through the worst part of Columbia
Right through the worst part of time at 10 am on a Monday smh 😂 like wtf were they expecting to see 🤷🏿♂️😂
Do you advise me, as an international student, to study in this state and also work and reside?
City of dreams ❤️❤️❤️, it’s not look like what you have seen,,,,,
The only reason I watched this as long as I did was to see the video. Your commentary was biased and unappealing to say the least. I don’t believe Columbia is any worse than other similar sized Southern cities that aren’t at the beach or in the mountains. Maybe you should avoid coming here in the future!
Ive avoided going there in the past too 😅
I’d love to forward this video to the city officials or whoever is in charge of updating this area. They need to hear this truth..😆😆
There is nothing in the video that any Columbian needs to know. Everyone knows nobody wants to do anything about it because that takes investment and that cost money. The Republican party tells me at every opportunity that taxes are theft. Why would I want to let them steal from me just to make the future better for someone else. I want it NOW, fuck that other noise. Lol
The officials will surely find the “Why are there even streetlights. “ very helpful.

Down town Columbia South Carolina is a college town. Most people that run this place do not live in the city. Probably half of the city is ghetto due to white flight in the 70's. The money lives in Lexington , Irmo and Chapin, west and northwest of the city. West of Columbia about ten miles is one of the largest lake in the country.
