I've lived in Columbia for almost 27 years now, its so cool seeing & hearing what people from out-of-town think about Columbia. Gives me a new perspective. So cool. I don't ever see Cola from the sky, the drone shot was awesome.
Yes the drone shot was cool. I was born there and it may be different. I'd say it's alot better than most places just like South Carolina as a whole. Oh by the way we don't really care who likes it or not. Those who don't then you have the right to stay away. No offence now that's just our opinion. Good day.
Same! I've lived in Lexington and worked in Columbia all my life and I love hearing people get excited about visiting and what we have here .. sometimes you get in the day to day and don't appreciate what you have outside your door!
Outstanding. I dearly miss Columbia. Served there in military for a time, my uncle later opened a large business there employing many. Then my oldest son and then one of his daughters graduated from the University of South Carolina there in Columbia. I have family buried in a church yard there. Oh how I miss Columbia.
Beautiful footage of the Met/Soda city/the capital/Columbia ... Downtown(Main Street) and historical district will always make you feel like the census are skewed.. however, go across the tracks(as old folks would say). You will then understand why the census are they way they are. Most students, when they graduate, will remain in Columbia. I was one of those students, I lived there for years off of North Main. It's always been a beautiful city to me, even in some of the dilapidated areas. It's just something about Columbia. Columbia College is there, they just became a coed college like 2 maybe 3 yrs ago. It was originally a private all girls school. Also, two well-known HBCUs, Allen University and Beniedict. Both colleges were founded in 1870..Allen University was originally named Payne Institute, after its founder, Daniel Alexander Payne. He was an Apostle of black education here in the U.S. Payne Institute was later renamed Allen University in honor of Bishop Richard Allen, founder of the AME Church. Benedict College was founded by Bathsheba A. Benedict, also in 1870, on land of a former 110-acre plantation. Benedict was originally a school for teachers. However, the first classes were taught at an elementary school level bc former enslaved had been prohibited to read and write. Eventually, Benidict was able to insituite its original plan, which was theology, to train and educate the teacher and preacher. Now, both colleges have a broad curriculum. There is so much history here. I could ramble forever.... It's funny that you wanted to get into the church. It's locked! Um yeah🤣🤣 you can only do church tours in Downtown Charleston. And your correct SC was the first to secede, bc Lincoln was newly elected and wanted to abolish slavery, and SC wasn't too ecstatic 'bout that.
I was stationed at Fort Jackson for 4 months for schooling and saw a little bit of Columbia. Some good, some bad. Thanks for going in deeper, I'm seeing and learning way more through your eyes. You're an amazing tour guide and I love the drone shots!!
Ft. Jackson don't need all that land in these days...They should move to Sumter close to Shaw AFB...They need to build a highway, I20 to 262 Leesburg rd...And build some buildings to open this state up or I wish they'll put a NFL team w all that land

Just so much more than can be covered in a single video, so you'll have to come back.
It's the biggest blackwater on the Eastern seaboard and has many Cyprus trees and knees showing. Depending on the weather some of the walks are hard to get through from flooding and of course be careful because it's full of gators.
It's so weird seeing you drive around where I live on Saturdays. Main Street gets completely shut down and turned into an open air market called soda City market. It's really neat!
The picture in the State House was a depiction of Francis Marion “The Swamp Fox” fighting the British. The construction of the capital building began before the civil war and was shot upon by the union during their campaign, my dad always laughed about how the union ran when they couldn’t knock it down with cannon fire or burn it down. The wooden capital building which stood beside this building was burned completely and destroyed leaving heat marks/stains on the granite. Did y'all perchance see the "Tunnel Vision" Painting on the wall across the parking lot? That was another Blue Sky piece. Supposedly inspired by the old road runner cartoons ( painting a tunnel on a wall ). At night the sun in the sunset visible through the tunnel glows a soft orange. Years ago before it faded it was quite convincing, people have seen birds attempt to fly into it, and I've even heard of two instances of drunks plowing into " The tunnel" apparently it happened enough for them to put a guard rail in front of it. Anyway, fun video. I'm glad you had a good time in our town.

South Carolina general assembly is in session from January through May. Come back to visit outside those months and you’ll get a better experience. One of the coolest things about the state house that you missed is the stars (added 1929) that are on the river side of the building showing where it was hit with canon fire by the Union army. Looks awesome!! Also, Cola was not 100% burned. Estimate is only two-thirds to maybe half was burned. Please come back to visit soon!!
Last time i was there was in 1978. I was stationed 30 miles down the road at Shaw AFB outside of Sumter. It has sure changed downtown. The state house is the only place I recognize.
Traveler's Hint: Call the church offices for permission to tour sanctuaries.😊 Yes, they burned churches for revenge. 😡The Washington Street Methodist church, across from First Pres you were by, was burned.😡 The First Baptist Church where the convention to secede was held was the target. (Articles were signed in Charleston.) When they came to burn First Baptist, a Union Soldier asked a First Baptist member on the street where the church was. Legend has it, he was directed to the Methodist church to save his own. The original sanctuary still stands.🙏🏼 I was baptized there and my mother's,( who used to give State House tours) funeral was held there. Her death was sudden and she was a young 68. Everybody knew her from the State govt. and Pop's business. So, it was really full. I thought that was so nice. It was comforting.🙌🏼 Nice video of the Capital city. The Victorian home you admired is Manns-Simons house and is on the historic register and a popular African American cultural site. They didn't burn all the big homes down, but came pretty close. Free blacks and widows were ravaged and raped by Union forces with Sherman's knowledge and Grant's apathy - all over the vanquished South.😢 * Things tour guides aren't allowed to discuss.🤐 My mother was given a revised Guide's book for her educational tours.🤫 The Robert E. Lee monument in front of the State House has been vandalized and its battle flag removed by Governor/ U.S. Ambassador to U.N. Nikki Haley, following the horrific Mother Emmanuel racist's killings in Charleston. Bitter and Sweet, Shame and Glory. Every State has its share. South Carolina suffered the most war casualties and hosted the most conflicts of the Revolutionary War🇺🇲 for Colonial freedom from Britain. Y'all come back now, ya hear?🤠🌴🌙
You should've shown Blue Sky's mural on the side of a building. It is called Tunnel Vision and it has caused some people to drive into it at night... 😂
Hi, We retired to Saint George, SC. We lived just outside of town for 10 years. Nighty (90%) of the people are great. Loved it but had to move to CT. to take care of family members 😢. 🙏. Safe travel. Leo
Good video! Thanks for showing off my new home town. Went to college here, then moved back seven years ago. I lived two blocks north of the state house and loved living downtown. You missed the best view from atop the 17th floor of the Sheraton at the Rooftop Lounge.
I enjoyed your most recent episode on Columbia South Carolina, but when you mentioned that you were heading to North Carolina I was shocked that you are totally missing out on downtown Greenville, South Carolina. The historic downtown area has been totally revitalized but they have kept a lot of the character including brick streets and the river that runs through, it's all so beautiful. There are gardens and fountains throughout. if it's not too late, you should backtrack and do that one. I assure you, you and the wife both will love it. If it's still there, have dinner at Smoke on the Water.
We would have, in my opinion, been better served as a nation if the celebrated son had remained more loyal to his humble Presbyterian roots. Oh well! That's long ago.
Nice video, thank you! No chastisement here but, The Church is the members who meet in the Church building! In my youth, homes and Church building doors were unlocked. Beginning in the 1960's, vandalism and theft became a problem so, doors were locked and it has remained that way. My dad lived in the depression. No one had anything to steal. He lived in the Woods of Oregon and worked in lumber. In WW2 he re-enlisted USN for the duration. Post depression and WW2, people learned how to Love their Neighbor. Prosperity seems to have the opposite effect on some! Ron PTL USA

When they came to burn First Baptist, a Union Soldier asked a First Baptist member on the street where the church was. Legend has it, he was directed to the Methodist church to save his own. The original sanctuary still stands.🙏🏼
I was baptized there and my mother's,( who used to give State House tours) funeral was held there.
Her death was sudden and she was a young 68.
Everybody knew her from the State govt. and Pop's business. So, it was really full. I thought that was so nice. It was comforting.🙌🏼
Nice video of the Capital city.
The Victorian home you admired is Manns-Simons house and is on the historic register and a popular African American cultural site.
They didn't burn all the big homes down, but came pretty close.
Free blacks and widows were ravaged and raped by Union forces with Sherman's knowledge and Grant's apathy - all over the vanquished South.😢
* Things tour guides aren't allowed to discuss.🤐
My mother was given a revised Guide's book for her educational tours.🤫
The Robert E.
Haven't watched the video yet but I just love the intro with the drone and music in the background!
Only been subbed for a couple of weeks but has quickly become one of my favorite channels and I look forward to catching new videos after work.
Awesome, thank you! 👍😀
There are stars on the Capitol marking where Union cannonballs hit it. They fired from the Congaree River 😩
It's unclear to what precisely you're referring by the word "Capitol." Wasn't the State House built post-Civil War?
I enjoyed the video, such a beautiful capital building, or state house.
You should've shown Blue Sky's mural on the side of a building. It is called Tunnel Vision and it has caused some people to drive into it at night... 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I'm in Anderson SC
I've been to Columbia a handful of times
But never got a good chance to explore
Thanks for this 👍
You missed the Columbia Art Museum, it is probably one of the best art museums in the South for a city this size.
Food looks wonderful. Yummmm.🙂
I'm amazed you're walking along the main street of a big city and there are no pedestrians. In Europe everyone is walking around.
both Carolinas are beautiful, don't forget GA and TN; Southeast is very attractive at the moment!
We’re going there in late spring.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip We're waiting for you.
The stadium was built on the fairgrounds. Every year during the fair, the Cocks have a home game. It's quite an event.
SUNDAY GREETINGS SPODA.😃👍🙏❤
Hello, Johnny!
I'm glad someone took time to show some good parts of Columbia ,but being the capital it should have more interesting things to see.
Woodrow Wilson's dad moved from 1st Presbyterian Augusta to 1st Presbyterian Columbia.
We would have, in my opinion, been better served as a nation if the celebrated son had remained more loyal to his humble Presbyterian roots. Oh well! That's long ago.
Thanks! thanks for the 2 mac book insight. Bet it takes alot of work. We appreciate it!
I really enjoy when you dine what difference in food that is known for the areas 😎💕
Ron PTL USA
Thanks for sharing. Very informative.
Gamecocks were named for General Thomas Sumter. His nickname was The Gamecock.
That's right. I had a video planned for Sumter and I was going to talk about him but it rained like hell that day. Gonna have to come back.
Visit Hardeeville, Ridgeland Bluffton, Beaufort, and Hilton Head SC. All have great history
My husband lived in Columbia for awhile. I've never been there. I'd have to check out.
Columbia resident here, loved the video! Glad you enjoyed our city!!
It's a great town.
If your coming north, come visit Salisbury NC! It’s an awesome city with tons of history!
Thanks for sharing a pretty southern city. Its been a while but we used to go to Columbia regularly, always liked it. Wade Hampton was a should-be-better-known SC leader. Stay safe and away from the interstates (mostly).
Nice shot of the city.
One of my first cousins worked in Columbia SC and lived in Sumter SC before her and husband move to Texas fifteen years ago.
